France is probably caught in between - should they go for all-out attack & win the group or settle for a 2nd spot (by losing), and get into apparently easier half of route to Finals.
Kimpembe for Umtiti probably was due, same Sidibe over Pavard; but not sure why Pogba, Mbappe & Lloris should sit out if they are serious about winning. Ideally, I would have liked Raboit instead of N'Zonzi in the squad, but N'Zonzi also had a great season.
That was a great chance missedHiguain chocked again LOL
Maradona with double middle finger on live TV.![]()
Another African side robbed here - this time referee had the chance to see the replay!!!!! And I am sure Senegal will miss out as well.
That was a great chance missed
Robbed ? It wasn't a penalty. There was no intention to handle the ball.
High ball, 1 on 1 situation; defender jumps to clear the common ball and handles it WITH RAISED ARM - you think, every handball that's given are intentional?
If this one is not Penalty, then what's difference between defender & goal keeper?
Hand balls should only be given if it's deliberate hand ball.
I don't think you would be calling for a penalty if it was Argentina in that situation.
I would have - I don't have any bias to any team. Intentional or not, Nigeria was in scoring position and defender made the mistake trying to clear it - in that case you can't give penalty against mistimed challenge, unless defender's intention is to hurt the forward. This is 2nd favor to Argentina - last time they got a Penalty against Ice Land when ball was flying 2 metre above the forward;.
FIFA wanted high profile team in 2nd round & FRA-ARG is much high profile than FRA-NGR.

That's never a penalty
The difference being a keeper intentionally makes saves with his hands whereas what Rojo did was not deliberate and his arms were not in an unnatural position
No that was not a penalty as the ball deflected from his head and then onto his hand and then became a nice volley for Nigerian player. Giving penalty there through VAR would have been very harsh on Argentina.
Slide tackles are different to hand balls. You still have the choice to handle. With a hand ball you can try to get your hand out of the way. Rojo was looking at the ball and was clearly trying to head it.
Your talking about Argetina getting a lucky penalty against Iceland, What about the blatant 1 that was missed by the referee? He didn't even check on VAR!!!!!!
Yes FIFA are the 1s who didn't track the run of Rojo and FIFA are the ones who missed Igholo chances as well .![]()
African teams can't handle the pressure. Simple.
I can't prove because it was against Nigeria. Almost at the same time, Ice land was given a penalty in other game.
Any way, getting refereeing favor is not new for Argentina, hope they play well against France when the refereeing will be even.
Nigeria will lose this game I knew. While this is the first clear handball this WC, that didn't earn penalty, but fair enough, it's Nigeria.
What I don't understand is you are trying to prove 2 things equal - someone shoots the ball, it hits the thigh of a defender, then deflects on to the arm and defender is trying to clear a high ball, deflects his high header to his raised arm ......
If it was fair enough & Nigerian striker got the chance to hit it, my question is why referee went for VAR? He should have denied it first time.
It was the VAR team that asked the referee to have another look at it, he checked it and stuck with his original decision. It was a legitimate use of VAR and ultimately the correct decision was made.
We are back to squire again - right call was made, because it was Nigeria. VAR team didn't ask referee to look at it at the beginning - he did that on the protest of Nigeria.
Coming to the rule of penalty, I am quite clear about the law, but referee has scopes to use own judgement; here he used in favor of Argentina, mainly due to that the suffering side being Nigeria.
The reason, I stated in earlier post as well - a sliding defender deflecting a shot or header to his arm can't control his motion, neither his reflex to avoid the deflected ball; so he has an alibi. BUT, a defender jumping high for a common ball to clear it, and heading it on to his arm at chest height - is stone cold penalty. Headed clear of a high balls is a skill for a defender, not a chance - he can't deflect it to his arm below head line, while clearing it. If it was a diving clearance, with head parallel to arm, and ball deflects from head to arm, I could have an argument - here he deflected the ball to his arm, intention doesn't matter. This is for a popular team Argentina and against an un-fancied African team Nigeria, hence everyone is trying to find justification and media is more or less avoiding the "touchy" discussion, otherwise British media still is crying after 32 years.
Anyway, I can't change the result and neither prove what would have happened if role was reversed, hence I accepted the result and wished good luck to Argentina against France.
