Hong Kong Island United is proud to announce that we will be bringing the world number one limited overs bowler to the Hong Kong T20 Blitz this year. We are really excited to have Hasan Ali on board with us, he is officially a member of the #UnitedFamily. Hasan has expressed great joy in joining HKIU & feels the T20 blitz will give Hong Kong cricket the mileage it needs. He feels the local guys will gain a lot of experience playing alongside world cricket’s stars, he related this to the Pakistan Super League & mentioned his own journey & how he learnt a lot from sharing a dressing room with foreign players. Hasan is really excited to play alongside his friends at HKIU. We will announce those names shortly.

The owner of HKIU Ali Naqvi said, “Hasan Ali is the star of world cricket, he is the highest ODI wicket-taker in 2017 so having him on board is really exciting not just for our team but also for the Blitz as a tournament. Our aim is to keep bringing in names that can help local talent develop. Last year we had the experience of the likes of Misbah, Saeed Ajmal, Badree etc, this year we have gone for the youthful exuberance of Hasan Ali. He can light up the entire league & bring a new flavour to Hong Kong cricket.”

Aamna Naqvi also owner of HKIU said, “Hasan is an exciting prospect but he isn’t the only big name we are bringing in this year. Hong Kong Island United has a lot more to offer & you will find out soon why I say that. As far as Hasan is concerned, we want him to do his trademark celebration here in Hong Kong and inspire kids to run in and bowl fast like him. Hasan became a fast bowler because he saw Waqar Younis bowl, we hope kids here see Hasan bowl and aspire to bowl like him”

A Junior pro cricketer at my club told me that there is a serious amount of money to be made in Hong Kong for cricket. Sounds very interesting, who is funding all of the cricket there and what exactly is their market? Apparently getting a contract of $50-60k USD for a season is nothing special for fringe county players

PCB should not allow its pacers to play random Mickey Mouse leagues.

Rest is necessary for a faster bowler in particular, and spending adequate time with family also has positive emotional reinforcement on a person

Agree absolutely

Also am shocked by the team owners not taking care of Pak players.

Azhar and Mickey should stand up and prevent this from going ahead.

Hasan Ali should also put his foot down and stop agreeing to play in every league that comes his way. He will get rich eventually if he continues to work hard and play better. The big boys would come for him if he stays fit and not over exert himself in whatever that comes his way.

He shouldn’t play.Should only play in England,Australia,SA T20 Leagues (aside from PSL)to gain experience on those wickets.Aside from some quick cash, what will he gain from playing in HK?

+1.

These players get zero rest. He's 23 he will burn out very quickly.

I daresay being paid $120,000 or whatever also has positive emotional reinforcement.

Being treated as the personal slave of a monopoly employer mightn't feel so great as well.

Let him judge what can play or not. He is not your collective property.

And if you really feel he is, why not pay him that much not to play?

I find it just sickening that people dare to make comments like the kind I've seen here.

This is a person you're talking about. Not your private property.

When have any of you people not cared about your own money and property? That you feel so free and cavalier to say "it's just money" when you talk of forcing other people to make sacrifices.

Why shouldn't he be the judge of what his body can or cannot handle?

And I know for a fact, if he hits bad form for even 5 games, 90% of the idiots on this forum will want him dropped and then it's not their problem if he never earns anything or gets contracts, because you won't be the one not earning a living.

If I’m not wrong, they play such tournaments in HK in that soccer stadium. It’s extremely risky for fast bowlers (ankle & knee), to bowl on grounds that are not customized for cricket. Don’t think they had that solid landing block at the middle of a soccer ground and those outfields are often built on sand base for soccer, where players runs on toes, fast bowlers run & land on heels. Hope, he doesn’t comeback limping with a ruptured ligament.

I do wish the people who are tasked with looking after our players understood this!

this is ridiculous..but he was asked about over doing things and his answer was that he loves bowling and staying in rhythm so maybe this will help??

These complaints are being made in very poor faith in many cases by people who don't care about either Hasan or the big picture but about controlling, regulating and people who are very anti-T20.

He could bowl 5 times this many overs in meaningless FC games and risk injury there and these same people would be fine with that.

Bowling 4 overs will not exhaust or injure him. He's not made of glass.

PCB should retrict players from playing these leagues..

Really against him playing in these rubbish leagues. He's the world's number 1 bowler for crying out loud. Is a bit of money really worth him risking overload. I know he's admitted he doesn't like being away from cricket for too long but this is just taking the mick. It's not going to benefit his career playing here, especially when the PSL follows this tournament (according to Abdullah719).
I can't imagine him saying in an interview in the future "The Hong Kong T20 Blitz has played a huge role in my development as a bowler". :yk I don't want him to go the way of Cummins etc. He's already missed a few games via injury for Pakistan and if he suffers a bad injury at such a young age that could ruin his career and he definitely has the potential to be an ATG.

Hasan Ali's name missing from list issued for squads

I hope he doesn't play in this tournament. I don't trust these outfields. Don't want him to get injured playing in this tournament

Someone needs to guide him and tell him to manage his workload.

Alongwith PCB, the IU franchisee owners also should show some responsiblity. Our rich and elite should also make sure they we don't burn out our sportpersons unnecessarily. Counsel and mentoring should be
done by the PCB. Otherwise PCB can't refuse a player to make money anywhere as he would take it personally and his game would be affected.
PCB should sprove to them they are supporting them fully. Should shift Hasan Ali to contract A or even enhance their contracts, allow all of their players certain freedom to support endorsements in Pakistan and beyond. If he appears in commercials in UK or Hong Kong, no problem with that.
Too much leagues, even with gaps not good for our cricket. Improve the payscale of our cricketers in domestic cricket they can make an extra buck staying in their country.

Yh Hasan Ali and Shadab Khan both don’t seem to be a part of the league
Which seems like the right decision
