In the same boat as you bro. In Pakistan when I was a kid I saw my neighbour's driver who was riding his bicycle home get chased down by 2 or 3 dogs and knocked off his bicycle. Before they could do anything major their owners came running to restrain them and apologized to the poor guy. Was 4 or 5 back then, and that made me super cautious in front of dogs.
But when you move to the US you kind of have to get used to it because pretty much every second person here is a dog owner. So whenever I am walking in the park or jogging track and see a dog owner coming by, I switch over to a separate jogging track to avoid getting close to their dog
2 years back me and my brother were getting off the school bus and some lady who lives down the street was walking with her dog (without a leash

) and I guess it was attracted to the leftover shami kebab lunch in my bro's bag and charged at him

, my brother screamed and was running in circles as the dog was chasing him. Had to face the fear that day and swung my own school bag at the dog's snout shooing him off

. Lady thought it was funny so was laughing

, but I told her sternly that it's very irresponsible of her to walk with her dog like that, and if next time one of us hits back if he charges at us like that next time, it won't be our fault

. In Islam dogs are considered an impure animal, guess that's what partly fuels this impulse to avoid contact with dogs.
Fastforward to this year. We got 2 very cute chicks who we we've fed and raised for a good 3 months. Was looking forward to them as full grown rooster / chicken... but the same goddamn dog snuck through our backyard somehow and slashed the poor things up good. Was hard discarding them after the work put in to raise them.
Hate that damn dog...
