Has Pakistan ever been this well prepared and advantaged before a World Cup?

I know people will say otherwise. But I want to make this clear Pakistan have never been this well organised before a WC. The World Cup squad is strong and as was expected. The players mostly have been playing continuously and have an understanding of each others strengths and weaknesses.

Furthermore, all these tour matches and the bilateral series in England mean that Pakistan will be the most advantaged going into the World Cup.

It feels me with great optimism in thinking that the cup is ours. As I strongly believe our team is organised and we'll prepared going into the World Cup.

2 Practice ODI matches
1 Practice T20

1 T20

5 ODIs

2 Warm up matches

That's 11 matches before the world cup begins in around 4 weeks . .

Add to that guaranteed 9 matches in the World cup . .

Not sure of the fitness levels of Shaheen
Definitely not sure of the fitness levels of Hasnain
Amir (if inducted) also doesn't have great fitness and goes off the boil once he gets a bit tired

So while I agree that from a preparation stand point, it is great! I hope they have chalked out a sound plan to avoid burn out before the world cup even begins . .

The last thing you want is to go into the world cup with players feeling a bit fatigued/carrying niggles . . .

The workload of the squad especially the pacers needs to be well managed. I fear fatigue and burnout

Pakistan had a similar advantage for the 2003 ODI WC but we all saw how that turned out.

Pakistan simply cannot complain they haven't had the time to acclimatise.

No other visiting country at this World Cup has been provided better preparation.

Exactly. That's 11 matches in 28 days before WC and 9 matches in 36 days of WC.

Just rotate the bowlers and players who are injury prone like Haris, Imad etc in england series to avoid injuries before the WC.

Sarfaraz should also rest in few matches ideally and Abid should keep.

People pointing out workload for our squad need to remember that most of the worlds top players for other teams have been playing ipl for 2 months before world cup which also includes travel etc. So they wont really be coming in fresh to world cup.

I think we have enough members to rotate and manage workload of bowlers. Most of these didnt play all of aus series. And we have until world cup start to continue to use all 17 members. Even worst case we lose 1 or 2 bowlers we have ample backup in players like amir, wahab riaz, shinwari, haris rauf.

After the World Cup there isn't a lot of ODI matches to be played anyway.

This workload point is not exactly valid. The main players were rested for the Aus series.

The Real Test will be against England’s main team who will want to check all of their components are firing and ready to enable them to lift a World Cup at home

This World Cup is the peak of Cricket.

We will no longer have any 5 match ODI series'

Domestic t20s shouldnt be compared with international Odis. There is a world of difference. Pakistani players also played PSl not long back.

acclimatisation means nothing if your not good enough..are we good enough? I dont think we are..lets support them go on the ride but lower our expectations..

Excellent preparation, Pakistan are doing things the right way.
Junaids must be over the moon - loves a well prepared side. :)

This is a brilliant preparation. It's just a shame we have selected some players who we know will fail and not on cricketing merit.

So Pakistan which plays a 5 match Odi series will be the most advantaged going into the World Cup.
But England which plays in England at least 6 months a year for past 4 years is not advantaged and not well prepared?

Undoubtedly this time PAK should be well prepared. Apart from the hosts, they are spending most times prior to WC and playing appropriate amount of games this time. IND & WIN toured Australia just before WC, last time when similar format was used; but they played 5 Tests & 10 game WSC with AUS - all 3 teams failed to make SF eventually. But, there is not Test match for PAK & 5 ODIs against probably the toughest opponents.

Among favourites, I am afraid India will be least prepared after 20 weeks long IPL, which probably is the most physically demanding tournament considering the constant travelling and the climate of South Asia during April - May, and the wickets are quite different as well. However, most of the top internationals also are taking part in IPL, which makes PAK & to an extent BD team well prepared for WC.

As long as we don't fatigue mentally we should be okay because fitness levels in the team haven't ever been better! We need to rotate not only the pacers but the batsmen too so they stay fresh.

In terms of squad strength we are probably the 5th or 6th best team in the tournament, but mental fatigue is our 2nd biggest problem. It's hard to upset better opponents when you aren't up for it mentally! It will be Ramadan soon too so hopefully they have a plan to handle that properly as well.

hehe.
The only time you could say this about Pakistan was 1999.

20 weeks right.. why not 50 weeks? it is a 7 week tournament where most bowlers will bowl less than 60 hours over the course of the tournament..

It was a typo. The work load of a full IPL can’t be measured by the overs bowled, also the tournament isn’t played over 2-3 venues.

Yet still not enough games to show our thick tank that Yasir is not made for ODIs.

Hopefully they realize sooner than later that ODIs are not his forte.
