Number of wickets falling in a day or number of runs scored in a day in isolation can't be used to judge a wicket.

This Lords wicket's criticism in my opinion is its comparatively slow and sticky nature on the first day. That along with the clouds, usual nature of Eng wickets and dukes ball amplified the chaos on the day 1.

When some Indian wickets are criticized that is completely to do with the nature of the wickets with the ball spinning off the dust and sometimes from day one. That comes under the creation of the wickets which can be controlled. If a wicket has good pace, even bounce, but of spin, bit of seam, it will be considered a good wicket. Exaggeration of spin, uneven bounce is questionable.

English wickets other than the day where everything goes against the batsmen offer good contest between bat and ball for most teams.

Ahmedabad wicket that we rolled out for England was poor. It was turning square from ball 1. Why cant we accept it and move on rather than doing whataboutery?

Indians phir ro rahe hey :in

17 wickets had nothing to do with pitch. It cerrainly wasnt doctored like Indian pitched. It has to do with overall dip in quality of test batsmanship these days. Plus the fact that ball tends to do a lot more in may and early june in England. We'll see much better batting conditions as the season progresses

Excellent point

Joe Root's 5 for 8 was down to his legendary skills as an off-spinner I'm sure; 45 wickets at an average of around 50 confirms, in 117 tests no less.

That might even have been on Day 2? I wanted to suggest Day 1, as I know tests were over in like 3 days or something... but couldn't be certain.

Its different following the game on cricinfo than watching it.

Both sides pretty much got themselves out. There wasn't much in the wicket.

While this minnow mentality of feeling overpowered is not right, what is important to understand is that the logic of equal balance between bat and ball doesn't really work always. This test didn't had that and so in a same way, the Indian pitches when the turners are produced must not be criticised. Just play the game and look to prove your worth rather than accusing about the pitches. Applies both ways.

No balance because the batsmen are rubbish is different to artificially creating imbalance by manipulating pitches.

What manipulating pitches? It is a normal behaviour in India. Now pink ball travelling faster for spinners than expected is a behaviour of the pink ball. The suggestions that pitches get doctored in India to make it easier for spinners is even more horrible as the suggestion that the pitches in South Africa, New Zealand and England are non conducive to batsman with swing and seam from duke ball, uneven bounce that you get in South Africa and green pitches in New Zealand.

Doctored pitches. Home town bullies. Cant play overseas. BCCI. BIG3( or should we say BIG2 after Aus tour).
Rinse. Repeat. On loop. Same old treadmill.

Haven't been watching but I'd assume it has more due to our players coming back from IPL or not having played much Test cricket in tricky conditions in a while.

England are England.

Victim mentality. There are no gremlins in this pitch. Not even great bowling. Just very poor batting
