I am making this thread to discuss fruits found all over the world.

I have eaten apple, guava, orange, mango, pineapple, date, avocado, blackberry, blueberry, persimmon, kiwi, jackfruit, coconut, grape, lychee, watermelon, papaya, banana, pomegranate, kodbel (Bangladeshi fruit), sugar apple, jaam (Bangladeshi fruit), peanut, cashew etc.

Two fruits I have never tried before but would love to try are blue java banana and rambutan (a lychee-like fruit found in Sri Lanka).

My top 3 favorite fruits would be mango, guava, and date.

Anyway, feel free to discuss fruits on this thread. :inti

Great initiative.

This could become series.

Next thread suggestions :-
  • Cereals
  • Vegetables
  • Flowers
  • Dry fruits
  • Salads

I love Dry Figs from the Indian grocery store here. They are Afghan Figs. I was addicted to their taste for sometime. Had to quit because of belly reasons. :apology

Nice.

I have never tried fig. Would love to try.

I don't eat too much fruit. I have an apple or banana occasionally. It is something I should eat more of.

I enjoy fruit smoothies more than eating the fruits themselves.

Dry fruit can be combined in this thread as it's similar subject matter, same with vegetables and salads, but apart from that I look forward to other threads in the series.

Any Pak posters tried japani phul? It was a favourite of my late grand mother. I enjoy it occasionally but again I am not a big fruit eater so it is a rare thing nowadays.

Didn't try golden kiwi. Yup. Only tried the green one.

To be honest, didn't like kiwi much. No match to subcontinental fruits. :inti

Golden kiwi doesn't taste the same as the green one lol, the green one is sour, the golden one is sweet.

Golden one is significantly better then The green one

I see. Didn't know. Thanks for telling me. Never seen any golden kiwi here.

The fruits I eat the most are persimmon, mango, apple, date, orange, guava, watermelon, papaya, and peanuts.

During summer times, we have a Sri Lankan seller here who sells jackfruits; I eat those during summer months.

Only available in NZ and Aus. No where else. Apprantly Italy and South America use to produce Golden Kiwi but the conditons weren't ideal and they fruit wasn't ripe and the seeds were grown in poor conditons so they stopped manufacturing them.

As for trade, For some reason NZ doesn't export them, The company zespri is againat selling golden kiwi's and exporting them. I don't know why their tingent on it but their only willing to export to aus and Australia themsleves has formed some sort of pact to never export Golden Kiwi.

Again idkw 2 countries would be so stingient on selling fruit to other countries but Apprantly NZ doesn't want golden kiwi to be sold. Only green.

Isn’t that persimmon? I’ve had em. They are nice. They look like oranges but the taste is more drier but still juicy, and a sweetness with just a touch of bitterness to it if I remember correctly.

Grapefruit I have to say is a mad underrated fruit. Maybe watching Khulja Sim Sim (Urdu dub Sesame Street) growing up in Pak has conditioned me into it because it would be featured to get kids to eat healthy.

Jack Fruit

Never eaten it, all I know is that when it shows up the people from Bangladesh line up and buy it within an hour

Jackfruit is the national fruit of Bangladesh. I used to eat it a lot when I was in BD (before 2006).

Even in Canada, I have the opportunity to eat it during summer. A Sri Lankan seller sells it here. I bought 4-6 jackfruits from him last summer.

There are also canned jackfruits available throughout the year but those aren't as good as fresh jackfruits.

It's popular in India too. It's called 'katahal' in North India. :inti

In Bengali, it is called "kathal".

Jackfruit has many utilities. You can eat it as a fruit. You can also eat the seeds (jackfruit seed mixed with chicken/beef curry, mashed jackfruit seeds etc.).

I have been trying to pick up courage to eat it for many years, so far I am chickening out and never tasted it :)

I never liked the ripe ones, but in WB we used to cook Jackfruit as veggie when it's still tender. We used to call it vegetarian mutton.

Interesting.

The fruit itself is not eaten as a cooked veggie in Bangladesh. Only the seeds get cooked.

Anyway, I enjoy both tender and ripe jackfruits.
