Edging to slips, slashing to get an inside edge, poorly timed pulls landing in safe zones. I love how aggressive he is in terms of approach, quite amazing actually. But this is something that i have been noticing since quite a while. Fakhar, for all his brilliance, rides on his luck way too much sometimes. Do you think that this can be harmful for him in long term if he keeps on doing that? If you consider the last two matches, in the first match he had a catch dropped and in the second match he got an inside edge and an edge to the slip, both times lucky. Do you think he needs tweaking in terms of his timing of the ball?

I haven't seen him bat for quiet some time now.If you are right then his batting should look ugly too and he can't get on with luck every time in future. After watching almost the whole career of Saeed Anwar every left hander since then except Imran Farhat ( this lad was stylist and promising, still i am confused how he couldn't get a successful career.) looked big ordinery to me.Saeed was a true class batsman ,elegent to watch with classic stroke play .

If and only if Bumrah hadn’t overstepped, he probably wouldn’t be part of the playing 11 today. Mediocre player ... can’t remember any other innings of substance other than the CT final.

Just because you are ignorant about Pakistani cricket and are still hurting over the thrashing does not makes him a poor batsman. Had Pakistan held onto their catches in 2011, we probably would have won the WC and Sachin's career would have ended in tears. There are a lot of ifs and buts so please.

He batted well in Newzealand.
He wasn't very good but looked better than their other batsmen.

That's a bitter truth that fakhar hadn't been as good as he was expected to be.
He had a disastrous series in uae. In Newzealand he was ok but nothing extraordinary.
Sachin has 100's of good knocks not just that 80 odd against pak. Fakhar is not beyond criticism so hold ur horses.

Averages 59 against top teams (NZ, ENG, SA and IND), at 95 s.r. with 3 50's and one hundred against our ATG attack.

What else should he do? Average 100??

Just because you don't remember doesn't mean he's a mediocre player. Sad to see bias, and ashamed that you are my country mate.

Who said Fakhar is beyond criticism? I am the one who criticized him in the first place but the way your folk have rushed to this thread like honey bees tells me that he has left a mental impact on your lot. He has impacted so heavily that you are trying to discount his performances. Let me make this very clear, that Fakhar is a top class batsman and has performed really well. Like a poster mentioned above he has an average of 59 against the top teams and still you call him below par.

My thread is about his knack for making risky shots, something he can improve on. The question about his ability or performances is out of the window.

Fakhar was our best batsmen in NZ where pretty much everyone failed except him. I think playing with Baz has made him super aggressive especially in T20s, he is always itching to hit big shots. I think he will slowing improve.

Once you start trading in what if's all certainties loose currencies. If Bumrah hadn't overstepped Fakhar might not have edged. You have to look at what actually happened and what happened is that Fakhar then went on to play terrific knock under pressure, notable not least for his dismantling of Ashwin and Jadeja. This came on top of a number of important knocks in the earlier stages of the CT tournament. Fakhar is no more and no less than what we know; an aggressive player who has an ability to score when it matters but is often unable to go on to score long innings, and looks lucky very often when playing in his aggressive manner. Not the greatest ODI opener, but very handy so far for Pakistan's purposes.

I know it hurts. If only Bumrah hadn't overstepped, Ashwin and Jadeja would still have LOI careers right now

I rate him as pak's best odi batsman and i never called him below par.
He's a breath of fresh air in your tuk tukiya lineup. But i just said that he wasn't as good after the ct which is not hard to realise.
If indians flocking to this post tells you about
mental impact than just check how many ppers flock to hardik pandya thread.

Fakhar has done more good to india by smashing ash and jaddu.
We now have 2 spinners who average near 20's in odis.
I know. He was instrumental in dishing the biggest phainty India has got in their history and finished the careers of two of their premiere spinners. Sure did some good to India there, mate

Yeah, Fakhar is lucky. As f we've got Jayasuriyas and Sehwags on bench

All that matters is he scores runs and tries to winit for us

Great Reply.

This is the millionth time you are using the same statement about CT Final in the past 1 year. Tells me how much 1 win against India means to you. Keep boasting about it until the next meeting in the World Cup, unforunately 11-0 streak is gonna continue and you are gonna be left with the CT Final memories for your entire lifetime.

I don't know how lucky he is. But Fakhar Zaman is the only Batsman in Pakistan team who has the ability to change the course of a game with his batting. I rate him as the best Bat in the current Pak Squad and if he fails, I don't think there are other Batsmen in this team to Chase a big total and win a game singlehandedly. Babars, Suhails and Talats are no threat to opposition and can never win a Match by chasing big totals.

One alarming issue with Fakhar is that despite scoring lots of runs (and long stay on wicket), his % of getting out to poor shot or desperate slog is too high; which indicates his limitation of 360 degree shot making ability, even when set. Besides, he struggles on wickets where ball doesn’t come on to bat, which is really surprising for a PAK batsman, renowned for their wrist play.

One thing he is doing great is that he’ll never cost his team in LOs like Ahmed or MoHa - if he stays alive, he’ll go after and get it done be through slogging, or he’ll get out quickly for the next man to get enough time. But, he doesn’t give the confidence of a settled batsman, probably which is the reason Arthur is reluctant to play him in Test, despite great attitude & work ethics. He is at his prime age now, but I have seen similar batsmen fading away with age as reflex & eye sight declines after 30 (which is a concern even for Steve Smith). It happened to Greatbatch, Segwag, Philo Wallece, Ramesh Kalu ....... even Viv was a shade after 30 (1983 & after) of his prime between 1976 to 1982 - Fakhar has the chance to improve on that.

At the moment he is in great touch, PAK should cash in as much as possible - he should be a great asset in next 2 ICC events.

This is the millionth time you have got wound up on my statement. Also, this team will break the 11-0 streak next year. Hope you're around this forum, unlike the last time when there was a mass exodus :))

Indians honing in on another player who gave them a phainty. Just like you shout the name Miandad and they start having anuerisms. Used to the same with Afridi too.. any excuse to try and bring down a player thats smashed them at some point. Just a cheap hurkut.

There definite need of adjustment to his technique but by no means is lucky. He is a solid player in LOI, he's also a very key player in our LOI teams.

Breaking the world cup streak? Buhaha! Been hearing it since 25 long years. Say something new. CT final is 1 year news too. Anything new to excite us?

Just because you don't follow Pakistan cricket doesn't mean he hasn't done much. He was spectacular in the NZ ODI and good in T20 series. He was also good in the T20 series against WI. Also 7th highest run scorer in the PSL this season even though his franchise played least number of matches since they were eliminated early.

So as always it is better to educate oneself before running mouth, otherwise they look as you do right now.

He maybe having some technical issues, but I don't consider him as lucky. He is the best LOI bat we have at the moment and he should carry on playing the way he is doing right now. I am sure with time and experience, he can overcome his weaknesses, but he should not change his batting approach.

Oh for gods sake will there ever be a good batsman for Pakistan that is not considered "lucky" and actually recieves praise for his hard work for this lineup
