Despite big talking from our Coach and high hopes, the fact is that Pakistan will be up against some tough competition, with teams that will come in with a lot of good preparation for this event.

So how far do you think Pakistan U19s will go in this tournament?

We have 2 very good Batsman in Rohail and Haider and that's about it. The bowling is an unknown quantity and hopefully we find some good young bowlers coming through.

This team is better than 2018 team, particularly in batting. And should be a more confident team with captain and Haider Ali now knocking at doors of national team.

Naseem is put we have 2 players thats it i think we are asking too much to be honest they have w decent group so should atleast reach there

It's hard to know before the tourney since we really only know about 2 players. For that reason, I'm going conservative, we'll lose in the semis.

Should go till the semis atleast considering the the current Pak team. Even with Pak's weaker U19 team like last year which had pretty poor batting lineup, they still went to the semis.

Pak have gone to semis or further on 8 out of 12 occasions in U19 WC and current U19 team is better in terms of batting than the last one with decent batting depth too. Naseem will be missed surely but still other pacers have enough ability to stand up.

Last year? Do you mean 2 years ago bro?

Hopefully they win. Haider and rohail are definetly the main players. But watch out for haris and irfan naizi they seem decent prospects.

I am worried about the coaching they are receiving at the NCA at this crucial stage of their development.

In a video posted by the PCB Mushtaq was advising the batsman not to drive or sweep basically supressing his flair.. He wanted him to tap the ball instead. Whereas Muhtashim Rasheed was asking the batsman to straight drive a spinner spinning the ball away from the bat.
PCB really needs to get some good coaches.

Watch out for these players:

Aarish Ali Khan
Irfan Niazi

Both really good players.

Of course, others to look out for are Haider Ali and Rohail Nazir.

But this spinner Aarish Ali Khan is special.

A concern is the lack of match practice.

They haven't played an U19 international since September. This is ok for the guys who have been playing QeA Trophy but it's obviously an issue for those who haven't had regular match practice.

It doesn't matter how far u19 team goes in WC. If it graduates all the squad players from age group cricket to first class ready athletes and hopefully 1-2 of them into potential national players.

They will win the tournament if they can beat India at some stage - rest of the sides are good but Pakistan can overcome them.

Naseem Shah should have been aloowed to play here , that would have made Pakistan bowling really lethal. He alone is coapable of getting quick wickets.

I expect Pakistan to make semis.

What I can see is PAK's (& BD's) Group is the toughest one - 4th team is Scotland and they are quite decent at U19 level. 3rd team is ZIM, who has just beaten SAF U19 comfortably today, after losing to NZ U19 by 2 runs, from a position of like 50 needed in 15 overs and 7/8 wickets at hand.

Won't be surprised if one of the two favorites get chopped in group stages from this group.

Am very hopeful about this side but my problem is that they dont have real match practice as a unit under their belts - lets hope warm-ups are good - although the 11 matches they played in Pak could well have been played vs local sides in SA?

in 2018 there was a big difference between the quality of players in India under 19 team and Pakistan;s. This time team Indian is a bit weaker, compared to 2018 and Pakistan team is bit better. India is still the favorite, but----- you never know.

The odds are out.

India are big favourites.

Pakistan's 5th highest in the odds.

Seems about right really.

I just worry about Pakistan's batting if Rohail and Haider don't perform.

Good sign in warmup game although was against Nigeria!

Tomorrow's game should give us a good idea v SL

India are clear favourites.

Pakistan can do really well and can also crash out early. But our prayers are with this team.

Just to draw a roadmap:

Once group stages are over, Group C (Pakistan and Bangladesh) will go up against Group B (top two of Australia/England/West Indies depending on who wins in the group stages.

Let’s say Pak finishes 1st in C (tops over Bangladesh in group stages) and is matched up with England who finish 2nd in B (with Australia first) it will likely be a Pak vs England quarter final

Aus vs Bangladesh quarter final (B1 vs C2) will be interesting as they just had a warm up match that tied, although Aus was all out while BD had 4 wickets remaining for the same score. It’s quite possible to see a Bangladesh upset

If Pakistan u19 beat England, Semi-final match up will be Pak vs India. India looks dominant among Group A as well as against any of the teams in D i.e South Africa, UAE, Afghanistan. It looks very likely that they will end up in the semis regardless of whether they are first or second in A, given how weak D looks.

Other semi final looks to be Australia/Bangladesh vs any of the following

New Zealand(A)
Sri Lanka(A)
Afghanistan(D)
South Africa(D)

Depending on who ends up in the A2 vs D1 quarter final. Not enough info on the four teams based on recent performances to make a prediction, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Afghanistan finished D1 over SA since they’re all 20 somethings and SA U19 has been losing to everyone recently.

A2 we’ll have to see depending on NZ vs SL during group stages. One of these will match up Afghanistan perhaps in the quarter and the winner from these three will end up in the second semi vs either AUS/BD.

Lots of speculation/guessing so far so I might as well go all the way haha.

Either of AUS/BD beat NZ/SL/AFG in the semis and we end up with a Pak/India vs Aus/BD final. Personally i think Pak/India will lift the cup, depending on who beats who in the semi final. Personally hoping that Pak does, but i’d say it’s 50/50.

Quarter-finals are A1 vs B2, A2 vs B1, C1 vs D2 and C2 vs D1.

If Pakistan qualify for the QFs, they will face AFG/SA/UAE/CAN.

IIRC, didn't Pakistan beat SA in SA 7-0 just a few months ago?
Or was that Sri Lanka?

I've gone for the semi-finals. Hope I'm wrong and they go on and win it.

With Naseem Shah there they'd have been amongst the favourites but it's understandable that he's not been sent to South Africa.

Semi final stage. After that we will never hear of these players again. All will be lost in numerous yet useless clinics we have or will be deemed as not good enough. Some may get a few games for the national side like Anwar Ali Khan before disappearing. Remember him?

So Pakistan's fixtures in the group stage

Group C fixtures:

19 January: Pakistan v Scotland – North West University Oval, Potchefstroom;
22 January: Pakistan v Zimbabwe – Witrand Oval, Potchefstroom;
24 January: Pakistan v Bangladesh – JB Marks Oval, Potchefstroom;

Easy for them to go to QFs.

If they come first in thier group they will most likely play south africa 2nd in group D will.easily win this game

If they come.second they will have more difficulty beating afganistan

So I reakon they will come first in their group and beat south Africa so most likely will get to atleast semi final

Chances of rain tomorrow - so points could be shared!

That would mean the matches against BD and Zim will be must win to ensure going to the next round. As Pak loosing one match and Scotland winning one match would mean it NRR will have to come into play and that would be risky.

The match against BD may be a washout out a very high chance.

There's a chance that the match against Zim will be a washout too

Well.. I hope atleast Pak U19 is able to play something and get enough points to go through the next round otherwise this will be as poor as the WC19 where rain will be ruining the group stages of the ICC tournament.

Forecast is for sunny weather on 22, the day we're playing against Zimbawe, why are you so pessimistic ?

I used the google weather thing

Ok so Pakistan look good for Semi Final stage atleast - good strong team.

The Afghanistan team will reach the SF, that leaves us to play the home team in home conditions. I think QF and home would be my bet.

We whitewashed SA 7-0 followed by them getting beat by India and very narrowly avoiding defeat to Nigeria. They then got thrashed by Afghanistan in their first world cup match. I wouldn’t be surprised if Pakistan is matched up with the UAE instead with SA failing to break altogether

I always fear home teams especially if they get a good crowd.

Bowling a team out for 61 and chasing it in 8 overs with only two wickets down isn't very narrowly avoiding defeat LOL

My mistake. But they lost to Afghanistan Sri Lanka Pakistan and India. I don’t rate this squad.

So big day for Pak tomorrow - can they move past Qfs?

Do i miss something. I know senior Afghanistan team can pull off an upset with a lot of international exposure. Under-19? Do they stand a chance against Pakistan?

Realistically, we should win the QF and then go on to lose to India but imo we’re gonna win the cup

Potentially we will play Afghanistan, India, Bangladesh in consecutive matches. Will be amazing to smash the living daylights of youngsters of these countries to win the cup. What a slap it would be.. we have all the talent to do it as well. Very hopeful and can’t wait to see the reactions of some of the overconfident posters from there countries.

Didn’t think of that.
Imagine beAting all 4 subcontinent teams.but let’s focus on this game

Mate your team is not underdog here it’s Afghanistan and Bangladesh.. And check posts properly who is over confident and who is not..

Right now the most likely to win the cup is India followed by Pakistan. After this is Bangladesh who will no doubt win over New Zealand to secure the other finalist spot. I rank Pakistan slightly lower than India because even though I think we have the better players (Tahir and Amir are an amazing new ball opening pair, and our batting has depth even if Haider and Rohail fail which I don't see likely. Haider and Rohail have performed in first-class as well, batting against international bowlers in the new 6 team system whereas the Indian U19s don't have that exposure). However, there's too much psychological pressure in India-Pakistan matches that Indians typically tend to handle better than Pakistanis do. This is why we have yet to win a single world cup match against them in national level cricket, even in the previous 2019 world cup where we ended up thrashing finalists England and New Zealand but couldn't beat India). Let's see though

I think in both batting and bowling dept we have better players , spin bowling India might have an edge. This time we also have players who can handle pressure well in the form of Haris , Huraira and Rohail.

If they go past India - I will fancy them to win the title.

Very big task to beat India but agree about their chances if they achieve this

As of now, the weather is not looking good for the final.

If it gets rained out (both days), will they share the trophy?

Overall, they did well. They need more intense competition at the age group levels on good pitches, in good weather.
