Russian Ambassador to Pakistan Alexey Dedov has said that his country will be using footballs manufactured in the Pakistani city of Sialkot for use in matches of the 2018 FIFA World Cup scheduled to be held in Russia this summer, Express News reported on Sunday.

“Pakistan is one of the most renowned countries in the world in the manufacture of sport equipment,” Dedov was quoted as saying.

“We want to enhance our cooperation with Pakistan to other sectors as well,” he added.

The city of Sialkot is famous all over the world for producing the finest quality of sport goods. Footballs manufactured in the country have also been a part of the footballing extravaganza since a long time.

Good to see Pakistan being represented in some way in the World Cup I guess.

Why is this news. Haven't we been making the footballs since time immemorial?

It's news as the footballs will be used in the biggest sporting event on the planet.

Pakistani footballs were also used in Brazil, showing the excellence of sports products in Sailkot.

would Pakistan have more sale in match balls or replica balls that are sold along the world cup

Think they have been used in the past three/four WCs.... distinctly remember reading something about the Germany and South Africa WCs as well.

It's Adidas again. In the UK it's prices at £30.00 from JD Sports.

I would love to visit the sports manufacturing factories in Sailkot and buy some equipment when I go Pakistan this summer.

Pakistani football may be languishing in the doldrums but its footballs are set to shine at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, Al Jazeera reported on Saturday.

Russian Ambassador to Pakistan Alexey Dedov had recently confirmed that the balls to be used at this summer's spectacle — called Telstar 18 — will be manufactured in Pakistan.

The announcement had come as little surprise as the footballs used at the tournament's last installment in 2014 were also supplied by manufacturers based in Sialkot — a city renowned world over for its thriving sports goods industry.

"This is an honour for us, that we are going to provide footballs for the world cup once again. We are very excited to meet this challenge," Khawaja Masood, CEO of Forward Sports, the company entrusted with the task of making footballs for the big summer tournament, told Anadolu Agency.

"Although Pakistan football team will not be participating in the forthcoming World Cup, its presence will be felt in all the matches [because of the balls]."

According to Al Jazeera, Masood's company is a contracting manufacturer of global sports apparel giant Adidas, for whom it is currently working on a large order for the World Cup.

Masood would not say how many footballs he has been asked to supply, but he did mention that his company makes approximately 700,000 footballs on a monthly basis.

Husnain Cheema, president of the Pakistan Sports Goods Association, claimed that Pakistan's share in global supply of footballs in 2018 would be a staggering 10 million.

Traditionally, Pakistani footballs used to be hand-stitched, but that changed in 2013 when Forward Sports switched to thermo bonded balls, whose panels are joined together through heat rather than stitches.

Local manufacturers believe Pakistani companies are prising away business from their Chinese counterparts with their high-quality end products.

"Huge football production business is being transferred from China to Pakistan because of the quality we are providing to the world," Ijaz Khokhar, who heads Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association, told Al Jazeera.

Even in Sialkot you find many unprofessionals selling fake times, so be careful, but you will find many real Professionals selling good quality.

Brilliant news.

So many good things come out of Pakistan.

Such a shame that the minority ruin the country's reputation.

The official ball on Adidas website costs around £150, was thinking of buying, it but read the reviews and the quality is fine but it's a weird heavy feeling ball

If you have relatives in Pakistan you can get the same official ball for 1/10th of the price.

I do have in lahore just risk buying a fake one, as my relatives do not watch/ play football

I saw it on their website for £249.99 but you can buy original cheaper replica versions for around £29.99 or lower.

The balls in previous tournaments were criticsed as being too light which meant they moved a lot in the air, probably why this is heavier which is a good thing.

Hopefully one day we will be celebrating Pak being in the tournament. Ball's made in Pak gives me no comfort or reason to celebrate.

Pakistan made Al Rihla footballs are flying high at the Qatar World Cup

According to a FIFA website, the Al Rihla football travels faster in flight than any other in the tournament’s history. Its bold and vibrant colours are inspired by Qatar’s culture, architecture, iconic boats and its flag. Adidas is bringing its sporting expertise to the game’s premier event yet again by providing a match ball with sleek aesthetics that also delivers accuracy and flight stability. It is designed for high speed games and furthermore, is manufactured with strictly water-based inks and glues for long term sustainability.

The core, or the heart of the ball, provides accuracy and consistency for fast-paced action with maximum rebound accuracy. The best footballs should rebound about 60 percent. That means if you drop the ball from a height of about one metre (100 centimetres) above the ground. It should rebound up to 60 centimetres. Not too much more, but not less either. These specifications are fulfilled by the Al Rihla balls. The shell of the ball has a new 20-piece panel shape that improves the accuracy, flight stability and swerve.

The balls are manufactured in Pakistan through a company named Forward Sports. Manufacturing footballs for FIFA is not a first time experience for this company. It has done so for earlier World Cups and other major tournaments. The Brazuca ball that was used at the 2014 World Cup and the Telstar ball used at the 2018 World Cup were also manufactured by this company. But every time there needs to be an improvement over the previous occasion. The game is getting faster and faster and the teams desire even better balls each time.

The official ball for the FIFA Club World Cup 2025, designed and manufactured by Forward Sports in Sialkot, Pakistan, will be used throughout the tournament.

What a proud moment this is for Pakistan.
