So....now we can say that in ODIs, Pakistan finally get rid of Misbah mind set...Azhar carried it for 2 years but now no more...

Under sarfraz pakistan is trying their best to get rid of that negative mindset....work is still not done yet....need to do more and make sure anyone carrying this cancer should be removed from the team for the greater good.

A combination of coach + captain + selectors. But as I said in the other thread, criticizing a legend of Pakistan cricket who guided us through our most difficult period ever is not on. He never was an ODI player let alone a captain of it. He was a test player through and through.

Agreed no need for these potshots at a time of celebration.

We still had tuk tuk problems against South Africa and Sri Lanka. Batting still is work in progress.

Yes I think it's unfair to blame one player, but even Mickey Arthur said in his interview we were still playing cricket from decades ago when he arrived and this mindset was something he knew had to be changed.

I know, Misbah was a big problem for limited overs cricket but I am not going to criticize him for that because there were a lot of other things going on that were bigger factors that lead to our demise.

You have to credit Micky Authur for that

He is doing everything to change the culture of our batting

Wasn't all misbahs fault..you need the players too..finally getting rid of the post 2003 generation..

Although, I think Azhar Ali is still some way from becoming a regular odi player, he had a big role to play in allowing Fakhar to settle. we are quick to blame players like him for putting pressure on the partner, so we should recognize when they help out.

Tha positivity today was simply outstanding... No doubt about that.

Credit to Mickey and Sarfraz.

I'm also very happy for Grant Flower, a hardworking individual, has finally tasted success in a global tournament.

Hopefully we will see many more 300+ Scores for the team. The way they batted is what is required at the international level nowadays.

Getting rid of the likes of Younis and Misbah was the best thing for Pakistani cricket in Odis. Pakistan will be favorites for the next world cup if they can replace Hafeez/ Malik with better players and keep Akmals/ Riaz out of the squad forever.

Yes if Misbah had Zaman up the order, he would play with a much higher S/R as his T20 performances clearly show. No need to tarnish Misbah's legacy on this day when Pakistan has won a major championship.

Will take time but things are in the right direction. All the negative downer clinically depressing causing individuals are away from the team now.

Many people forget that Misbah saved Pak from humiliation many times as well. Also won the Asia Cup and got them through the group stages in WC 2015 with a very poor squad.

Indeed Mickey Arthur is the difference. He really has focused on batting better while Waqar, Mohsin kept applying 80's tactics to hit hard in the last 10 overs.

This is a poor thread.

Today is a day of celebration you are still stuck with the past...i also don't see you have changed your mindset still stuck with the past...move on.

I could never forget in the 2011 w/cup semifinals he BLOCKED Pakistan to defeat in that match against India. And not forget the ********* shot in the 2007 T20 final against india.

Yes, absolutely
Misbah era saw the stagnation because of following reasons:
1) Akmals : Those over hyped, non-performer idiots kept coming back
2) Non inclusion of youngsters : May be after spot fixing 2010, PCB had this policy to have a team of mature players (domestic oldies), who may not get trapped in these things

I think more than Misbah, PCB was in reverse gear mode to avoid any controversies. That is why suddenly we saw flurry of Farhats,Akmals,Shehzads, etc.

And when you know you have to play most of your games in UAE, then spinners became priority.
Those times also saw the inclusion of Oldies fast bowlers, such as Cheema, Tanvi Ahmed,etc.etc.

Misbah would have come in and made a 4.4RPO half century and would say look at me i am captain saviour and look at my magnificent average :91:

Its definitely a work in progess. With the ability of Mickey and the charisma of Sarfraz and hopefully the youth of Pakistan, the team is in the right direction and will hopefully lift the team to go and show there abilities. The Champion's Trophy should be used as a platform for the future and Pakistan has the talent and ability to go on and succeed in the sport.

There were three phases of India-Pak rivalries: 1) Pre 2003 era : Pak absolutely dominated India, except for losing WC matches on three occassions 1992,1996 and 1999. Team of this era toyed with Indian batting and bowling everywhere. 2) 2003-2011 era : Accept or not, WC 2003 match defeat against India was very impactful, to the point that Pak lost its dominance over India. It began the era of equal contests, with India winning more crucial matches than Pakistan. This also saw the rise of young players in India, while we resort back to the strategy of recalling fringe players. Again, young players were not given that much attention, and players played round-robin among themselves. Rise of Younis , Misbah and Yousuf was the only thing we can perceive of in this era. 3) 2011 - 2017 : Absolutely rubbish period for Pakistan. This is the time where we surrendered completely to India. Major issue again was, instead of introducing young players, we kept the dirt with ourselves (non performing, over hyped players such as Akmals/Wahabs,etc.) 4)* 2017---*: CT win is very important for Pakistan; not because that we have won against India after long time, but more importantly, youngsters fought it out and beaten India to its death. Young players needed to experience the assault, which they have tasted. Next time, when they step onto the ground, they will just want to kill those Indians. Also, this victory will always have negative impact on Indians, now they will always feel anyone from Pak side can perform, and then they will go into the spiral of defensive mindset. - See more at: http://www.pakpassion.net/ppforum/showthread.php?261896-Is-the-Jinx-Broken&p=9340070#post9340070

I think we should not compare different generations,; IK, Miandad,Afridi,Misbah,YK, and Sarfaraz all faced different challenges in different era. You can not compare Apples with Oranges. I think, we followers need to become more sensible, every captain or player represented Pakistan had different roles and challenges, so stop comparing. At least now we have achieved something, we should drop this mindset of judging and comparing old players and captains with the current ones.

We need to focus on current team and future team (not the teams of the past), so that we can bleed India everytime we step onto the field

Glad finally we are shedding that mindset.

Though he was an able ODI cricketer, but he had a defensive mindset through and through. When your captain plays the negative game, it rubs off on the team.

Afridi's exit has also helped in terms of providing much needed exposure to the likes of Imad and, more recently, Shadab

Misbah was responsible for that squad selection. He ignored many upcoming players and was stuck with the likes of Wahab/Rahat and Shehzad./Azhar/Hafeez He favored his friends over domestic performances.

Misbah and Younis are test match legends but they were really holding us back in LOI

Let's hope Misbah's ghost has finally been buried forever. He killed the positive approach cricket in Pakistan completely but the new folks have so passionately revived that. Even the world is celebrating true Pakistani flavour cricket with Pak. It seemed the whole cricketing world minus India was supporting Pakistan yesterday.
