Lahore, 13 December 2021: The Pakistan Cricket Board today announced that, following a robust recruitment process, it has appointed Faisal Hasnain as its new Chief Executive. He will formally assume charge in January 2022.

Faisal is a UK qualified Chartered Accountant and has had a professional career of over 35 years in high-profile finance and sports administration roles with some of the world’s leading blue chip organisations. This includes his role in Monaco and Dubai as the Chief Financial Officer of the International Cricket Council (ICC) and as the Managing Director of Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC).

As the ICC’s Chief Financial Officer, Faisal managed an overall financial portfolio of around $3billion and was also involved in the sale of the ICC’s commercial rights for the 2007-2015 and the 2016-2023 commercial cycles. With Zimbabwe Cricket, he was instrumental in the refinancing of their commercial debts, arriving at the financial arrangements between ZC and the ICC, securing ZC’s funding and status within the ICC and securing hosting rights for the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2018 – Zimbabwe’s first global event in 15 years.

PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja: “I am delighted to confirm the appointment of Faisal Hasnain as the PCB’s Chief Executive and welcome him to Pakistan cricket family.

“Faisal is a familiar figure in world cricket and is highly regarded, respected and trusted for his excellence in corporate governance, financial management and commercial acumen. With the plans I have for the PCB, Faisal will be a perfect fit as he can utilise his vast experience and knowledge to help us achieve our commercial and financial objectives of making Pakistan cricket bigger and stronger.”

Faisal Hasnain: “I feel honoured and privileged to have been awarded with this once in a lifetime opportunity to serve Pakistan cricket and thank the PCB Chairman and the Board of Governors for having the confidence in my capabilities.

“I am fully committed to playing my part in delivering the PCB Chairman’s vision for Pakistan cricket, fulfilling the expectations and dreams of millions of passionate Pakistan cricket fans and strengthening the relationships with our existing commercial partners, the ICC and other Cricket Boards and developing new partnerships as we move forward.

“These are highly exciting times in Pakistan cricket and I look forward to working very closely with my colleagues at the PCB so that we can collectively further enhance the image, reputation and profile of this great institution.”

Well his experience looks like a very good hire but have heard bad things about him when he was the MD of ZC but wat he did could be the right way to handle as Zimbabwe was renowned for corruption at a very high level.

Some history:

FAISAL Hasnain, the Pakistani-born managing director of Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC), has officially resigned with immediate, citing the national cricket team’s failure to qualify for the 2019 ICC World Cup as his main reason.

The former International Cricket Council (ICC) chief finance officer was appointed by ZC last May, taking over from Wilfred Mukondiwa but has not set foot in the country for five months.

Although he was credited with ZC’s improved financial situation, Zimbabwe failed to qualify for the next year’s global showpiece to be held in England and Wales in what was a major blow to his goal of turning around the country’s cricketing fortunes around.

“The main reason for my resignation is the non-qualification by ZC for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019,” Hasnain said in a statement released by Zimbabwe Cricket.

I hope he doesn't do same mistakes like Wasim Khan. I think he is more skilled than him.

Faisal Hasnain did his best in an impossible job at Zimbabwe where he had a shoestring budget to work with.

During his time he reduced ZCB's debts, but was one of the many casualties after the failure in the 2018 World Cup Qualifiers. His extensive corporate/ICC background should serve him well.

Seems to have a good amount of sports administration experience. Hadn't heard of him until today but wish him all the best.

So another foreign qualified is being bought in. If rameez waja was so against wasim khan than why this appoitment now.

Lets see how media treats this guy

People do UK chartered accountancy in Pakistan too. It doesn't matter from where you become chartered accountant. Its almost same everywhere. I have moved from Pakistan to UK by doing Pakistan chartered accountancy.

It doesn't matter in today's era. Its the experience that counts.

He is from Karachi , so the PCB has atleast silenced the Karachi media mafia.

Will be keeping an eye if anyone talks about his salary or was it reserved for only non-Karachi officals?

A good appointment on paper like Mani and Wasim Khan.

but Pakistan is like a twilight zone place where things don't happen naturally. More qualified people have come to Pak to fix stuff in different sectors and have succumbed to defeat. Plus a lot of key decisions are made by higher powers not concerned with PCB and there will be consistent interference in matters.

So let's see what happens.

If people like Wasim Khan and Faisal Hasnain are coming from abroad to work in the PCB with their credentials. Then they are expected to perform and deliver above a local person, i.e. give the PCB a big commercial boost, negotiate unparralled broadcasting deals e.t.c. otherwise if they fail to do this then the job they are doing can be done and executed by a local.

The PCB has slashed the CEO's salary from Rs 4 million a month to Rs 1.5 million and the powers associated with the position have gone as well. Wonder what his JD is if Ramiz is calling all the shots in the PCB

For a Pakistani to be the Chief Financial Officer, ICC from 2002-2008 & 2010-2017 is credit worthy for Hasnain and for Pakistan. He obviously is qualified otherwise he would not have been with the ICC in such a senior post for about 13 years. He has tremendous contacts not only with the ICC but with the leadership of the cricket boards of all the major cricket nations. This will help in getting more respect for Pakistan cricket.
With all due respect to Wasim Khan, he is a Britisher first and Pakistani second. Hasnain is a Pakistani first. A thorough professional who will help make the PCB more professional, efficient and less political. I see good times ahead for Pakistan cricket.
