They should get a fair trial in Germany. If charged their must have been sufficient evidence against them. These Indian spies are getting caught everywhere now. I feel they'll end up banged up in Germany near some Nazi group associated with Hitler!!:D

Indian couple sentenced for spying on Germany's Sikhs, Kashmiris
A married Indian couple living in Moenchengladbach were sentenced by a German court on Thursday after admitting to spying on Sikh and Kashmiri communities for the Indian secret service.

The couple, who are identified only by their first name and initials according to German law, admitted to having passed on information to intelligence services in a trial which began last month.

Manmohan S. was handed a suspended prison sentence of 18 months for acting as a foreign intelligence agent, while his wife Kanwal Jit K. was fined 180 days' wages for aiding him.

According to a court statement, S. was recruited by the Indian foreign intelligence agency Research & Analysis Wing (RAW) at the beginning of 2015, and asked to spy on the Kashmiri opposition movement.

An insurgency against Indian rule has been waged since 1989 in occupied Kashmir, claiming tens of thousands of lives.

“The accused reported on the internal affairs of the Sikh temples in Cologne and Frankfurt, as well as on protest events in the Sikh community,” the statement said.

The 51-year-old was paid 200 euros ($223) a month for the information he provided, and attended regular meetings with an Indian intelligence officer from July 2017.

His 50-year-old wife, to whom the court ascribed financial motives, accompanied him to the meetings.

On top of the suspended sentence, S. was also ordered to pay 1,500 euros to a charitable institution. The couple now have a week to appeal the decision.

German court sentences Indian couple for spying on Kashmiri and Sikh groups

A German court has sentenced an Indian couple after they admitted to spying on Kashmiri and Sikh groups for the Indian foreign intelligence service.

Court documents said the couple, named only as Manmohan S and his wife Kanwal Jit K, were paid more than €7,000 (£6,000) for passing on information.

Manmohan S was given an 18-month suspended prison sentence for espionage while his wife received a hefty fine.

Kashmir is a Himalayan territory disputed by India and Pakistan.

The nuclear-armed rivals have fought two wars over the mountainous region.

India crushed a Sikh insurgency in the 1980s and has remained wary of militancy within the community ever since.

The court in Frankfurt was told that Manmohan S, 51, was recruited by the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), India's main external intelligence agency, in 2015 and asked to spy on Kashmiri opposition groups.

"The accused reported on the internal affairs of the Sikh temples in Cologne and Frankfurt, as well as on protest events in the Sikh community," a court statement said.

He attended regular meetings with an Indian intelligence officer from July 2017 and was paid €200 a month for the information he provided.

Kanwal Jit K, 50, accompanied him to the meetings, the court said.

As well as the suspended sentence, Manmohan S was ordered to a pay €1,500 to a charitable institution. Kanwal Jit K was fined the equivalent of 180 days' wages for helping her husband.

The couple have a week to appeal against the court's decision.

Indian goes on trial for spying on Sikhs, Kashmiris in Germany

FRANKFURT MAIN: An Indian national accused of spying on Sikh and Kashmiri communities in Germany for New Delhi’s secret services went on trial in Frankfurt on Tuesday.

The suspect, identified as 54-year-old Balvir S., is accused of working for the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), India’s foreign intelligence agency, since at least January 2015.

Prosecutors say he “obtained information about figures in the Sikh opposition scene and the Kashmiri movement and their relatives in Germany, and passed this on to his handlers who were working at the Indian consulate general in Frankfurt”.

A total of 10 hearings before the regional superior court are scheduled, with the trial due to conclude on October 29.

The same Frankfurt court convicted an Indian couple of spying on the same communities last December. The husband was handed a suspended prison sentence of 18 months for acting as a foreign intelligence agent and his wife fined 180 days’ wages for aiding him.

India and Pakistan have disputed Kashmir since they became independent in 1947, with the nuclear rivals fighting two out of three wars over the region.

An uprising against Indian occupation has been waged since 1989 in Kashmir, claiming tens of thousands of lives.

Frankfurt is of particular interest to the Indian secret services because western Germany is home to the largest Sikh community in the country, estimated at between 10,000 and 20,000 people, and one of the largest in Europe.

This is disappointing. Why would you spy on Kashmiri people in Germany?

I hope this man gets a long prison sentence.

RAW is the most lethal and effective Indian service. They have given us many headaches and the only time they were overpowered were during Zia and his boys 'Hamid Gul', 'Asad Durrani's' tenure.

We need a proper mard-e-momin again to deal with them.

One reason why you might feel RAW was useless during Zia's regime because Moraji Desai, the same same guy that received Nishan-e-Pakistan :P eventhough his rule was hardly 2 years

Desai is considered among India’s most controversial leaders because of his decision to “weaken” the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), the country’s external intelligence agency.
