It's that time of the year again, healthcare professionals are recommending people get their flu shots. What do you guys think? Is it necessary, are you for or against it? I've done well without the shot thus far but I'm considering it now. Last time I got it was when I was a kid but apparently you're supposed to get it every year. Some people say it isn't worth it and could have side effects(?)

I always get sick within three days g whenever I have them

It's most definitely worth it. Take it as soon as possible; preferably by September.

Common side-effect along with a sore arm. Take two panadol tablets a day for 1-2 after getting vaccinated, even before you start to have mild fever.

so would you recommend getting the flu shot or is just a waste of time and unneccesary? Also is panadol the same as ibuprofen, I don't we have that brand here(?).

Yes, highly recommended. It is not necessary but it is going to reduce the chances by nearly 50%. The side-effects are usually nothing serious, you might get mild fever or a sore arm for a few days, but that is much better than going down with influenza.

Furthermore, it is important to note that it takes around 10-14 days for the vaccine to settle in your system, so if you are unfortunate enough to catch a virus within that window, the vaccine will not work. But again, the chances of that happening are low.

Considering everything, getting vaccinated yearly is the best option by far.

Panadol (paracetamol) is not anti-inflammatory but ibuprofen is. You can take both for fever, but only the former on an empty stomach.

In the U.S. you can get Tylenol which is the same as Panadol.

Cool thanks, I might get but I've heard from anti-vaxxers that it might weaken your immune system which is naturally good since I rarely get sick. Do health pros get vaccinated regularly?

Oh okay. I should've known, tylenol is our version of panadol. :facepalm

Some of the ingredients in flu shots:
•Formaldehyde: it is toxic and potentially lethal in high doses. Known carcinogen.
•Thimerosal: made of an organic form of mercury. Mercury exposure at high levels can harm the brain, heart, kidneys, lungs, and immune system. Known to have caused autism in children.
•Gelatin:Most flu vaccines use pork-based gelatin as a stabilizer. Can cause allergic reactions.
•Resin: known to cause allergic reactions.
•Polysorbate 80: can cause severe allergic reactions and anaphylaxis. Also associated with infertility.

You sure that you want to put these directly into your blood stream?

Recommended especially if you're over 65 or have a long term condition.

Isn’t Tylenol Acetaminophen and not Paracetamol? Or is Acetaminophen and Paracetamol the same thing?

In any case, one needs to be careful with Tylenol: there are far too many cases of liver toxicity caused by it.

The level of misinformation and extrapolation of effects is mindblowing.

If I use the same logics, rice could kill man. Stop eating rice.

Take it. Especially if you have small kids at home.

I take the shots every year by the end of August.

Acetaminophen is “American” for Paracetamol. They have to do everything differently, don’t they?

I bet you watched and took the arrivals series seriously haha. Do you believe the earth is flat? Water can kill you if you have it in a large doses. Go check the LD50. Anything is lethal in large doses. Don’t be silly.

Definitely for. Furthermore, antivaxxers are a waste of space. Coming so close to eradicating lethal diseases of 1800s and prior, these morons are now reviving said diseases from the brink.

I can respect pretty much any difference in opinion, but this one is pure stupidity.

It should be law in the US like every other first world country to have your children get vaccinated, and if you don't you should be punished with hefty fines or jail time, because you clearly care more about being a hippie vegan type mor-on than putting your kid and the entire population at risk.

Places in Sweden IIRC the law for vaccines is like that.

But sadly the US is still operating as a 3rd world country healthcare wise. Everything is about money and business here, including your life and wellbeing.

In a random sample of about 50 people I know (spread over a few years), all those who took the flu shot either became seriously ill right away or got the flu anyway. The majority of those who did not get the flu shot were perfectly fine and did not get the flu.

It’s a myth that flu shot causes the flu. It take 2-3 weeks to build up the immunity after receiving the shot. But if you had contracted flu prior or during that time period, you are gonna get the flu but that’s not due to shot itself. It’s not a live vaccine.

You do realize the working principle of a vaccine right?

http://time.com/5138100/how-effective-is-the-2018-flu-shot/

"How effective is the 2018 flu shot?
Early findings from Canada indicate a 17 percent effectiveness against the viral strain.....
According to preliminary results from Australia, the flu shot was only about 10 percent effective against H3N2 there during the last winter in the southern hemisphere."

So getting the flu shot only results in between a 10% to 17% chance of not getting the flu. Not worth it putting a vaccine with poisonous ingredients into your body when it does such a bad job in protecting you.
