Lahore, 28 August 2019:

The Pakistan Cricket Board today announced a five-member panel to interview the candidates for the roles of Pakistan cricket team’s player support personnel.

The panel comprises: Intikhab Alam (former captain and the longest serving Pakistan team manager and coach), Bazid Khan (former international cricketer and one of the most respected commentators), Asad Ali Khan (member, Board of Governors), Wasim Khan (Chief Executive, PCB) and Zakir Khan (Director – International Cricket).

The interviews for the role of head coach and bowling coach will be carried out on Thursday after which the panel will send its recommendations to PCB Chairman Mr Ehsan Mani.

The interviews for the Batting and Strength and Conditioning coaches will be conducted after the position of the Head Coach is filled.

To maintain confidentiality, the PCB will not release the names of the candidates who will appear in the interview process.

Intikhab Alam continues to survive.

The newfound professional PCB under Mani and Wasim continues to exceed expectations.

I dont mind Bazid, Wasim, Zakir... dont know abt Asad Ali Khan but i am sure we would have had better options than Intekhab Alam... not happy to see him there but overall i would give it thumbs up

Decent panel with 3 members from PCB and two independent members. Good mix in independent members with a young member in Bazid and a veteran member in Intikhab Alam, will definitely help in brainstorming and different ideas being discussed.

I must say I am really impressed so far with all the steps Ehsan Mani and Waseem Khan have taken. They continue to keep the useless noisy seniors away from key decisions and give opportunities to sensible and professional people who actually care about Pakistan. Inti has always served Pak well both as player and Manager. Bazid Khan knows a lot about Pak domestic players. Pakistan is definitely heading in right direction.

Surely Mr Conflict-of-Interest-ul-Haq should be on this committee?

He was on the one which created the vacancy by firing Mickey. So he should also be on this one to appoint himself.

It's a good panel actually. They have covered every base and kept controversial people aside.

Regarding Intekhab, I actually think this is one of the best choice for this job. Let me explain why - last time, the panel that selected Arthur had Rameez & Wasim in it, much higher profile, BUT they failed to think beyond obvious, which eventually ended in Arthur's sacking - they failed to judge if the Coach is personality fit for the core strength and culture of PAK team or not. They selected a Coach based on the resume (technical skills), ignoring the soft skill part of the man. I wrote a long post regarding where Arthur needs to bridge gap if he is to succeed as PCT Coach and unfortunately, despite possessing one of the most glittering resumes and highest level of technical skills, Arthur failed to integrate in PAK cricket, it's core strength and the management style that fits the players.

No matter what we say about Intekhab and the guy is almost 80 now - BUT, it can't be by chance that the guy has managed two WC winning PAK team, has been Coach/Manager of several MUCH better PAK team, trained many PAK greats and he comes with 6 decades of association with PAK cricket. He knows the PCT and it's players better than anyone there. Yes, for a regular functional job like coach, selector or administrator, young man at this age is a misfit, but for a single day task of interviewing few candidates for this job, guy is the best that I can think of (Among Buzurgs, one had to be there).

I am sure, eventual call will be taken by Wasim Khan (Otherwise, CEO normally doesn't attend interview session, unless the incumbent is to report directly to CEO), and that should be enough - other 4 are there for balancing act, to make sure that after appointment (By WK), barking is manageable, explainable.

This is a non issue, they are acting out the employers not coaching anyone. The applicants have to give interview and impress these guys, thats it.

Also things now look interesting, because there arn't any good batting coach candidates i heard. If Dean jones doesnt want to be batting coach and wants the head coach slot, than they might have to make Misbah the batting coach with Dean Jones being the head coach.

I think Misbah might be made the Fitness coach, because the situation has not become as such.

Dean jones getting head coach and i think he will also be made batting aswell as selector.

It all depends on who the candidates are for the batting coach now

I just want to see both Misbah and Deano involved in the Pakistan coaching setup in some way, they've been part of the most successful PSL franchise in terms of having an eye for and producing new talents. Ideally I'd want Dean Jones the head coach and Misbah maybe a batting coach or assistant coach. I also wouldn't mind Misbah as chief selector.

I'm surprised Mr. Conflict of Interest isn't a part of this panel so that he can appoint himself.

if Misbah is batting coach and Dean is head, than Misbah cant be the selector. It wont be right.

THe head coach should be the selector.

But Misbah as head coach is more valuable to us than as a batting coach.

Strange panel.

In fact most of the people on the panel are not worthy of making such important decisions for the future of Pakistan cricket.

Surprised they didn't include Wasim Bari and Mushtaq Mohammed in the panel also, alongside Intikhab Alam.

Mushy would be an upgrade over the other two babas.

He is in the top three captains Pakistan have ever had. Doesn't seem to have any many PCB roles.

For 3 candidates which includes 1 local person 5 interviewers!!!! PCB must be a super rich organization to waste money like that.

How on earth WI, Afghan, SL, BD attract more applications than PCB?

So per news reports, Misbah-ul-Haq, Waqar Younis and Mohsin Khan had their interviews today. Are they even going to bother interviewing Dean Jones, given that Misbah is reportedly already the chosen one? (media rumors)

any idea who is going to be chosen for all three positions ?

I'm happy to see Bazid Khan and Wasim Khan in the list.

Not too sure about Asad Ali Khan or Zakir Khan. - Who are they?

Intikhab Alam survives every era of PCB politics.

Anyway, 2 legit people in the list is better than what we used to have before. So there is some progress.

Question for all who are disappointed at the panel:

1) Who'd you rather have on the panel?

2) Does it matter whos on the list when we all know Misbah will become the coach?

I meant one or the other.

Exactly media is constantly pushing Misbah for more than a month for head coach even before applying now they are telling Misbah is running ahead.

So far both Md Akram and Jalaludding withdrew their applications mean Waqar is well ahead.

Also, PCB is interested on Faisal Iqbal for batting coach.

According from insider Ajmal is spin coach.

This is a circus, PCB takes one step forward and two steps back.
All the hard work Arthur has done on fitness and modern day ODI cricket gonna go to waste.
Please keep Misbah away from coaching or any other technical job.
