He was one of the best chapter in our cricket history, he is our legend,he was our captain, will remain so for ever. He inspired a whole generation of cricketers, he took our cricket to a new level, he installed self belief in the mind of our cricketers. Good bye our captain.

Good bye skipper - one of the stalwarts of Bangladesh cricket. He will be remembered like Lala Amarnath, AH Kardar, Bandula Warnapura in our cricket history.

He should've retired after the World Cup.

Let's hope that he doesn't play any more game. He is finished.

All the best to him.

I remember a few of his spells when he still had pace . . his zip, seam movement, rhythmical action were all great to watch! In my opinion, best and most skillful fast bowler to have come out of Bangladesh . .

As a captain, he clearly inspired his team and cricket in Bangladesh in general. Bangladesh has definitely taken a few steps towards becoming a better, stronger and more professional team under his captaincy . .

Not sure if he is going to play much longer (given fitness issues) and for how much, but would love to see him get to 300 ODI wickets. He would deserve it!

An inspirational figure who put his body on the line time and again. His knees are shot after years of graft but his contributions, even if they waned in his later years, won't be forgotten by all fans.

All the best to Mashrafe.

Impressive leader who played a big role in the progress of BD cricket. He set higher bars for his team and changed the overall culture especially in the ODI format.

An amazing leader who inspired us to become a competitive team. He was also a talented bowler who if not for injury could have been had a great bowling career but sadly was not be.

One of the great Bangladeshi cricketers. Quite enjoyed his effort.

I did think at one point him,Rubel,Taskin and Mustafizur could make a very very strong ODI pace lineup which could be competitive everywhere in the world. Didn’t work that way unfortunately. I think all of them had the talent to be Umar Gul level bowlers.

After clinching his 50th win in his final ODI as captain, Bangladesh all-rounder Mashrafe Mortaza expressed satisfaction in being able to end his groundbreaking stint successfully.

Bangladesh picked up a 123-run win via the DLS method in the rain-hit third ODI against Zimbabwe on Friday, 6 March, to complete a 3-0 rout. For Mortaza, who announced his decision to relinquish the captaincy ahead of the game, it was a moment of relief as well as emotion.

''One responsibility has lessened. It was a huge responsibility. Some feel bad, some feel good, I have a mixed feeling [on giving up the captaincy],” he said. “But I feel good that I could complete in a good position as captain. And finishing with a win makes me feels good.”

It’s not known yet if stepping down from the captaincy would also translate to the end of the road for Mortaza as a player. But with the Bangladesh Cricket Board having made it clear that the veteran will have to prove his form and fitness to be considered for selection, and with him being on the wrong side of 30, there is a sense of uncertainty around his future.

''I cannot say anything about selection,” he said, “but you have to perform as a captain. And captaincy is a huge pressure, especially in international cricket.”

Mortaza finishes up as Bangladesh’s most successful ODI captain ever by a distance, with his 50 wins putting him 21 ahead of the next best Habibul Bashar, while his win/loss ratio of 58.13 is over 11 better than that of Shakib Al Hasan.

One responsibility has lessened. It was a huge responsibility. Some feel bad, some feel good, I have a mixed feeling [on giving up the captaincy]

Reflecting on his biggest challenges as a leader, Mortaza said: ''I don't think there is much to do on the field, but off the field there are so many things to do with the players.

''I think they get disturbed by so many things. It could be from their family side, something might be popping up that they might not want to see. Personal problems. [Being] out form, not able to adjust with the coach, fitness issue. It varies.

"So it's a captain's responsibility to support him and also take the responsibility of the team. No matter how bad they play. I have seen many cricketers who could not perform because they were focusing entirely on their captaincy rather than giving focus to their game.”

He should have retired before the world cup or after the world cup, because of his selfishness he cost us a couple of matches. He still hasn't retired, I don't know what he wants to accomplish. He is a MP now and should focus on making Bangladesh great again.

Mashrafe Mortaza and Shakib al Hasan have been dropped from the new central contract list announced by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) in three different categories.

The BCB, during a meeting of the Board of Directors on Sunday, finalized a list of 16 players to be included in the national payroll, but only seven of them were offered a contract for both red and white ball cricket which will end on December 31 this year.

The decision to exclude the duo was on expected lines as Mashrafe announced his retirement from ODI captaincy and not to be considered as a regular member of the Bangladesh team while all-rounder Shakib is not considered for fresh contract as he is now facing a two-year ban imposed by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for not reporting corrupt approaches.

The ban on Shakib ends on October 29, 2020, which could also mean that he won’t be able to take part in the T20 World Cup, which starts on October 18.

Along with Mashrafe and Shakib, Imrul Kayes, Abu Hider Rony, Syed Khaled Ahmed, Rubel Hossain and Shadman Islam have also been axed from the previous contract.

Meanwhile, batsman Mahmudullah and pacer Mustafizur Rahman have been axed from the Test contract list and handed only a partial contract for white-ball cricket.

Newly-appointed ODI captain Tamim Iqbal, batsmen Liton Das, Nazmul Hossain, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mohammad Mithun and spinners Taijul Islam and Mehidy Hasan were the seven players who got a contract for all formats.

Mominul Haque, who leads the side in Test cricket, spinner Nayeem Hasan, pacers Abu Jayed and Ebadot Hossain were given a contract only for red-ball cricket, while Mahmudullah, Mohammad Saifuddin, Mustafizur Rahman, Afif Hossain and Mohamamd Naim were given contracts only for ODIs.

Always liked this guy and his tiger attitude.

Despite his injuries he gave everything for BD.

A leader who led from front, as it should be.

Former Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza tests COVID-19 positive for second time

Bangladesh's former limited-overs captain Mashrafe Mortaza has once again been tested positive for the COVID-19 infection. The 36-year-old, who is yet to announce his retirement from international cricket, was tested positive for the second time in the span of 15 days as he continues to recover from the illness at his residence in Dhaka. Earlier, on 20 June, Mortaza had revealed via a Facebook post that he was tested Covid-19 positive and had initiated the recovery process since then.

On Saturday (July 04), Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief physician Debashish Chowdhury confirmed the news and assured that there is still 'no reason to panic.' The physician stated that the veteran cricketer will undergo another test on July 08 and hope to be clear from the virus by then. "In most cases, the patient is cleared by 14 days but that is not mandatory. Someone might take more time," he stated further.

Mortaza became the second cricketer from Bangladesh -- after Nafees Iqbal -- to test positive for the deadly virus, which was originated in China and has wreaked havoc across the world since then. Plenty of political meets and sporting events have come to a standstill, been either cancelled or postponed to a later date since the advent of the virus.

Not only Mortaza, but plenty of other known international stars have also tested positive for the virus in the recent past. There have been many from the Pakistan cricket fraternity who have tested positive and even recovered. The likes of Shadab Khan, Haris Rauf, Haider Ali, Mohammad Hafeez, Fakhar Zaman, Wahab Riaz and 4 others had tested positive for the virus ahead of the Men in Green's departure for the tour of England in August-September.

While the majority of them have now recovered and set to join the national squad in England, the ardent fans of Bangladesh cricket will also hope and pray for the speedy recovery of Mortaza. The experienced player remains one of the icons of Bangladesh cricket, who has been responsible for the national side's exceptional rise in limited-overs.

Former Bangladesh skipper Mashrafe Mortaza has recovered from COVID-19 after treatment at home for the dreaded virus since June 20.

“Hope everyone is fine. By the grace of God and blessing of everyone, I have tested negative for coronavirus. I am thankful to everyone who stood by me and showed concern in this tough times,” he said.

“I recovered from the virus after being treated at home. To those who are affected, stay positive. Keep faith in Allah and abide by the rules. Together we will keep fighting the virus,” added the 36-year-old pacer.

Mashrafe in nets, confident of being fit for BPL

Former Bangladesh captain Mashrafe bin Mortaza is confident of getting back to fitness ahead of the special edition of the Bangladesh Premier League Twenty20.

Mashrafe was picked by team Dhaka from the players’ draft last month.

The team, being managed by Bangladesh Cricket Board, will also feature Bangladesh ODI captain Tamim Iqbal and T20I skipper Mahmudullah. The six-team tournament is set to begin on January 21.

Right-arm pacer Mashrafe, coming out from a long break, took to the nets at the BCB Academy at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium Thursday.

The veteran pacer informed that he is nursing back pain but will be fine ahead of the franchise-based T20 tournament.“I didn’t bowl with full intensity. Took small run-ups to understand my situation at the moment so it will not be wise to comment on my fitness. I am under rehabilitation and hopefully I will start bowling in full run-up from next week. It will not take long for me to find the fitness back,” said Mashrafe to the media.

Mashrafe was seen in the nets for the first time since September last year.

The veteran pacer has retired from Test and T20I and is currently not in consideration for the Bangladesh ODI setup. He was last seen in competitive cricket during the Bangabandhu T20 League in December 2020.

The veteran cricketer now keeps himself busy with his political career as member of the parliament.

There was speculation whether the cricketer would participate in the one-day version of the ongoing Bangladesh Cricket League, scheduled to begin Sunday.Mashrafe however, has partially ruled out his participation.

“I am yet to decide on that [playing BCL one-day version]. I am carrying back pain and have come to the nets after a long time. Will need some time to get to fitness. There is BPL [later this month] so I am taking my time and a lot depends on the back pain to be honest. I was supposed to play BCL but I am not being able to confirm that at the moment,” he explained.
