Finally got my Newbery Thruxton SPS yesterday. Atleast 13 straight grains with a 'butterfly' (as they call it)

... Just started knocking it with hammer; and boy I can feel the ping it generates already; it's only upwards from here ... I can already see the ball flying like a rocket :D

Will spend good amount of knocking before taking it to the nets ... here are some shots of it:

Not bad but I would have expected better from Asad Bhai and SPS really. Or maybe I have high expectations but seeing earlier SPS bought from Asad Bhai and even Players they look very good. If you ask me the bat shape is brilliant and selection is brilliant too but I am somewhat disappointed really. You paid top dollar and I think you should have gotten something much better than this.

It has Hammer Edge treatment so it won't need knocking but since you have knocked it bit then I'd say thats bonus.

HOw is the pickup/balance on this?

bat has too much wavy red wood (cant see the grains in teh red as well) for a top grade bat.

How much is this bat worth?

a clubmember in my team has that bat !!! here is picture of him after making 100 runs in a T20 match!!!

Could check the photo you referred (content not available on the link it says, will try later) ... Hopefully will touch 100 soon :) ... but as they say, its not the equipment its the person behind it; so hoping that I'll get some advantage with this new eqipment :D

It’s my first Newbery bat so really don't have any reference to what I got; plus my 1st experience to buy a bat remotely, without actually feeling the bat (or making a choice/comparison) wasn't the option obviously, so I put my faith ahead; but I am hoping that power beast is lying underneath there; I guess the time would tell ... I hope Asad Bhai would comment here !

Shape & Pickup is brilliant, no questions here. Will try to add another light grip to see how it feels. I know Hammer Edge doesn't need knocking, but I always spend good amount of time knocking my new bat ... it’s boring & painful work as you know but it’s so worth it

Too much red would could easily be caused by my Photoshop skills :) ... I took photos in quite hurry & didn't bother to spend much attention on them. But in reality it seems fine (at least to me; another friend looked at the bat too, he was very happy too). It cost me £250 + international shipment

I don't select my bats on the looks as my main criteria is pick up(balance) and ping of the bat and then grains. This bat actually came directly from Tim Keeley and lets see How it performs. I have bats which have over 20 grains but performance is average but at the end of the day everyone has their own criteria when chosing the bats

Asad

^^ I completely agree with you Asad bhai!
While selecting a bat my first choice is also pick up and balance

Asad bhai also picked out my Thruxton SPS and it is by far the best bat i've ever used. If you look at the older threads you can see it.

Asad Bhai,

I have seen lots of SPS and Players bats you have sold and they have been impressive asthecially. However, my point is that when you pay top dollar you need a bat to be good in all three facets (such as pinck/balance, ping, comestically etc)

Salam Uzair bhai,

Funny you asked this question the same day I actually used it 1st time in the nets :)

Even though its Hammer Edge but I still knocked it a bit; must say the mallet ping was wow ... took it to nets; the ball just goes like a rocket when middled, especially on fast bowlers. Balance is amazing; hardly feel the weight (dead weight is 2.8lbz btw); I added an extra grip which makes the balance even better for me

I do feel the difference of middle compare to my CA12000 TRD (which is quite normal). My CA12000 is a bulldozer; which just doesn’t give any mercy to ball even if not middled; but its bit heavy 2.9lbz (as per sticker) but it has slow bat speed, whereas Thruxton just arrives so elegantly to the ball that it actually surprises the ball & me :)

I am just getting used to the Thruxton ... I am sure it has lot more to offer. I have nets today, Wednesday & Thursday … and match on Saturday. Will keep you posted on Mr. Thruxton :)

Sorry for not being so active on forums; been too busy lately

MashAllah thats great to hear really!

Keep us updated how it goes whenever you can, which balls do you guys use in UAE?

Just came back from today's nets session ... I am getting the feeling that sweet spot is slightly lower on Thruxton vs CA12000 TRD ... but I am loving the oval handle

Balls which we get locally are of not so high quality; we can only get CA ones from AJ Sports in Dubai ... but generally guys bring them from Pakistan. In fact yesterday I met a guy at nets; he brought balls from UK; and they were of really good quality

Had another good net session yesterday … I am quite to used to the bat now; Thurxton is coming alive very rapidly :D

I was absolutely ruthless to a very fast bowler (he bowls around 85 – 88 mph). Hit some crisp straight drives … and boy anything which landed on the sweet spot, literally went like a rocket :)

Thats great to hear Kashif Bhai! I'm glad it is going well for you! I hope you score tons of runs with it!

Despite I have Krakatoa from Newbery but I still think and believe Thruxton is better than it and I like Thruxton more than that!

Whats the progress on Screaming Cat? :D

I was quite surprised when you said you will opt out for Series 2.

THats good to hear, you don't want to use your Newbery against cheap balls, they will damage and break the bat.

Progress on SC is great actually ... I was just on the phone with Julian (again); he'z going to start making my bat on Saturday.

Not sure; is there anything wrong with Series 2? Anyway I had quite a detailed discussion with Julian; basically he has free hand to on shape as long as its meeting my requirements. He is going to customize the shape anyway for my bat.

I wish we had better balls here ... but no issues; I am going to keep on playing my shots :D

There is nothing really wrong with it but I have seen 95% of people either going with Series 1 because that is biggest bat according to Julian or Series 3.

But everyone have different taste, as long you are happy it doesn't really matter.

Do you mind if I ask which one did you opt out for? Professional?

Hmmmmm interesting .... Light pickup is also important so I had to make a bit of compromise somewhere. Anyways Julian should be quite clear after detailed discussions so hopefully would be a great piece of willio :)

I went for Professional option ... I thought if I am going for SC, then why not go wild :D
