How many Pakistani players would get in this England Test side?

I cant think of any. Maybe Shaheen at his peak but other than him I cant think of any one good enough. What do you think?

Babar certainly would and maybe Abrar as well. It doesn't take much to overtake the likes of Leach and Jacks. The spin department is the only major weakness England have in their test side.

Abrar can easily get in. In current form and approach even Babar will struggle to find a spot. Assuming if Bairstow is back it becomes even harder.

Babar, Abrar, and Shaheen would make their squad.

Not sure about XI though.

Abrar might have the best chance since Leach is average. Root already has Babar's role in the team and Bairstow is more in line with Bazball.

Shaheen would likely make it over Wood.

Based on the performances of the 2nd test Saud and Abrar. As we can not judge on just one test overall I see no Pak players good enough to be in the English side.

Wood ATM is a better test bowler than Shaheen. He's done well in Aus and has won his team a test on an absolutely dead pitch neither of which Shaheen has done. I can honestly not think of a single standout performance from Shaheen with the ball in tests against non-minnows.

Don't think Babar will make it as he does not fit into England's current approach and they already have a better version in Root. Shaheen may be as he is an excellent bowler and England would want a good left armer in their line up. Abrar is too new and unless he plays a few games we cannot make that call.

Babar would definitely not. He's been batting pretty average as of late and can't play to their style of cricket at all. Guy can't even hit sixes in T20s when he has a licence to do so let alone test matches.

Shaheen wouldn't either. The pace attack has performed extremely well, Mark Wood complements Anderson amazingly.

The only person a case could be made for is maybe, only maybe Abrar just because they don't have a good long format spinner

Guys of course Babar Azam would get into the England team.

England at the moment (full strength) has three gun Test match batters in Joe Root, Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow, and perhaps two more who are on their way to becoming Test standard longer term (Pope and Brook; I think Brook definitely will.)

There is absolutely space for a chap who averages 47 in Test cricket to come in. Even if Babar played as opener in this team, which despite some recent promise is the batting position that England are still striving to solve (and have been for 10+ years). Babar has to be in there, he’s a class act.

And, I think as much as Jack Leach contributes reasonably well to the England side with ball, bat and in the field, and as a general “team man” & bit of a quirky character, he is arguably not a Test class spinner when it comes down to it. I would take Abrar Ahmed’s mystery spin over Leach’s left arm twirlers.

Im not sure about Shaheen. I think the current England seam bowling attack is absolutely superb. Bear in mind that alongside Anderson, Robinson and Wood, there is also Archer and Broad to come back. I would stick with the England guys on this one.

So, Babar and Abrar for me. Their inclusion would make this England side better.

Only Abrar has a chance if Adil Rashid does not want to play test . Babar, no , England has a set batting order , player with positive intent.

Babar is an inferior batsman to Root & Brook. He cannot open in Tests & Pope is a wicket-keeper. So he will not get into the England XI. He cannot play the Bairstow role either.

Abrar might but early days, Shaheen would in place of Robinson I think. England need a talented left arm fast bowler & Shaheen ticks all the boxes. Tall, fast, skillful.

Brook is good but made to look better due to poor captaincy of Babar and poor bowling of course, same goes for Duckett who is a good gutsy player but Babr keep feeding him his strength, ordinary spinners like Zahid. Crawley is also not better than Babar.
So Babar, Abrar and Shaheen for sure easy walk into this England side.

No top teams will take softie and FTB like Babar. Only Shaheen can make it to any top 4 International team.

What is a softie someone who gets out on good ball, playing positively most of times and averages 48 overall?

So far their approach of bazball is working and yet to be seen what all gaps other teams identify. Then we can say which players are replaceable in current Eng team.

Pope is not a wicket keeper. All eighteen Counties have better keepers than him.

Abrar, and Shaheen.

Babar potentially as well. But he will face far more competition than he does in Pakistan.

I don’t think England have any need for Babar. He wouldn’t fit their risk taking approach anyway. Definitely in the Root / Silverwood days, but not now.

Abrar obviously gets in easily.

Shaheen maybe, but if he’s not currently fit, it’s as futile as discussing Archer
