I think when one is no longer a child in physical terms.

France did not have any age, so many kids abused, it was difficult to prosecute if no threats, violence etc.

There are still nations where one can have legitimate intimacy with children and not be prosecuted. Something needs to be done.

Very strange people. French are possibly the biggest nation where people indulge in incest. Many used the no age of consent law for incest, abusing their own children knowing they couldnt be prosecuted. There is a big scandal over this , hence the change in law.

Another example of this nation needing to look in the mirror before trying to stamp moral principles on others.

14 is ok if both are under 18 because they're very hormonal and are going to find a way to do something about it anyway.

16 is also OK given the restrictions therein.

Also children are maturing faster due to the internet and other factors. What children at 12-13 know these days I didn't even know till I was 16-17.

I dont think the new French law is great but at much better than no consent, it should save a lot of abuse of children.

Ofcourse I knew about it and would've availed of the offer if the option was available (did avail of it at 15 though) but I was talking about the more hardcore and deviant stuff easily available to kids these days.

Thats true but such laws are generally made on general factors not outliers. There will always be a group that goes against the common trend thats why there are other exceptions put in place but there can never be a perfect general law.

I actually think it's the opposite. Children used to more mature before. Or Atleast 16 year olds before were more mature than today's 16 year olds.

Yes nowadays they have alot more access to information and knowledge, but I still feel the ease of life nowadays has resulted in more immaturity

Most people mature when they are given responsibility. Marry off people when they are young, and will solve a lot of issues. healthy babies, less wastage of time courting or thinking of dating which the current youth does., become a grand parent in your late 30s, instead of becoming a parent (sometimes with the help of fertility clinics).

In an Islamic country, small kids are being molested by adult mulvis that's what I call immature behavior. That’s not correct. Read the article again.

The age of consent in France is set at 15 for years. Breaching this law results in a five year jail term and €75000 fine. This proposed law strengths penalties for sex with people below 15 years.
