Has cricket ever brought tears to your eyes?

Aus Vs Windies 1996 WC semi,cursed that Aus would lose the final,was young then and hated to see the black guys lose.

Some random match in 1997 India against Lanka,was distraught and cried and never after that i ever let myself get that emotional w.r.t cricket.

In 1990's it was not like we were always winning against Pak,so losses against them didn't really make me sad as Pak was the stronger one and i grew up in decade which was clearly Pak's exciting brand of cricket but I'm sure i would be sad when Pak finally defeats us in a WC game.

The way our team is playing at the moment, you should be sad if it is even a close game. India should have innings victory in ODIs against us, thats how bad we are ATM.

1996 World Cup QF. We were the defending champions and even though we had a tough chase - Anwar and Sohail had started so well. We were going at a T20 pace with 84 after 10 overs and 110 after 15 ! I cannot believe how casually our top order lost their wickets.

2009 T20 World Cup. That victory meant a lot given how Pakistan not only as a cricket nation but as a country was in meltdown. Months after the Lahore attacks, terrorism at an all-time high and yet we pulled off a magical display.

Can't say I ever cried but I was definitely crying and screaming internally after Misbah scooped the ball into Sreesanth's hands in the 2007 Final.

On the other hand remember the 2009 WT20 Final very fondly. I was in Karachi staying at my grandmother's during the summer and the entire neighborhood got together and got this big-screen to see the final in the neighborhood. So just watching that game in that atmosphere and seeing Pakistan winning was very special. Probably the closest thing I've seen to a live international match.
So yeah, that was a very happy emotional moment for me.

Sachin's farewell speech was mesmerising and the best ever by a retiring sportsman. Federer may come close. As a Pakistani I hated whenever he scored against Us and in 1990's he was abit cocky aswell which didn't go well with me as a growing kid. But his speech did brought tears. 20 plus years illustrious career as most famous cricketer of last 30 years plus the power of his great words brought the tears.

1999 WC SF b/w SAF and OZ. A small part of me died that day. I was a massive 9 year old fan of the Saffers and was heartbroken completely. And then again when they failed to communicate in 2003, again when they got destroyed by OZ in 07 and then one last time when they played the dumbest game of cricket to throw away their best chance of winning a WC by choking spectacularly against EnZed. Grant Elliott smashing Steyn - while painful to watch, didn't affect me much for some reason.

Yes 2007 WT20 Final and 2011 WC Semi Final two heartbreaking games. Misbahs scoop shot still haunts me.

Misbah scoop shot was not a bad choice of shot. Sreesanth was inside the circle... You needed 6 off 4 and with 1 wicket left. The shot was on. He wanted a 4 on that ball. Once the ball goes over sree it's a 4. But joginder bowled a slower one and unfortunately he scooped that particular ball... So I don't think it's misbah's fault in that final.


And in 2011 game more than misbah I would blame Younis for playing a lame innings. You don't do much if wickets are getting lost at the other end. He tried to take it till the end at least.

First it was seeing waqar being taken apart by jadeja to reach what was then quite a high total of about 280 when they were on the ropes early on. Then seeing saeed and amir play with gay abandon. I've never seen so many gracefully timed shots at one end and wild slogs at the other end. But they all counted and suddenly the openers were gone.

Then the tears came watching miandad scratching around and failing to middle anything. Somehow he managed to last a few overs and made a 50 trying to hold back a Pakistani collapse that has since become all too familiar. Finally he was run out I think and as he stood there looking at his own replays before the third umpire pressed the red button you could just feel he was tearfully thinking it was the end of his career and with it Pakistans hopes in that World Cup. Imran's commentary summed it up as Miandad walked back to the pavilion amongst roars from the Bangalore crowd. "Ladies and gentlemen you are witnessing the end of the most remarkable careers of a cricketing great" or something like that. The crowd roared like I've never heard and miandad using his head and you just knew that night something awoke in Indian cricket and something in Pak cricket was lost forever.

I was fruit picking in Australia and as I tried to explain the significance of what was going on to other non cricket people I felt myself well up.

Javed did not make a 50 in that match Sohail was the only one who made a 50... IIRC JM made about 30 odd runs at a slow S/R and was run out trying steal a single and yes the crowd was really hostile to him when he was walking back.
