Batting at a rate of 2.30 by both teams for the first 4 days. And then on day 5 the match changes.

No balls, 19 wickets, out not given on review

I've heard this about a doZen times

That's how test matches especially in Asia (not India of recent years) and Windies go

Open up like crazy on fourth day

Poor tactics by Pakistan has made this match an entertaining one. We should have won this comfortably.

I think, that T20 of 227 in 20 overs was more entertaining..................

Test Matches can be like good tv series.

Build up to the finally. :misbah

One of the best ever no doubt.

To the most entertaining ever? :))

Never change PP.

Last one hour was so thrilling.

Maybe you couldn't understand the tension and drama but every fan I know in my whatsapp group was texting every minute, with the reviews getting reversed and overstepping etc.

To be fair thought Pak would win comfortably at the start of the day but Chase played an epic innings.

Was watching it live. One of the best test match. Series on the line, first ever series win, misbah, younis's last match.

Fair enough, I didn't watch the last hour so I can't say it. Though there's been several that have had a similar close finishes and multiple matches which have been back and forth across the 5 days.

The last 2 days were veeerry exciting.
I had to do a lot of work and had to prepare for interviews but was glued to the match. :(

What made this final day so gripping was the context of not winning a series in the Caribbean, the series being on the line, last series for Misbah and Younis, the previous history of last wicket stands and late dramas between these two sides in WCs and Test series.

Then the umpiring decisions going one way then reversed, the missed chances and individual performances made for a script to a Test match even Hollywood couldn't write.

Thanks to poor captaincy and defensive batting, otherwise match would have been finished in4 days without the excitement.

No, I said when Babar Azam was sawn off that Pakistan needed to declare after 45 overs to give themselves 110 overs to dismiss West Indies.

And I was right.

Yes true there have been many - think many fans are just reacting for the moment because of the adrenaline rush.

Yeah I felt especially so good for Misbah and Younis. They deserved such a grand send off after all they have given.

I feel the next 1 year will be very tough for Pak - they will struggle for a bit of time to get replacements.

By 4th over pakistan were 109, with target being 240ish. West indies got til 200 here.

So basically your idea would had cost us the match

Hardly.

You could have taken out the twelve slow middle overs of the Pakistan innings and declared sooner.

I think, PAK gave 106 overs, but due to bad light day 4 was curtailed. IICRC, when Misbah declared, 18 overs were scheduled, take out 2 for the changeover, it's around 106 (at least 104) overs left. The risk of declaring 30 minutes earlier is another 15 runs less & 7 more overs - that's 290 in 111 overs.

I think, PAK dropped couple of catches, got Chase out of a No Ball & above all, WI tali supported Chase exceptionally, hence the match got such close. Otherwise, timing of declaration was fine.

My friend, you made that same mistake last night!

After Day 1 ended at 5.30 due to sunset, it was certain that Days 2 to 4 would too. The ICC playing conditions made it a certainty.

So the close of play was utterly predictable.

Hence the argument that the declaration was around 12 overs too late.

Today, they played till 5:58, because the light was better today. One can't declare early predicting the chance of a bad light in such tight station. PAK wasn't leading by 400 then.

But, I thought, PAK played too slow in early part of the 2nd innings, which didn't help them either - at one point, it was 90/7 at 2/over, then couple of tail-ender smacked 90 in half the time, which indicates top order was too slow. 105 overs were more than enough - but I would have opted to get all-out for 180 in 7/8 overs less time.

Yeah. But the thing is nobody will remember that mickey mouse match not even the guys who participated in that match.

Michael Holding once said that he does not remember most of the ODI matches he played in, but he remembers every single Test match.

Nevertheless, I really do not think that a single day of exciting cricket can excuse four days of torture,.

No, the playing conditions for Day 5 are different.

The issue wasn't cloud earlier in the game, it was "the point at which artificial light exceeds natural light" due to the setting sun.

Once the precedent was set on Day 1, that couldn't change for Days 2 to 4.

The light was actually WORSE tonight - there was cloud and drizzle. But the playing conditions say that on Day 5, you play the Final Hour unless it becomes dangerous, even if 90% of the light is from the floodlights.

Still, they won the game after WI 9, 10 & Jack batted for 25+ overs' therefore I don't think the declaration was delayed, even 98 overs was enough. However, if I am not wrong - the playing condition tells, if the game is called off before schedule for weather/light issues, overs'll be made up next day - therefore the match should have started half an hour earlier today, probably that drizzle didn't help. Any way, I don't think the declaration was delayed, rater PAK batted too slow to reach that 300 target - should have reached there few overs earlier. I am sure, PAK didn't calculate how many overs, rather how much lead the need for 10 wickets - tht it self is a defensive mindset.

Couldn't watch the game because of work.. how many hours wi had to last for a draw?

1 ball - the one that Gabriel got out. If he had survived that ball, Chase should have played out the last over of Amir.

Damn!! Definitely thrilling game to end the series!

Sir may I remind you that you had given up hope and accepted a drawn series in the match thread :srt

I know that you've mentioned about the different playing conditions for Day 5 (which is correct).

But in addition to that - as far as I'm aware, they can only take half an hour extra at the end of Day 1-4 if the 90 overs aren't bowled, no more than that. Regardless of light and what not.
