I was reading his profile and in it, Scyld Berry claims that 'The Little Master' was "probably the originator of the reverse-sweep". This explains why we see so many Pakistani batsmen playing this shot and playing it so well!

It would be fun knowing who were the originators of the other shots we see modern-cricketers playing so if you have any such information, feel free to share.

Maharaja Ranjitsinhji invented the leg glance, he played for England and Sussex.
 
I think the origin of most shots can be traced back to WG grace

A lot of this initiative shots were probably around when cricket was first made, it just now they are getting
