Good move for Azam Khan to move out of the shadow of his father at Quetta Gladiators?

So Azam Khan moves out of Quetta for Islamabad - could this help him grow as a player without his father always watching and possibly interfering in his development?

Good decision.

Under the influence of uniteds youth around him it can add the wings needed for his career. Perfect to take over Asif slots at 6 and allow him to go higher up.

1 Alex Hales
2 Colin Munro
3 Shadab (C)
4 Hussain
5 Asif Ali
6 Azam (wk)
7 Faheem
8 Hassan
9 Zadar Gohar
10 Musa Khan
11 Rumman ?

Seems perfect to me with Azhar as coach. Title contenders

The only good move we can talk about for Azam Khan will be to shed about 30kgs. It's a joke that this guy is otherwise so relevant in Pak cricket.

I agree. Never ever in the history of the game has an international player succeeded with that amount of body fat. Odds are against him to do well.

omg, Islamabad gave away Iftikhar???????? Whatt/?? and they got Azam Khan in return????

How does this trade even work.... This is nonsense... Utter Nonsense. Azam Khan for Iftikhar Ahmad?????

This is like trading Umar Gul for Ashok Dinda......

Yup, i am done with Islamabad United and PSL. Just shows that franchise sports is not the cup of tea of South Asia. In North American sports you get the same value in return, you dont give away assets for less....

Anyways, as for Azam Khan and Moin Khan this was a great move.

Moin Khan was in dilemma. He has supported Sarfraz Ahmad all his life and than there was his son, who is an upcoming wicket keeper. Moin wanted his son to keep wickets and he was really pressing for Sarfraz to be shifted but Nadeem gave him the shut up call.

Thus, it was better to let Azam Khan move. Why couldn't he be shifted to Lahore?? WHY??? :'( . I am so gutted right now.

Rehan Ul haq and Hassan Cheema have made the 2nd most pathetic decision after overlooking Rashid Khan in the last draft aswell..

I wanted to see one of Abdullah, Haider, or Azam in United, but this trade works in Quetta's favor. I would have preferred if they traded someone like Talat or Faheem for him.

Hope we get Abdullah or Ali Imran, if not both.

According to report, Moin Khan wanted his son to be the 'keeper but that could not happen in Sarfaraz Ahmed's presence so good move for Azam.

Make or break move for him.

He has the chance to prove his critics wrong and those who say he only gets picked due to his father being Head Coach.

By moving to a new team, he shouldn't get any favouritism and should in theory only be selected if he performs.

If he doesn't perform, then the days of being an automatic pick should be long gone.

Shocking decision. Iftikhar would be one of the first on my team sheet in the PSL. And we've traded him for a guy who can even understand the meaning of fitness..not happy with this..

Pretty abysmal from IU that they decided to settle for Azam.

Don't think Azam is going to be playing many matches this season.

Disgusting, Moin should stop this nepotism

Its frankly embarassing hes going to this lengths

I feel like he has already proved to be a pretty talented cricketer for T20's. Still needs to improve but certainly not a parchi. Remains to be seen if he can be more than that and if he can be fit enough to stay as a wicketkeeper.

Pretty talented cricketer who has probably lt done well in only 4-5 out of 20 PSL innings

With such talented players around who needs to worry?

I’m absolutely loving the hypocrisy from posters on this thread who troll Umar Akmal for being overweight, but have no issues with someone being obese.👀

I have no issues with Azam Khan, I think he should be in the starting xi for Islamabad United, but only pointing out the hypocrisy.

He is still pretty young & new. SR of 140+ in his T20 career which is pretty great.

Talented doesn't mean perfect or a finish product but he is clearly someone who has shown the ability to play some nice shots and hit big sixes. Next step will be building on that and playing longer innings.

Yeah, let's select players on SR instead. I am sure his 6 off 2 balls would be a great contribution.

He's only here because of his father, he's been pretty bang average. Little more to it than that. No real domestic seasons behind him either.

Apparently another trade is coming up from IU. Let's see if they already trade Azam Khan to some other team. :D

Strategic decision by Moin. Sarfraz has no future in LOIs and there is an opening for Azam to establish himself as the permanent backup to Rizwan for the next few years.

Him playing as a specialist batsman for QG with Sarfraz donning the gloves doesn’t help his cause at all.

I don;t think Azam should have a future in Pakistan team , unless he really becomes fitter and shows some commitment and professional attitude . Its embarrassing such an unfit player wearing national jersey.

When you are an automatic pick and daddy is the head coach you can become complacent.

Now he is just another player, it should be extra motivation for him and who knows may have a positive impact on his batting and overall game.

Needs to lose weight before anything. When he was on tour with us to England it was a complete joke, made our team an easy target for mockery. No athlete in any sport, Sumo accepted, should be in that shape.

His T20 career numbers are pretty similar to Asif Ali so far and Azam Khan is much younger and far less experienced.

I get it, he is fat and received more exposure than he may without his dad and people just want to write him off already but he does have potential to be a good T20 batter. He deserves a chance and if he can get his fitness to an acceptable level, Pakistan may have a decent T20 batsmen that can help fix their middle order problems.

His numbers are dire. That's really the main thing. You see talent I see nothing. And his numbers back my view up unless you can offer something concrete in stats or facts. He's as eligible to play as me or you. The only difference is we don't have our father in cricket.

Dont you find it hilarious how immature our draft trades are and how bad our league running style is?

Moin Khan was desperate to get Azam to a team that had no keeper like Lahore and Islamabad. Islamabad could had easily asked them for draft picks but they didnt. They got an A class batsmen easily.

Than the Multan trade aswell. Multan gave away two players and didnt even ask anything back. They could had askeed for some draft picks aswell.

Such kind of trades would never take place in proper sports leagues of North America

Any cricketer who is obese is not worth talking about. I don't care how talented he is.

Hard work is required to perform at the highest level. If Azam did any hard work at all, he wouldn't be obese.

I take my words back... Iftikhar has sucked and azam has done really well. Todat when we didnt ahve our main players, this guy decided to show up and fill in the shoes

Wicket keeping by Azam has boosted his confidence. He is in a side filled with match winners. Plus the team he is now in a team which is following a ruthless aggressive and positive approach with the bat which further suits his game. It was a good decision by him to move to IU.

Great Innings today. The lad relies on timing as well as power-hitting, great striker.

But he is still unfit

Good to see that your taking your words back :)

I wonder if we are seeing the return of the overweight cricketer.

There have been a few bigger guys putting in good performances around the world recently.

Whereas in the last couple of decades it has all been about fitness, more and better fitness, and a race to be the fittest of all; and at the highest level to be too heavy by even 10-15kg would make one unselectable.

We could however now be returning to a time when it was ok to need a bigger shirt size than everyone else, eat cheeseburgers and biryanis every day, and not go to the gym — and even get run out during a match occasionally — as long as a player is scoring plenty of runs and/or taking lots of wickets.

Give me 8 games, i will also possibly play one good knock with a little bit of luck.

He is far too overweight to the point of neglect. He should spend 2 years out of the game and train his body and develop his mind to stop over eating.

The great finisher has been poor this season

Azam, Khushdil and Umar all overtaking him

Horrible keeping just now for Islamabad. He is a slob. Too overweight so he cant get down quickly enough. How can a professional cricketer look this out of shape? Does he have no shame?

It will take time for him to lose weight.

I don't blame him too much. It's more shameful that his father let him get to this stage.

Surely as a former pro cricketer Moin should have had better control of his kids diet.

Also he didn't move out of his father's shadow or anything noble at all. Its just that there is no way he was going to play with sarfaraz as WK in the team. He can't play as a full batsman as his fielding would be hilarious and he only ever scores once or twice every 6 innings

Shal we have Babar and Rizwan batting from 1-6

That's your opinion and I respect that :)

Id just rather not have a 1 in 6 innings type of player who is 4-5 stone overweight on top of it all

calm down, its his first misfield as a keeper during this tournament

Shouldn't take time at all. Guy does so much running squatting in the game along with hours of daily training during PSL. Not to mention the constant standing running squatting and training in the domestic season. For him to not lose any weight at all despite all the above means he must be consuming unholy amounts of food.

Could he have an undiagnosed medical condition?

agreed. pretty crazy that his dad has let him get into shape like this!

However, I blame him just as much...does he have no personal pride? Is he really happy to appear on national television with that obese body composition? I cant understand it!

nah. not the first but definitely the first seriously ugly and glaring mistake that even an amateur keeper wouldn't make unless they were an equally overweight slob like Azam. Get this guy off my TV ASAP!

it was his first mistake. I have watched all his games for IU.

He is playing very well and i would want him to continue playing as an Isb fan

Theres a massive psychological aspect to weight loss. It will take time to undo a lot of the conditioning and triggers that make him turn to food.

He also mentioned in an interview that he wants to lose weight without losing muscle and his weight lose will therefore be slow.

I personally think its a weak excuse but if he is doing this in consultation with trained dieticians then lets wait and see.

If there is no change by the next PSL then its clear he doesnt care.

Azam out again. 10 off 14. Horrible batsman. Preemptively coming out of the crease and trying to hit the ball with his eyes closed as usual.

If he wasnt so fat, maybe he could have got to where the ball pitched quicker instead of being in no mans land and missing. LOL :))

8 off 18 today against Multan. Under 50 SR. This overweight slob does not deserve to be playing for a PSL team. Get him back in to domestic. Produ t of memoriam and fast food. lol.

Rather than getting fitter, Azam is putting on more weight , in near future , he will be good enough only for club cricket. He has class 3 obesity which is a serious medical condition and needs treatment, can lead to serious medical issues after turning 30.

Even the tailenenders have performed better than this slob. Musa is 11 off 13 right now :)).

I'm still confused why he has such a large fanbase. What does he have to offer that makes so many people defend him?

This obese slob is the best we are producing in the country unfortunately.. I know he’s shocking but even the rest aren’t any better to be honest

Another amazing performance

He only does well once every few innings.

With people like Haris also doing really well this guy with pathetic fitness shouldn't be anywhere near our NT. Never mind PSL

barely a good stumping. bread and butter stuff for even an amateur keeper. its like saying GOOD GOAL to a footballer who scored a tap in.

nope, it was a good stumping. Easy to talk on a pc, for a keeper, the batsmen blocks the view so stumping isnt as easy as you might think

That was as easy it gets. Stop making it out as if it was different. He is an awful keeper and if you are taking about his standard yes it was difficult.

Never a good stumping. There isnt a keeper in even the associate nations that is missing that. The batsman was miles outside his crease too so even Big Mac Azam had plenty of time to see the ball. I know you're clutching at straws after another abysmal batting performance but you should do better :))

Stop assuming everything...

I hated the fact that we got azam khan, but when he is doing well as a keeper and has been okish as a batamen, why do you expect i critisize him just for the sake of it.

Its domestic cricket, plus he hasnt been bad as a keeper

Oh bhai, i have been his big critic, but as a keeper he has done nothing weong that warrants criticism. He has been good behind the stumps and hasnt cost islamabad that many.

The stumping he did was good. Again, a keepers view gets blocked thus gathering the ball is itself not am easy process.

I have hated azam khan, but when he hasnt done anything bad as a keeper, there is no reason to bash him.

he should now he cant run a risky single, so should hales tbh- should have shouted no

he played well. Did much better than iftikhar ahmed so the trade was a win for us..

Being a finisher isnt his job, he does well playing as a middle order batsmen. Well played Azam, the talent is there but he cant play international cricket with the fitness. I can support him in domestic but not in international

Good to see that Azam tried to stay at the creese instead of hitting every ball out the park.

He is a liability running between the wickets. In todays standards being a good hitter is not good enough.

Good tournament overall for him. Getting better with consistency. Needs to improve fitness more to be able to take more quick singles doubles etc. Still not ready for international. Should play full domestic seasons.

The odd thing in that scorecard they needed just 44 from 39 and still lost. I understand the brand of cricket they want to play but that doesn't mean you lose from such position some real brainless batting by last 4 to 5 wickets could have easily finished in singles doubles and just an odd boundary.
