When we walked off the field we felt we were a bit short," said Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Faf du Plessis after his team lost to Rajasthan Royals by seven wickets in Qualifier 2 of the Indian Premier League 2022 on Friday.

"It was pretty challenging with the new ball, it moved around a bit. But we got through the first six without much damage. It felt like Test cricket in that first session. More bounce really. Still we felt 180 was par.

"I am really proud otherwise. It has been a great season for RCB. My first season to see how special the crowds have been for us. Harshal [Patel], DK [Dinesh Karthik], all the guys who are picked for India deserve it. I stand proud of the team even though we were not at our best tonight and against a very strong Rajasthan Royals side,", he added.

Seeing the brighter side of things, the skipper expressed optimism about the future and lauded the domestic talent in the marquee league. "There is some really nice young talent in our squad, and you have a three-year plan. That's what you look to maximise. You can see how good Rajat [Patidar] has been after he came in. A great future of Indian cricket. You can always pick three Indian teams after the IPL with the amount of young talent coming through."

"Our fans have been the most obvious thing. You go to any game anywhere and you have RCB-RCB chanted. The guys were emotional when we heard the RCB chants even when playing Mumbai. So, well done to our fans and thank you very much," du Plessis said, expressing gratitude to the franchise's ardent fanbase.

He is right. We can pick up three teams and all three can compete well against each other and be among the top 10 teams in the world. One team can be 3rd best, another can be 6th best and 3rd one will be 8th best.

Obviously the format we are talking is T20s.

You can pick 3 national teams from all franchise tournaments around the world.

Doesn't mean they will all be world beaters.

India has indeed a very good team in T20s (and in ODI/Tests for that matter) but making these claims without substantiation when majority of new talent hasn't played a single game for their country just tells me Faf wants to stay RCB captain next season.

As usual salty fans are going to be salty.

Without taking Faf's words literally I think what he means is we have the kind of bench strength now that is the envy of the world.

He didn't claim India's young talents would walk in and be world beaters or world champions.

Be it Batsmen, ARs (majorly spin) and Pacers - This IPL has established some new names and also thrown up some fringes who can be developed further.

Now it is time for these players to work on their games in domestic cricket. IPL can give them the spotlight but can't help them sustain their popularity if they don't keep up their game top level.

People need to understand that organizing the best cricket league in the world DOES NOT equate to being the best team in the world!

IPL is by far the best league in the world not only because the best players in the world are available to play (apart from few Pakistani players of course) but also the best coaches in the world (Ponting, Sangakkara, Mahela, etc) that are teaching all these young Indian cricketers how to approach the game and how to improve their skills. There is a lot of money being poured into this league (because it generates a lot and will continue to grow) and that attracts the best talent and that talent will prioritize this league as well for obvious reasons.

Pakistan did great in the WT20 in Dubai and that means we have a lot of great talent that clicked at the right time in the right conditions, but that does not mean we have proven to the world that PSL is better than IPL. PSL is doing great and a lot better than other in the world, but there is still a HUGE gulf between IPL and rest of the leagues.

If you cant see that or digest it, you are just a hater bro.

You can pick 3 but you still can’t explain 152-0

still wont compare with 0-12 consecutive....Stuff of legends record in a particular southern hemispehere country which since it toured your back yard now has dropped out of the superemly convenient 'Big 3' coat hanger on which you can hang everything wrong

After any league finishes you can pick 2-3 teams because there are many domestic players on show. Doesn't mean they are world class.

Really now such fans seems to running out of excuses. Despite all the IPL talent hype India T20 WC cabinet is still empty after 15 damn years after start of this circus.

[MENTION=139595]Ab Fan[/MENTION] comes up with some really weird logics here. :inti

We are getting used to statements like these from players now. First it was Pandya and now its Faf. :inti

I can't agree with Faf.

Last World T20 has shown doing good in IPL doesn't mean you can do the same in international cricket. One example would be Varun Chakrabarty.

As much as whatever people like to say, fact is that the World T20 result was highly influenced by which team was winning the toss. The pitch did got easier in second inning and dew played a part too. Most of the games were won by teams chasing second. Had India won the toss vs Pakistan or New Zealand, we would have won those games too.

Nevertheless, Indian team shouldn't feel let down at all by losing a couple of T20 league matches because as overall cricket team, we have done extremely well. In Test Cricket, we best everyone at home and we have also beaten Australia in Australia twice, who are comfortably the second best team of this generation. Alongwith that, we are also leading 2-1 in England with only one test left to go so at worst we will draw the series but can win also. All in all, winning test series in Australia and drawing/winning (whatever be outcome) in England and winning everything at home is enough to compensate for those small T20 league matches which were highly influenced by the outcome of toss.

The very fact that now overseas players are also saying that you can make three Indian teams based on IPL tells us that there is enough quality coming in Indian team in T20s too and the competition is extremely high as well. This is coming from a highly rated overseas player now which counts big.

Harris Rauf, Shadab and Shaheen did a splendid job with the ball

Pak would have got 152-0 with Ahmad Shahzad and Abdul Wahid Bangalzai that day

There is not a single batsman in current Pak squad who could have chased that down if Rizwan wasn't there.

I would rather use a 2 month IPL to judge a player's ability rather than 2-3 isolated WC games. If they fail repeatedly in international Cricket, then sure, boot them out. But statements such as "last WC showed they are useless" is a very short-sighted take on a player's abilities.
