The little dynamite of ours turns 25 today. He has had a few average games in recent times but we all know that he is a genuine talent and has the potential to be the best wicket keeper in the world.

‘Akmal brothers infringe central contract clauses’

A high PCB official told Dawn on the condition of anonymity that no player had the authority to give such statements in the press and the Akmal brothers had violated their central contract’s clauses regarding discipline.

He added that the PCB would first wait for a report from manager Abdul Raqeeb and then decide any action against them.

The situation created by Umar had turned so serious that Australian captain Ricky Ponting wasted no time in giving him comments: “It might be in protest. It’s a strange situation. Umar has looked their [Pakistan’s] second best batsman behind Mohammad Yousuf.”

The official said the current situation was giving a gloomy picture of discipline in Pakistan cricket.
 
Could that be the reason that he wanted to play on his birthday? He might be thinking things would change on his BIG day.
