So as expected IK appoints his friend Zakir as Director International Cricket operations. Why did he appoint him directly. He should have waited for Mani to be (s)elected as Chairman so that he could have made the appointment.
Unfortunately he is doing the same stuff as he has been criticizing his predecessors for. Nepotism.
Welcome to naya Pakistan

Meanwhile, Haider also appointed former Test cricketer Zakir Khan as Director International Cricket. The latter stressed on the need for planning appropriately for the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup. “Pakistan has to play non-stop cricket till the 2019 World Cup and for that it is important to plan accordingly so that the team is in great shape for the mega event,” he said.

Zakir was removed from the same position during the reign of former PCB chairman Najam Sethi and has also served as manager of the Pakistan Cricket Team in the past.

Imran has said that he wants pcb to incorporate an election system, he's bringing these guys in to at least implement that system. And even if he wasn't, all the former positions in pcb were all held through nepotism so why are we complaining now?

Imran Khan can do what he feels is best for the country. The public has given him the mandate to do precisely that. Noonies can keep crying. Their leader will be in Adiala for a long time.

Banda hypocrite ho, lekin Imran Khan na ho.

He can be summed up by one picture.

The problem is when the PM appoints someone like Najam Sethi or Zaka Ashraf as a reward for their political loyalty.

Given that was all acceptable in the past, then now given you have a PM who as it happens himself is one of the worlds most respected cricketers of all time, and incidentally the chap he has appointed as PCB chairman has guess what , a background in cricket administration at the highest level in ICC as former president.. you can hardly call it nepotism.

Wait how is Imran Khan involved?

Justice (retd) Syed Afzal Haider is the Election Commissioner for the Pakistan Cricket Board and now interim PCB chairman based on the constitution.

Haider brought in Zakir Khan.

Nobody is questioning Mani's appointment. It's about Zakir. He has been in the PCB for more than two decades in different capacities; Director International Cricket operations, director domestic cricket operations, GM cricketing operations and even the manager of under 19 cricket team but has hardly made any difference.
Being PM friend or a hunting partner would have been a secondary thing had he achieved something during the 20 plus years with the pcb

C'mon boss everybody knows who is calling the shots. A retired judge would be the last in my list

Love the mental gymnastics that some disciples are being forced to do to justify that their hero is different from the also-rans. Of course, any sort of criticism is taken as a personal affront. The level of discourse in this country regresses day after day sadly.

Fair enough and I did a bit of digging as I'm unaware of Imran's connections.

1) Zakir Khan is a close friend of Imran Khan
2) Imran Khan wants Mani as PCB chairman
3) Zakir Khan will be or has been used as leverage with the BoG members (maintains good relations with several of the members)

Looks like a bit of political maneuvering to get Mani in.

However, the real shocker is Zakir Khan's past and that deserves attention.

1) In 2007, he was accused of meddling in team affairs
2) In 2009, he stopped players from speaking to the media
3) In 2014, he once again had issues with the media and had to be replaced

He does have a tremendous amount of relevant experience (including sitting on several committees and managing important negotiations for contracts/tours/security setups) but his past suggests a streak of unprofessionalism.

It appears the "solution" is to keep him away from the media and make use of his national/international connections (including his positive connections with India) from the last tour in 2006. This is one to keep an eye on and I can see why it's being criticized.

A real "gray area" hiring this one.

Imran Khan has always believed in nepotism, and I don’t think nepotism is bad if the right person gets the job, but that is not the case here.

The bottom-line is that Imran is already failing to walk the talk and put his money where his mouth is.

It is always easy to make tall claims and criticize when you are not in a position of power and are sitting in the opposition, but when you are the one holding the horse by the reigns, you realize that it is not easy to ride horse.

The lack of activity in this thread is not surprising - if Nawaz would have appointed his friend in this manner, all hell would have broken loose.

However, the cowards will always hide, and they are now hoping that this thread slips down to page 2 so that they can crawl out of their holes.

Imran Khan might be a cricket god, but you have to follow the due process. Imran tweeted that he has appointed Mani as Chairman, before someone told him that he goofed up and he cannot appoint a PCB Chairman directly, which is why he fired another tweet to correct himself.

Nonetheless, his tweet way back in 2016 shows that instead of educating himself on the process of appointing a PCB Chairman, he instead decided to engage in cheap political point scoring which backfired badly.

The appointment of Zakir Khan is definitely nepotistic. He has been involved in the PCB for years and has been up to no good. On what merit did he get the job, and why did he get it when the new Chairman is yet to take charge?

Secondly, what are his qualifications for this post?

As far as Mani is concerned, he is not a nepotistic selection, but can someone list me his achievements as cricket administrator? What good has he done with his role in the ICC?

I think Sethi, in spite of not having a cricketing background, has done more in his role as PCB Chairman than Mani has as cricket administrator in many years.

This is pathetic.

Zakir is a really really bad appointment. Similar to Mani but this is way worse, at least Mani has some international experience and connections.

PCB ruined. Or Rather going to remain ruined.

The complaint is because IK spent 20 years complaining about nepotism in offices such as the PCB and his first act is also nepotism. Why not support Sethi in the time he had left in which team, behind the scenes, they could have implemented an electoral board.

In English we call it hypocrisy.

I read that even though Zakir Khan was not employed by the PCB in the last few years, he was still getting a free monthly salary from the PCB and was just coming to the PCB to use the gym and then would leave. Even Sethi was powerless and could do nothing about him.

Clearly, there are similarities between the two. The supporters (the hardcore ones) are hardly distinguishable as well.

I'm not a fan of Trump the individual but as US leader, their economy has grown under his tenure thus far.

I used to joke that Zakir Khan might become PCB Chairman under Khan ..... but this one is really surprising. Govt. can appoint trusted people, but ZK had been a controversial character for long. This one appointment might cost lots of credibility - wish he doesn't make it even worse.
