A few worried people at Gaddafi stadium today I would imagine.

Just need to get rid of mafia who are there for ages and never ever touched

Hahaha Bechara Sethi, Teen Saal SK kay neechay dabba raha and when his chance came finally, his master got clean bowled from a vintage IK reverse swinging yorker :yk

Tsk Tsk Tsk Tsk :ashwin

More than Sethi - the culture of entitlement based upon allegiance with a ruling party should also disappear

Plus the PM as patron of PCB should also be removed. This law right here is the root of all evils in Pakistan Cricket. We need to depoliticize this structure from top right up top the regional and zonal levels and Inshallah when PTI will come to power my long last dream of a strong regional cricket tournament would finally materialize.

I hate the current dept run cricket structure that does not allow any regional FC talent to appear through a proper system and our cricket suffers significantly.

Unfortunately he is going nowhere, at least as long as PMLN is still is in the rule.

Why should politicians have power over the PCB anyway?

Why should politicians have power over the PCB anyway?

Very good question.Exactly what I was going to ask here.

I think the fact that this might have been a noble idea, having PM as patron,as I feel the way things pan out in Pakistan(or in subcontinent in general) there is a very high chance of people in PCB working for their own interests and not cricket. So,I think they might have thought of having a check and balance system in the board. But the political affiliation and the power of certain people is such that they appoint the people who don't deserve to be there and that makes is a laughable stock.

Intentions might have been good in drafting this in PCB's constitution(having a watchdog) but the implementation is way off,as is case eith other things as well in PCB.

As I don't have much knowledge about your system,so I want to ask this-how does it work in Australia? Is CA privatised or whatever?

Is there a new election going to happen (for National Assembly), or just Mian Sharif is going to be disqualified & someone else from PMLN going to be the new PM, till next election? Unless current parliament is abolished (in that case an election in next few months), does it change much for Najam Sethi's fate? He was made election time Governor of Punjab - must have lots of friends in PMLN hierarchy.

Also, not sure removing him is the best idea or not - the replacement might be worse, who might start to roll the dice from scratch including PSL and the appointments around PAK team - Arthur, Inzi, Sarfraz...... just in case!!!! If Shahriar was just about 25 years younger, he was the best fit for the job; but don't think if not NS, someone like Mani or Majid is going to be appointed as the popular wish here.

If PML-N are staying in government then I don't think Najam Sethi has anything to worry about.

sethi will be chairman because pmln govt is still in power. sethi saab was on the other end and will not take strike against ik :yk

to be honest sethi has done a good job with cricket so we should not be against his appointment because of his political loyalties

Yes only Nawaz Sharif & Ishaq Dar (Finance Minister) have been disqualified on corruption/graft charges.
PML-N still holds majority. They can nominate any tom, dick or harry to be the next PM.

Mian Sharif is dead. CM Punjab, not governor. nd no, doesn't have that many friends in PML-N.

Thanks - this guy Mian Nawaz Sharif was one bullet away from history in OCT, 1999, probably it's the US & Saudi embassy saved his life. Left to Saudi with family on the edge of his life, for 10 years exile ..... and then again became PM of Pakistan. Our current PM left that Dhanmondi house few months before 15th August 1975, whereas previous PM could have been history in April 1971 - both ended 3 times PM so far. So, you never say dead in politics, until Zanaza is performed :(

Personally, I think there might be corruption in his appointment, but Sethi isn't the worst candidate for Chairman PCB. At least, a forward thinking block, who has the attitude to listen & change, with the academic qualification to qualify for such posts - I actually don't expect PCB chairman to drive the roller to fix PAK's domestic wicket ....... as long as someone knows that the need of that roller and has the attitude to search for the qualified driver, should be enough.

Pakistan’s political scene was jolted on Friday with the decision of disqualification of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif by the Supreme Court, but the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) stayed unaffected.

The PM of the country, by default, is the Patron in Chief of all the sports federations of Pakistan, but PHF Secretary Shahbaz Senior said that Nawaz’s role in the working of the federation was minimal.

“PM’s disqualification won’t affect PHF functions,” said PHF Secretary Shahbaz Senior. “Patron in chief’s only role was to approve finances for tours and camps.”

He added that they always contacted the Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) ministry, if they needed financial assistance. “We are never in direct contact with the PM; The IPC ministry acts as the bridge. So if we have any issues regarding financial grants, we will contact the IPC ministry.”

He further revealed that the PM had provided PHF with a financial grant which is still being used for tours and camps.

Talking about the future of Pakistan Hockey League (PHL), which is scheduled to take place in November and received security clearance from the Pakistan Army recently, Shahbaz said PM had no direct involvement in the process.

“A private company is organising the league and arranging finances through sponsors. So, we are going to function without any impediments,” he said.

The PCB was also thought to be in a fix after Nawaz’s disqualification since Patron named two members, Najam Sethi and Arif Ejaz, to the Board of Governors (BoG) recently, but according to a board official, everything remains the same.

Sethi is set to contest for the coveted PCB chairmanship after current head Shaharyar Khan’s three-year term ends in August.

The PSL chairman is expected to be elected unopposed after the appointment of Justice (rtd) Afzaal Haider as the acting chairman of the PCB, and the latter is also tasked with holding elections within 30 days.

“We have received the notification [of PM’s disqualification],” said the board official. “The nominees for next PCB chairman will remain the same. Nawaz’s disqualification won’t affect these nominees.”

The official further clarified: “PCB takes all decisions through its BoG, while the Patron in Chief approves financial grants, which will now be done by the incoming PM. Meanwhile, the decisions Nawaz has taken will stay.”

Haider’s first task as the Election Commissioner will be to ask for nominations from the selected regions and departments for the chairman’s post. If more than one nominations are received, then elections will be held.

However, there are strong chances that current Executive Committee head Sethi will be elected as the new chairman without any opposition.

Sethi deserves it, his PSL achievements make his PCB chairman case all the more stronger.

The Islamabad High Court admitted for hearing a petition challenging the nomination of Najam Sethi to the Board of Governors of Pakistan Cricket Board.

The IHC issued notices to the respondents in the petition in which the applicant has pointed out that since former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif nominated Sethi and Arif Ejaz as new members of the PCB BoG just before his disqualification by the Supreme Court, his order is null and void.

The petitioner has taken the plea that with Sharif no longer prime minister and patron-inchief of the PCB, no nominations should be made for the BOG.

Sethi is tipped to succeed to Shaharyar Khan as PCB Chairman after the latter completes his three-year tenure on August 8.
Sharif, as patron-in-chief, also appointed a retired judge Afzal Haider as election commissioner of the PCB to hold the elections for the post of chairman.

Under the existing PCB constitution, only members of the BOG can contest the chairman’s election and the 10-member BOG elects the new chairman.

With Khan due to step down on August 8, the IHC has set the next date of hearing for August 10.

Sources in the PCB said that the election commissioner might call a special meeting of the BOG on August 9 to hold the elections but a constitutional problem that would arise is that the Fata region which will have a representative on the new BOG itself is being run by an ad-hoc body appointed by the Board.

Sethi has served as chairman in 2013-14 and stepped down after a long drawn out legal battle in the Supreme Court which had approved a new constitution for the Board under which Shaharyar Khan was elected chairman.
