إِنَّا للهِ وَإِنَّـا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعونَ

The great man has sadly passed away at the age of 81.

He scored 3915 runs for Pakistan at an average of 44, and still holds the record for the highest score by a Pakistani (337) which was also the longest ever innings in the history of Test cricket.

His highest FC score of 499 is second only to Brian Lara's 501*.

Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilaihi Rajioon. This man will be missed. He set an example for Pakistan cricket that was sorely needed. May he be given residence in Jannat-al-Firdaus alongside the Prophet (S.A.W.).

The Wall That Would Not Let Up !!

RIP Champ - May Allah Grant You Jannah !!

Inna Lillahi wa inna elayhi rajiun.

A true great of the game has left us :(

Legend passes away RIP little master!

His name will always be the standard when anyone talks about batting and pakistan

Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilayhi Rajioon.

May Allah grant his family strength in their time of difficulty.

There was lot of confusion on media today because of unconfirmed reports. Here is what Sachin posted half hour ago i guess he also saw a different news.

There were some reports earlier in the day that he passed away, but apparently his heartbeat had stopped and was later revived.

However, the recent news from AKU is that he has, indeed, passed away.

Hanif's legend shall live forever, says PCB Chairman

Lahore – August 11, 2016: Chairman PCB Shaharyar Mohammad Khan, Chairman Executive Committee Najam Sethi and COO Subhan Ahmad have offered their heartfelt condolences to the Mohammad family, through Hanif Mohammad's son Shoaib Mohammad, on the sad demise of the legendary Little Master after protracted illness caused by cancer.

"The entire cricketing fraternity, in this country and all over the cricketing world, is in mourning over the sad demise of Hanif Mohammad. His legend shall live forever", said the PCB Chairman.

"I join the Mohammad Family in mourning over the loss of one of the greatest cricketing heroes that this country has produced. His sublime technical skill, his unflappable temperament and his resolve and staying power in all conditions were most remarkable and won plaudits for him and for Pakistan.

"May the Almighty bless his soul", said Shaharyar Khan.

Hanif was a veteran of 55 Tests and played the longest innings in Test history - his 970-minute 337 against West Indies in Bridgetown in 1957-58 still remaining unsurpassed.

Najam Sethi, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Pakistan Cricket Board said: “Pakistan has lost a cricketing hero today. Hanif was a true great of the game, one of the greatest batsmen in test history and a wonderful person. He will be sadly missed.”

"The entire PCB family expresses its deepest sorrow and sympathies to the Mohammad family, through Hanif's eldest son Shoaib Mohammad, on the great legend's passing away.

"May the soul of the departed rest in eternal peace. The prayers and wishes of everyone at the PCB are with Shoaib Mohammad and the entire Mohammad family. May Allah give them all the strength and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss", said PCB COO Subhan Ahmad.

RIP. The Little Master will be missed. One of the greatest batsmen we've ever had.

Condolences. The original Lil Master will be remembered for his exploits and humble nature.

Rest In Peace.

RIP Hanif Mohammed. Another member of cricket's golden generation has left us. He will be missed.

The men of Hanif's era played with real passion and their love for the game was unparalleled. They used minimum protection and maximized the role of technique. Above all, they were paid very less and so they weren't in it for the money.

All rather unlike the helmetted, padded, protected and overpaid clowns of today.

إِنَّا للهِ وَإِنَّـا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعونَ
may god bless him with the best of the heavens

Btw is it there any reason why he didn't go for 500? his highest fc score was 499*.

Inna lillah he wa inna ilaihe raji'un

A salute to the original little master. Thank you for your services to Pakistan cricket. You will not be forgotten as long as Pakistan cricket lives

Absolute legend.

إِنَّا للهِ وَإِنَّـا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعونَ

Probably the first ever legend of the game that emerged from Pakistan

RIP

first memory of cricket is going back to 1958 at karachi stadium of hanif playing a forward defensive stroke to the great WI bowler Wes Hall, running in from the boundary with shirt wide open and his gold chain flying shining in the in the air.It was awesome, the memory still remains.Just got hooked to cricket after that. That defensive prod saved Pak many a test. One of the all time greats.God bless.

Rest In Piece!!! - He was one of the best opener Pakistan has ever product. Maybe one of the best blocker cricket has ever seen... His 300 against WI was probably one of the longest innings and in circumstances will be remember as long as test cricket is played!!!

RIP sir.

Had the chance to meet his grandchildren a month ago. May have gotten run out at 499, but made it to 500 anyway after inspiring the next batting generation after him.

A cricketing legend, not just a Pak one.

Farewell to the original little master.

Inna Lillah e Wa inna eleh e rajeoon.

Hanif Mohammad is like a legend that I was never able to see but listened about from my elders. My father is a big big fan and always told be about his heroics his long innings and stories about him..Hanif Mohammad is like batman of Pakistan cricket.

Felt always close to him also for the reason that my grandma was one of the doctor present long long ago when he had a heart attack and was given Electrical cardio-version. His heart restarted on third attempt and he lived a long and healthy life afterwards.

Today Pakistan lost its real God Father may his soul rest in peace.

Fazal, Kardar & Hanif all the first 3 heroes of Pakistan cricket are no more with us :(

A historical photo of Fazal, Kardar & Hanif at Lucknow University back in 1952. Pakistan won the Lucknow Test and that was our second Test as a nation after getting the Test status. Fazal got 12 wickets for 92 runs.

‘Little Master’ Hanif Mohammad laid to rest in Karachi

KARACHI: Legendary Pakistani cricketer Hanif Mohammad aka 'Little Master' was laid to rest on Friday in Karachi.

Hanif Mohammad's funeral prayers were offered today, which were led by Mufti Taqi Usmani at Nomani Masjid, Al-hilal Society.

The prayers were also attended by Saeed Ghani, Jahangir Khan and Zaheer Abbas.

Later on, the legendary cricketer was laid to rest at PECHS society graveyard.

The former Test cricketer and also player of the world's longest Test innings, had lost a prolonged battle with cancer on Thursday.

The legendary cricketer had been facing health complications and undergoing treatment for lung cancer, doctors at the Aga Khan hospital had informed.

The cricket legend, nicknamed "Little Master" played the longest innings in Test history — his 970-minute 337 against West Indies in Bridgetown in 1957-58. The knock was followed a year later with the highest first-class innings to that point, 499 run out.

Hanif was known for his defensive batting but could attack when the situation called for it, and many claim he is the originator of the reverse-sweep.

The 81-year-old was famous for his dogged batting in Pakistan's nascent years in international cricket, having opened as a schoolboy for the country´s first Test against India in Delhi in 1952.

In January 2009, Hanif was named along with two other Pakistani players — Imran Khan and Javed Miandad — among the inaugural batch of 55 inductees into the ICC’s Hall of Fame.

Former Pakistan captain and legendary batsman Zaheer Abbas has expressed deep sorrow and grief at the sad demise of ‘Little Master’ Hanif Mohammad.

According to local media reports, the former International Cricket Council (ICC) president said: "Hanif Mohammad was the greatest cricketer Pakistan has ever produced and his performances will be remembered for times to come."

He was the source of inspiration for me and I am forever grateful to him for his help and encouragement during my career."

The ‘Asian Bradman’ further said, "Hanif used to say that I can break his records," adding that the batting great was the first person to suggest him to bat at one-down position during Pakistan's tour of England in 1971.

"He was a cricketing genius and helped every Pakistani batter when during his poor form. His 337-run knock against West Indies will remain to be one of the greatest knocks in cricket's history," Abbas concluded.

Hanif Mohammad, the original ‘Little Master’ who played the longest innings in Test cricket, died at the age of 81 on Thursday. He was diagnosed with cancer in 2013 and had been having treatment for respiratory complications when he passed away in Karachi.

Inna Lillahi wa Inna Lillahi Rajioon. He was definitely among the greatest cricketers of Pakistan and well as the world.
As far as I can remember,he was the first batsmen who used the Reverse Sweep. The opposition was either New Zealand or Srilanka (Cannot recall exactly). The fielders started claiming that Hanif was out. The Umpires consulted among themselves and gave the decision that this shot was not against any laws of cricket so Hanif is not out.

PCB chief visits late Hanif Mohammad’s residence

KARACHI: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Shaharyar Khan on Wednesday visited the residence of cricket legend Hanif Mohammad to condole his death with his family members. Hanif died last week in a Karachi hospital after a prolonged illness. Former Pakistan batsman Hanif, player of the world’s longest Test innings, was 81. He was famous for his dogged batting in Pakistan’s nascent years in international cricket, having opened as a schoolboy for the country’s first Test against India in Delhi in 1952. Speaking on the occasion, Shaharyar said that due to his visit abroad he could not attend the funeral of Hanif whose services for the country in the realm of sports were second to non. “The vacuum created by Hanif death is difficult to fill,” he said and added that Hanif never accepted defeat. Shaharyar sympathized with the family members of Hanif urging them to bear this irreparable loss with patient.

Short in stature Hanif - one of four brothers who played for Pakistan and a former national team captain - hit a still unbeaten record of 337 in a marathon 970-minute stay at the crease against the West Indies in Barbados in 1958. That record earned him the epithet of “Little Master”, which stayed with him for an illustrious career that lasted until 1970 during which he played 55 Tests. Mohammad surpassed Donald Bradman’s record for the highest first class innings, scoring 499 for Karachi against Bahawalpur in January 1959 - a record which West Indian Brian Lara broke by scoring 500 not out for Warwickshire county against Durham in 1994.

Mohammad died while under treatment at the private Aga Khan hospital after suffering multiple breathing and liver problems, having undergone an operation for liver cancer three years ago. Mohammad’s three brothers - Wazir, Mushtaq and Sadiq, as well as his son Shoaib - also played for Pakistan. Born in Junagadh, Hanif scored 3,915 runs at an average of 43.98. He still holds the record for highest score (337) in an innings by a Pakistani batsman, followed by Inzamamul Haq (329) and Younus Khan (313). He was also named as Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 1968.
