I have a distant cousin of a cousin who overstayed his student visa and now lives and works in the UK illegally. Several times a year he sends out a whatsapp message containing some so called legal mumbo jumbo re UK illegal migrants legitimising their status and he then asks for advice. More often than not it’s just some desi lawyer promising the earth in exchange for a hefty fee. 99% of these will be scams but I guess ocassionally, like the story in the OP, there are illegal schemes out there which work.

I would never personally report an illegal worker however the government should really be more strict with these people - many of them use the nhs no questions asked, send their kids to state schools for free, have driving licences etc etc. Yet they pay no tax at all. At the end of the day someone has to foot that bill.

I’ve heard stories of illegal desi workers being caught by immigration at their place of work and they are just told to leave the place and not return. A week later and they are back. The immigration officials don’t detain most of these folks as it costs too much and more often than not the workers have destroyed their original travel documents so they can’t be deported until their country of origin issues a new one and certain countries like India take years (probably deliberately) to issue new documents.

If you ever go to a busy London Sikh or Hindu temple you will see some interesting people and hear some interesting and depressing stories. The problem is massive.
