The Lord works in mysterious ways. I'm 5'9, 30 years old and I used to weight 82 kgs. I had a severe case of gastritis some days back. I can't even put into words how much I suffered. Took a few injections and went through a course of a few medicines and now I'm free from any discomfort. I however completely lost my appetite, as is the case with the after effects of gastritis.

I've tried my best to eat with very little success since then. I've been taking liquid food in limited amount. I've come down to 77.6 kgs from 82 kgs.

Kind of a blessing in disguise since I've lost weight with very little effort from my side.

My brother, sis-in-law and my nephew are arriving here on the 6th of March to celebrate my nephew's 2nd birthday.

I was wondering if I can get to 73 kgs by then. It would be wonderful. Do you think it's a realistic goal? I mean do you think it's possible?

Possible, terrible for your body if that's already proper BMI. Will u be winning some "best loser" award I recall something like that my client company has,the biggest loser of the year wins an IPAD :usman

Nahin yaar, I used to weight 73 kgs the last time I met my brother's family, and that was almost a year ago. Then excessive drinking and excessive junk food shoot my weight to 82 kgs.

It would be nice for them to see my in the same shape that I was the last time we met.

75 should be good if you have some bisceps with that although fitness should be a habit than to impress someone but no judging your life.

Lift heavy and get to 85 kg by eating more. Forget these short term goals

85 kgs? I'd look like a 'gainda' if that happens. I was already on my way to looking like a 'gainda' before I finally lost some weight.

Maybe try a low sodium low carb diet obviously with a calorie deficit.

Vast majority of that will be water weight though, so you will not really be any healthier.

However this will be temporary, as soon as you introduce carbs and sodium back in your diet you will gain it all back.

Better to try to lose weight slowly, about a pound a week.

Also, trying to "lose weight" is the wrong approach. What you want to do is lose fat, this is not the same thing as losing weight.

I 5 10 and was 68 kg at the start of 2016. Now I weigh 80 kg and look leaner, bigger and more handsome :afridi than ever before. Desis have a misconception where they think that the lesser you weigh the better. It's quite the opposite. You're 5 9 and 73 so I suggest you start eating around 2800 calories, get enough protein and start off with a good muscle building workout program for beginners. Once you get enough muscle underneath that fat, you will look much better. After that you can think about cutting down whatever fat is left. It's a long term thing but it's gonna be much more gratifying than losing 3 useless kgs for some family members.

Has to be a long term goal. Short term fixes dont work, nor do spot reductions.

During these 21 days, Skip rope in the morning..build up from 3 sets of 20 seconds skipping to 5 sets of 40-60 seconds. It will be hard to increase the duration and would need efforts. But 3 sets would hardly take you 5-8 minutes daily. Not really much if u ask me. Do only this much of cardio in the morning on an empty stomach.

Lift weights in the evening. Perform the various exercises of shoulders, chest, biceps, triceps, back and most importantly legs. Lift lighter weights for these 21 days and do more reps for each sets. Try to finish the workout session as quickly as you can. Dont linger around for hours like you'll be paid for it, throw your phone away in the gutter if you have to.

Now coming to the most important aspect, Diet. You can lift a moutain and run circles around the world with little progess if you dont eat well. Make lifestyle changes here for God's sake. No crash diets. Eat 30% of the junk you usually eat. Dont stop completely, you wont be able to keep it up. Cut down on fat intake, Eat foods with proteins blah blah you know it already.

When u reach your goal , go beyond it and try to better your physique. Or at the very least keep up the light exercises to stay in shape.

It can be possible. I was weighing around 88 kg and came down to 75 losing close to 1 kg a week. Your TDEE would be around 2400 calories, so a deficit of ~800-900 a day can help you lose close to 3 kg over 3 weeks. Exercise would help a lot too.

If you start eating very few carbs, you can lose a lot of water weight and reach your goal. But apart from lowering your weight, that won't really change much.

What's your height?

4.6 kg or around 10 pounds in 3 weeks? That seems too much. If the math is correct, you're looking at a calorie deficit of 1500 every day (so consuming only about 1000 calories every day if your regular intake is around the 2500 mark). Sounds extremely unhealthy to me.

yes it is possible but you'll have to go low carb low sodium just to lose a lot of water weight along with fat. This can be done for 6 march but isn't a long term solution. Lift weights, then cardio afterwards to lose weight along with a calorific deficit and the pounds will drop off

Update -

So after my brother and his family arrived, I once again went into my old ways and started drinking and eating heavy junk food. And finally reached where I was before, 81.5 kgs. Then something happened, I suffered a sever attack of acute pancreatitis and was hospitalized immediately on the 20th of May. I swear I've never suffered so much pain in my life before, it was basically hell. I was in the ICU for around a week where I was in a serious condition. Thankfully my situation improved and was shifted from the ICU to general ward after about a week and was discharged few days later.

I now know I can never, ever have any type of alcoholic beverages again. Unless, I want to die a slow miserable death. I haven't had a drop of alcohol since then.

Along with it, I'll have to only eat food that I'm permitted. Here is the list -

All types of fruits (except coconut), all types of vegetables, chicken, fish (non-oily), fat-free diary. A maximum of 1 tea spoon olive oil allowed daily for cooking.

Any thing that doesn't belong to the categories above would trigger another attack. The stuff that would absolutely kill me are alcohol and fatty food.

So I haven't touched alcohol since my last attack and I've been on a complete strict diet. It's been not even 2 months and I've gone from 80.5 kgs to 70 kgs. Mind you I haven't been starving, I've been eating well although I'm on a low calorie diet. I've been eating either chicken or fish everyday.

I was the laziest person on earth, and now I've decided to start looking after myself. I've been walking on the treadmill for 3 kms daily, brisk walking. I know it's not much but for a person with very, very little stamina most of my life it's not bad. I started merely 4 days ago and it will take sometime to improve and walk 5 kms daily.

Got a membership in a gym where a couple of my friends have been working out and I'll be joining them in action from Monday. Would like to reach 60-62 kgs someday and then try to gain muscle mass.

Let's see where life takes me ahead.

Wow well done. Start building muscles and your weight will automatically increase but the fat content in your body will decrease dramatically. You say you do brisk walk for 3km, IMO that is excellent if combined with weight training and good diet.

A handy tip a Toronto FC fringe soccer player told me was to walk/run before and after the workout. The before part gets your body warmed up and heart rate pumping, this way the same weight training exercise will burn more calories than without the pre-workout run. The purpose of the post-workout run is that since by that time your energy reserves would be depleted the body will be forced to use up the stored fat to provide energy for run/walk. This will further help in reducing body fat. I have tried this strategy and it has worked well for me. Keep in mind this will reduce the amount of weight you can lift during your workout and the post-workout walk/run would be almost like hell.

I tried to do the keto diet earlier this year but failed miserably as I could not get the fat ratio right. You have to consume a lot of fat to enter ketosis. So in the end it was effectively a very low-carb diet but I still ended up losing 5-6 kilos in 30 days and ended up pretty toned. Mind you I am a pretty slim guy - I went from 68-69 to 63 kilos at the end of the 30 days. Heavier people may end up dropping even more weight.

So give it a go if you are desperate for some quick weight loss. The key is not consuming more than 20g of carbs a day, sugar is a strict no and you have to run a caloric deficit. The great thing about the diet is because all you are eating is fat and protein you feel full all the time even though you are not eating that many calories. Mind you you lose a lot of strength at the gym and can feel tired a lot especially initially as your body gets used to carb deprivation.
