In the wake of the barely fathom revelations relating to Azeem Rafiq at Yorkshire, how prevalent is this this of behaviour on a wider scale ?.

Azeem was an immigrant which made him more of a target than say Rashid or Shahzad but British Pakistanis are marginalised in society, starting from an early age.

There is also a lot of social engineering applied to marginalise those from rural areas like Mirpur which make up a bulk of Pakistani expats in Britain. This behaviour creates malignant strains that result in the type of unspeakable crimes that are committed by said group...

Thoughts?.

No organisation I have ever worked for would dismiss the p-word as banter. There would be disciplinary action, diversity courses, possible suspensions and even sackings.

Having said that, BAME people experience worse outcomes than whites in all UK service areas. Black women are four times more likely to die in childbirth than whites. South Asian descended Muslims are disproportionately represented in British jails.

Have a read of Akala’s book ‘Natives’ for an in-depth analysis.

But there are subdivisions within BAME; the positive discrimination for certain ethnic groups is incredulous.Im suggesting there is overt racism towards Pakistanis that's tolerated.

Considering the number of Pakistanis in the UK and the excuses that they make when you ask them to return to Pakistan and serve they country they claim to love, I suspect it is not that big of a problem.

I don’t see any positive discrimination in the UK. It would be illegal.

Neither do I see British Pakistanis subjected to worse racism than other BAME groups in the UK.

BAME people, disabled people, transgender people and gay people are protected at work by the Equality Act. Racist harassment and bullying is illegal. Employers have to discharge this duty. If they fail to do so, they can be held criminally liable.

How can you reasonably state that?. That's a very narrow viewpoint

What's that got to do with it?. What about proud British people of Pakistani extraction?.

Which statement? I made three.

All I suppose because you may not have witnessed
It, doesn't mean it isn't the case.

In which case, Yorkshire CCC should be disbanded. Intriguing times .

YCCC’s sponsors are pulling out.

I think the Chairman has to carry the can for this scandal and resign. Bring in a troubleshooter stead. I think some players should be sacked too. Root and branch change is required.

Had it been that bad Pakistanis would not be living here in such high numbers. It is mostly due to ignorance where white people don't understand how offensive their so called banter can be. There will always be some element of discrimination and racism in society.

Where would people like me go 2nd or 3rd generations then?we consider this country home having been born and brought up here You expect us to leave our birth country

To say if its that bad we wouldnt be here is not a good point

Is like saying the uyghurs wouldnt be in china if it wasnt that bad or the rohingya wouldnt be in burma if it were that bad Its their home

Its trying to downplay the issue rather than dealing with it

I too was born here. We could return to Pak or try elsewhere if things were that bad. Yes people do leave their birth country just like our forefathers did. It is not as if people don't immigrate today for various reasons.

Yes it is a fine point when we consider people from other parts of the world are still arriving here. If the UK was so bad refugee's and asylum seekers would not be coming here in droves. On their way to the UK they pass many countries.

I am afraid there is no country that is heaven on earth, sorry to disappoint you. We can make Pakistan that then live their instead of having a go at the UK and the USA etc all the time.

Return where?. I have zero links to Pakistan.

Yorkshire and England batsman Gary Ballance has expressed regret for using racist language towards Azeem Rafiq at YCCC.

Deep rooted is a great term because that's exactly what racism in the UK is. I have spoken to some white colleagues who believed racism no longer existed in the country and their mind was blown over the last year and reporting on the BLM movement and so on.

Just earlier this year, there was a key report into how many more times likely a woman of South Asian descent is likely to die in child birth and how much more likely it is for their neonates to die due to poor medical care, heavily influenced by racist staff and lack of findings in these areas (the study mainly covers England, in particular Leicester, Bradford, Bolton and a few other places). This is a report a dear friend of mine, an excellent doctor of 40+ years had been calling for for years and finally managed to get councilors to listen. The problem is, the damage has been done and countless lives destroyed.

ECB has removed YCCC’s right to host internationals as Rafiq’s story continues to gain traction.

Return where?. I have zero links to Pakistan.

In that case you either immigrate to anywhere else you consider to be heaven or stay put. This country is still better then most on earth. Regretfully their is no heaven on earth for you. Perhaps you can try another planet!

Having lived in the UK, I believe the UK is an amazing place for Pakistanis. They have full rights and access to brilliant education and health services and they are treated as equal citizens. They are well-represented in different job sectors too. There may be some racism but overall, it is not as worse as it is being made to look like.

If I add, there is undoubtedly regressive genes within BritPak community where low IQs have aggressively been inbreeding but this has tarnished the whole community. The fact there are so many grooming gangs from British Pakistani households suggests there's obviously a problem at the core of a culture not compatible with its faith and creating a hostile environment for the whole.

But, there is a bias against Azad Kashmiris which is slowly changing but in 2000 riots engulfed Northern towns of disaffected Pakistani communities and it had a profound effect, from imprisoning rioters where equals in Toxteth, Brixton or Ely in Cardiff to riots in 2010, are now revised as 'social injustice action'.

There should be more British Muslim footballers and cricketers but the only ethnic minority from Asians gaining traction are Indians and not necessarily Muslim communities such as the Gujarati, where recent cases involving racism in cricket of an umpire from that community exposed the blatant discrimination.

Ultimately, oppression is subjective, otherwise it wouldn't exist.

Yes the west is still much better then Muslim countries that are mostly war zones full of corruption, discrimination and violence. We are fortunate to be living in the UK, USA and Canada etc where mostly people are treated equally irrespective of their race and religion. Think about people living in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Yemen, IoK and Africa before having a go at the west. Pakistanis are not even granted citizenship in Arab countries yet we are calling the west bad. Put forward a balanced perspective instead of always attacking the west just for the sake off it. If you feel the west is now too racist than move to a Muslim heaven.

Regressive genes within Britpak community? You are racist 100%.

I think in your eagerness to launch into your usual tirades against Pakistan, you may have missed that the OP was addressing racism in Britain generally, they weren't specifying Pakistan specifically.

As someone who has grown up in white society in Britain, I can tell you that racism is deeply ingrained in Britain, but it is unconscious racism these days rather than the blatant racism we used to see in the past. But we are trying to address it these days, and it is improving with every generation.

There are still some taboos of course, the really subtle kind which are harder to root out, but Rome wasn't built in a day.

Regressive genes within Britpak community? You are racist 100%.

Yes that is a really poor statement. Regressive in what way? Physically? Mentally? Ideologically? You could argue they might be regressive in one aspect but superior in others.

Roughly what % of the population goes through inbreeding? Is it 4-5% or 40-50%?

Racism does not disappear in one year or in one decade. Systematic racism has gone down a lot in most parts of our world. I don't think it's totally eliminated, but far better than '50s. The situation should be more or less the same in the UK as well.

I disagree. Racism in 50s was very open and in your face. Now while generally even if it has gone down its still there but very subtle. In UK atleast I'm sure others will say the same.

Why would you return to Pak if you were born here?

Coz of parents who were born there and family who still reside in the country. Pak will always be the root country even for those born elsewhere. Very simple.

Did you mean agree? You are saying more or less the same thing. It is drastically better than 50s, but not totally gone.

It's not very simple, it's just massively inaccurate. 90% of British born Pakistanis would never think that way. It's an immigrant mindset, and that's no surprise. In fact even most immigrants don't talk about returning. I am pretty sure you won't.

My adult children are born in the UK.
What is more their mother is not Pakistani.

Where will they go in the face of institutional racism?

Forget the growing up part here in london, that was a completely different kettle of fish during the late 70's and upto the mid 80's.
Trust me it was scary being in a tube when 4 or 5 skin heads boarded the Northern Line...

Times have changed and thankfully for the better. However, the industry I was in (until I retired from it a several years ago), as a trainee I was the only Asian at the company.

I then worked at various companies for twenty years, even having my own company.
The brokers I dealt with were almost exclusively white English.
Then the last company I worked at I was the only Asian there out of 70 people.

In twenty odd years in that industry I think I only ever met one black broker and maybe a handful of Asian brokers even though it's an international business which traded globally.

When I look at the photos of various reunions I'm the only Asian there.

So when pics of Osama were sent around a desk as joke I joked back.
Handled it all with banter and gave it as good as I got.
But all this has got me thinking, there is a hell of a lot that needs to be done in the industry I was involved in and I'm sure many many others too.

I love my country where i was born and live much more then Pakistan. Most people in the world do have a second or root country like African American's. Many Irish people living in other countries love Ireland more then where they were born. There is nothing immigrant about it at all.

They will just have too immigrate to a third country. You should have thought about this possible problem when you married a non Pak lady.

Sorry so what exactly are you trying to say here?
That racism is fine that those that are discriminated against should leave rather then fight against racism?

There is if they talk about returning there because of their parents. I mean come on man, your signature is in direct contradiction to your post which I quoted.

Sorry my friend, but only a racist or an immigrant thinks racism is ok in modern Britain.

Perhaps he feels that offspring of immigrants will always be outsiders and not fully accepted. Even if their parents were born here because of their roots as it were. I mean look at his signature, it's not even subtle trolling.

I am trying to say that the UK is not that bad when it comes to racism otherwise refugee's would not be coming here in high numbers. If some people find the UK or any western country too violent or harsh then they can immigrate elsewhere. Even if they don't have family in Pakistan or another country they can still immigrate there. You can play John Rambo and spend your time fighting racism where as I would move if I felt it had become intolerable.

Racism is not okay anywhere at all. What I am saying is no one is stopping anyone from moving if they find it to be intolerable. Many white people who are indigenous Brits also have a massive problem with racism too so it comes down to how a person would deal with it. It is comforting to know that a person can move to another country not necessarily their country of ethnicity if things become too much for them. I don't know what this has to do with my signature? Even many white British people continue to support the UK at sport after moving to a Canada, Australia, USA or America. Have you heard of dual nationaility?

Why do you have to move anywhere if you object to racism? This is Britain mate, we have come a long way in the last 50 years. Those of us who are born here have no need to move anywhere, we can complain just like our white comrades.

But if you want to move back to Pakistan, feel free, you can defend Islam and Pakistan far more effectively there. See ya.

His mask is slipping again. Him and Technics both, with with trash they post, could never be posted by a self respecting Muslim and British Pakistani person.

So what if it is the UK? Racism is not restricted to any one country. Many white people move to other parts of the world for better opportunities then why can coloured people not do so if it becomes intolerable? Have there not been enough complaints over the years that you want to keep running your mouth? As I have said the UK is still a good place to live in where most people i believe are not racist moreover coloured people have greatly contributed to the success of the country.

Perhaps I am not like you who wants to live all your life in one country too afraid to try something else. I did not say i want to move back rather it is comforting to know there is a place you can call a second home if need be. If the Jews could be massacred in Nazi Germany then such things can happen anywhere even today including the UK.

I have watched this country’s slide into an aggressive and resentful nationalism / xenophobia in horror. The place does not feel like home any more. To the point where a move in retirement to an EU nation is a strong possibility.

American here. My impression has been that all of EU has an increase in right wing white nationalist movement these days (probably fueled by anti-immigrant sentiments). I have been concluding that even the Scandinavian countries are probably not as tolerant as UK (thanks to its long term diversity).

Sounds like I could be wrong in my thinking here. Are there any parts of EU now that are more tolerant than the UK?

Don't hit the door on your way out!:))):))):))) If all British government's keep fighting America's wars then it will be forced to take in so many refugee's as a result, there will be dire consequences. The UK does not have an independent foreign policy, UK is an American slave.

The EU is in a worse state than the UK. There is a clear rise in rightwing politics in Germany, France, Poland, and Netherlands to name but a few. As ever austerity is the cause and the EU economy is heading to the pits, some parts of the EU are already there!

You are not wrong. Europe has a deep rooted culture in racism, facism, and war. The EU project was designed to cover the cracks post WW2 but instead has created wider divisions. EU has been an abject failure.

Have fun. There are genuine far right islamophobic / antisemitic parties all over the EU which perform well in national elections. Different religious customs and certain forms of cultural dress are restricted or banned all over the EU. None of this happens in the UK.

I find the lack of reflection/knowledge/caring about this situation from EUphiles to be quite staggering. As long as it’s easy for them to get through passport controls, go skiing in Italy and buy a house in France somewhere, nothing else apparently matters. Either they don’t know about it and are ignorant, or they do and they are ok with it. The facts are all out there and relatively easy to discover. The EU is a failed attempt at a superstate, an economic black hole, and a political basketcase.

No, and in the first instance above you are absolutely right. Don’t doubt your own sound conclusions as they are based in fact.

Im not a firsthand expert on this, but I suspect , on a broader level, various micro & macro factors could be at play.

It is a bit self immolatory ( and oops wait for it, racist ) to discuss the issue itself under a single umbrella as one could tip slightly on the scales towards generalisations.

I would like to draw a distinction towards the racism faced by lets say the average Pakistani in Bradford ( again, oops ) to the racism faced by a Polish on a london train, or to a black man working in Adobe, or
for that matter, an Indian cricketer in country Yorkshire.

A Muslim shop worker has won nearly £30,000 after she claimed her boss at a posh greengrocer threw rotten fruit at her and told her to wear “tighter clothes”. The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, started working for Engin Babur at Elisa Organic and Whole Foods in Shepherd's Bush, West London, in June last year.

She also claims he brandished a knife in her face during a row over corn on the cob and mimicked her Cockney accent before telling her to “speak posh” to customers. The employee won her claim for sex harassment at the London Employment Tribunal and has now been awarded £27,715.56.

In a witness statement, the woman said: “Whilst working at the shop, no day went by without Mr Babur shouting at me accusing me of something, slamming a door, banging a fist or throwing rotten fruit. He claimed I was trying to take over the shop and said I am the worker and should do as I am told. He said I was a worker, nothing else because I am nothing else, just a piece of s**t."

The woman also claimed Babur waved a knife in her face when she asked him a question about corn on the cob. She said: “He snatched it out my hand and threw it in the bin. He was working in the kitchen and had a large knife in his hand.

"He pointed the knife at me and said: ‘Listen to me and listen carefully. I have had enough of your b******t. Don’t come in here asking for help, you should know better’.”

She said he waved the knife in her face and told her: “I don’t like this scarf covering your body, take this off, take your cap off too. Put some make-up on your face and wear some nice tight clothing.”

As she left, she claimed he heard him use a racial slur about her and comment that she “should not mess with a Turk”.

She told the tribunal his behaviour made her feel “humiliated, belittled and fearful” and she has lost her trust in men. She said she suffered with depression and anxiety for four months after working for Babur.

The woman said: “I take my sons to Friday prayers but I can't drop them off outside the mosque as there's too many men there. I park two streets away when I drop them off and I don't pick them up. It is too stressful to wait for them.

“I had no social life. I didn’t want to see people or use social media. I haven't been meeting up with others, I just spend time with my kids and new partner. I don’t go shopping as much as I used to as I don't like to go outside. I worry about going through the same issues as I had with Engin and I don't know when I will be ready to find work again.”

She also won claims for failing to pay wages and holiday pay, failure to provide an employment contract and conduct entitling her to terminate her employment without notice. Elisa Organic and Whole Foods no-longer occupies the unit where the alleged incidents took place.

I thought the Turks loved Pakistanis but seems Babur hated his Pakistani employee? I would have thought this Turk would have been Muslim too. Even if not millions of ladies observe the hijab in Turkey that he seems to totally ignore. Nowadays Muslim's are hating on their coreligionists.

This is like saying a white nurse abused children in a care home so that must be an indication that all white females are child abusers.

That may be so but this Pak-Turk bhai bhai rubbish goes way over the top at times. It is also weird to see a Muslim being a hijab hater if he was one.

Secular or not most Pakistanis look upon them as Muslim as their brethren. Pakistanis are the only people who feel this way towards other Muslim countries.
Most Muslims have a yearning for Turkey in reminiscence of the Ottoman Empire. Not necessarily healthy, I agree

I've been called a Gorah or I'd I've asked for a price in a taxi heard 'gorah price' is that racism?
