So I am a young man beginning to expand on the topic of religion. So far I have listened to a few lectures from Sheikh Imran Hosein, Nouman Ali Khan, Hamza Yousuf and Bilal Phillips. Some others who are not scholars such as Zaid Ghazzawi. Any reccomendations on who to listen to fully comprehend the economic, political, and social consciousness of Islam?
Dr. Muhammad Abutaleb
He is an MIT graduate and speaks with great content.
IMO,
Islam is primarily a guidance on how to live a peaceful and morally conspicuous life.
It draws the boundary lines and identifies the do’s and donts.
It’s then up to the practitioner as to how honestly he tries his best without going into extremes.
The ibadaats, starting with the 5 times daily prayers, and then erecting a building on top of it is “living with honesty in our day to day interaction with others and in our work and business”. And this starts with paying zakaat, have good manners, achieve cleanliness and be respectful to one’s parents.
Then, from the examples of the life of our prophet (saw), we notice that
being patient,
being forgiving,
being generous
and being kind to kids, the females and the elderly
are a few great personality traits to have. And we should try to develop and live by these great characteristics, till our time ends, the final bell rings, and it’s time to go.
We can all go into the nitty gritty details of Islamic scholarship and split the hair and find deep philosophical meaning of Islamic studies but frankly speaking, it’s not really needed for general Muslim population.
How have you lived your practical life under the Islamic guideline is what matters.
