The global population has exceeded 7 billion people and will continue to rise exponentially at an average rate at 1.09%.

As you will probably already know, the lower the standard of living for a nation, the higher the ratio of children per home. And the exact opposite for individuals who reside in a high standard of living.

My question to PP'ers is not whether or not they believe in family planning but rather is it the responsibility of affluent individuals to produce a greater amount of children than those who are of a lower standard of living?

Absolutely for family planning. There's just too many people in India and if you analyse the root cause of most social issues it will narrow down to the fact that the population is just too huge. Of course I don't think it should be implemented in a forced way like how Sanjay Gandhi did, but there should be some start to this.

I heard from a primary source that in the 70's, they gave a radio as a reward for young girls to undergo tubal litigation in India.

I think individuals who reside in first-world countries should have more children because they are more educated and less likely to be violent.

Affluent individuals are usually well educated and are more career orientated. They also understand that if they have a child they must be able to have the resource to provide it with all that it entails till it is an adult. Otherwise having many children without being able to care for them leads to the decrease in quality of life both for the children and the parents.

In the first world, people have children to fit their own needs, not to improve world statistics.

The reasoning behind the poor individuals to have more children is sometimes to have a better standard of living.

For example, farmers in Pakistan want help as they get too old for manual labor and having young and healthy children is a solution.

Think this video is a good fit in this thread:

Also religion plays a role among the uneducated and religious as all religions encourage having as many children as possible to basically enlarge their follower base with the promise that God will take care of the offspring.

That's also true.

But these religions are already massive and growing from converts. There really is no need to have a dozen children.

Some of them are just insane.

There was a Pakistani guy who wanted a 100 children and his kids supported his decision while they were running around like animals.

are you talking about this
Nearing a century: Three men doing their bit for Pakistan's skyrocketing population
With 96 children between them, these three men believe "God will provide," as they continue their rampant reproduction.
Three men who have fathered nearly 100 children among them are doing their bit for Pakistan's skyrocketing population, which is being counted for the first time in 19 years.

As experts warn the surging populace is gouging into hard-won economic gains and social services, the three patriarchs are unconcerned. Allah, they say, will provide.

Pakistan has the highest birth rate in South Asia at around three children per woman, according to the World Bank and government figures, and the census is expected to show that growth remains high.

“God has created the entire universe and all human beings, so why should I stop the natural process of a baby's birth?” asks Gulzar Khan, a father of 36, citing long-held belief that Islam prevents family planning.

a funny thing is even roman empire understand what overpopulation will do there empire

so the Romans use Silphium was used to prevent pregnancy
Silphium was used by the Romans as a form of herbal birth control. They used it so often, in fact, that the plant went extinct before the fall of the Roman Empire

Tried to find the video on Youtube but its not there anymore. :(

The religious excuse is really bizarre.

"Natural process"?

More like he can't keep it in his pants.

They may be massive now but the encouragement was very relevant during their inception. Even today no religion will do anything to prohibit anything which would cease the adding to their numbers. As long as their are such religious instructions no matter how outdated people will use to justify their actions and even expect recognition for doing the work of God.

Agree with your post but the last part can be applied universally.

Everybody wants credit for their effort, regardless of the outcome or motivation.

Out of interest, how was he supporting his kids? I'm assuming Allah wasn't depositing a monthly stipend in his bank account.

Family planning all the way.People should be allowed to have only 2(or max 3 kids).Any 'extra' child should be taxed.

Unfortunately this won't ever happen in Pakistan.Already we are overpopulated and I can bet that the annual population growth is higher than the worldwide average

I found it!

He is in a village in Sargodha and the title is, “Sargodha Pakistani Man Want 100
Children”.

He lives off a landowner’s land.

So looks like Allah has given him enough land to support his 100 children. Hope his kids don't have 100 each either, they will run out of land to sub-divide very quickly.

Allah also states not to blindly accept anything.

I don’t want to get into politics or religion but it’s not these people’s fault.

Why would anybody go out of their way to help people who have been kept in the dark for so long?

Who does go out of their way to help these people? I would have thought in Pakistan, if you have a large family you have to provide for them yourself ( with Allah's help of course), you aren't going to get family allowance or single mother benefits like you would over here.

Most people do work to provide.

But every now and than, you get individuals like the Sargodha one.
