No matter how much we concentrate, the autocorrect on the phones and its word 'prediction' is the ultimate temptation to save time. I just sent this message to a female acquaintance....

Khair Mubaarak. Aapko aur aapke shohr ko bhi bohatt, bohatt ziyada Eid Mubaarak!

The person I sent the message afterwards, I kept going with the autocorrect after typing "Khair Mubaarak". However, this time around it was a male acquaintance, and I ended up wishing his non-existing husband!

Yea it has, but pretty much all technology has made us lazy now. Plus side is that its time efficient

Its not just autocorrect, everything to do with technological innovation has made us lazy.

Let alone the absurdity of wishing someone on a holy occasion like Eid or on a more personal occasion like birthday through a text message. A motion so trivial and insignificant that it makes emailing someone an electronic greeting card, a gesture which used to be even more trite and inconsequential, feels like a grand show of undivided attention and endearment.

I have an aunt who sends me an electronic Birthday card in email every year. Initially, I used to think of it as a cheap and third-rate way of getting out of sending me a real card in the mail or better a gift. Nowadays, getting that generic email card with the teddy bear and flowers and the message underneath and the Happy Birthday theme song playing in monophonic computer chip sound from the 80’s feels like bliss. I actually look forward to it. Someone actually took the time to pick a card, write an actual coherent message and email it. Have I died and gone to heaven.

Another *******ly innovation I would like to include in this discussion is group messaging. I mean can you be more lazier than writing two letters “Eid Mubarak” and simply group messaging it to all your contacts. Not even taking the time to write a separate message for each individual. More thought and effort goes into answering the call of nature than this joke of a greeting. But in todays busy social network savvy days, this action is considered sufficient, both socially and morally. Ah… at least he remembered to include me in the group message, how thoughtful of him, now I should return the favor and send him a ‘Eid Mubarak” message as well otherwise the norms of decency will be destroyed forever.

The days we have fallen on...

No it makes me less lazy, my phone auto corrects to some rubbish that has nothing to do with what I'm typing, so I have to correct it back 3 times and/or explain why I messaged something absurd.

I dont think auto prediction makes anyone lazy as per say. I am more alert and actually read the SMS i write twice just to make sure no dodgy typos. Also it helps me make less spelling mistakes.

However I think people have become lazy using GIF or Photo messages to greet someone.

This year it was horrible. I had many family memebers forward or send a Eid photo which has wishes on it. People dont take the time to phyiscally compose (or cut copy paste) messages to greet someone during a special day.
