So our captain has been terribly out of from since last 2 years after a purple patch of 3 years (2014-2016). Right now he is at 1816 runs from 95 odis and 2267 runs from 41 tests. i feel if he gets back to his best he ll score around 3500-3800 runs in odis and 4000-4500 in tests. I would love to be proven wrong and hope Sarfaraz scores more than my predictions. What do you think guys ?

It wouldn't surprise me if he was dropped during or after the series against Aus or NZ. The selection of Rizwan as a back up keeper is a message to Sarfraz from the management and selectors that he needs to justify his place in the side and that they're prepared to drop him. Before Rizwan was selected, Sarfraz probably thought he's cemented a spot until the 2023 WC in all formats on the basis of his CT win.

Ever since he won that tournament last year he has become much more lazy and complacent individual in his diet, practice and training routines.

He is lucky to still be in the XI let alone captain in all 3 formats. None of the other sides (even Ireland and Afghanistan) would tolerate this kind of showing for such an extensive period of time.

It really depends bro

I think less than 3000 in Tests

Around 4-5000 in ODIs

Hard to determine T20s

for that he has to play 100 more odis
do u think he ll carry on to play 200 odis considering his fitness ?

I hope no more than 2000 in odis and 2500 in tests. He should be kicked out from the team.Useless player.

Traditionally Cricket has given preference to effectiveness and impact over fitness, so yes he can continue as long as he remains effective and maintains a reasonable level of fitness. As a player he will have ups and downs so we cannot really say that he will not get that many matches or runs. At the moment he seems to be on a decline and he needs to do something about that

i think from now onwards till 2019 wc will be very important phase of his career.
either it ll make him or break him

I don't see anybody replacing Sarfraz Ahmed anytime soon. He's already 31 so if he manage to double his tally then we are looking at 4500 test runs and 3700 ODI runs @ 30-35 average.

Should retire now if he can prove his worth in side with the bat

True , Kamran Akmal and Moin Khan has 3000+ ODI. Sarfraz is third best with 1816 runs. by next 50 ODI, he should be highest rungetter as WK for Pakistan.

Depends on PCB - how long they want to carry him. To be honest - he doesn’t deserve to play a single more Test or ODI, until his replacement does go for 6 months with 15 average.

Won't - if he keeps his standard intact for last one year. I have seen PAK cricket more than most here.

People at PCB are too cunning - they know exactly to what extent mass people will tolerate and at what point they will snatch their underwear. This Asia cup is a small fish - they have covered it with calling back MoHa and appointing a deputy; but common people won't listen to their "explanation" if PAK ends at 6th-7th at the table in WC - it'll be painful blast.

If Sarfraz keeps performing like last 15 months, and PAK keeps their consistency against any team above 8th in ranking table - Sarfraz will be injured or he might "take a break" to focus on personal issues after SAF tour. We have plenty of cricket in next 4 months, excluding Tests, 8 T20s & 13 ODIs - that's 21 confirmed LO games before WC. Do you think if Farfraz scores 343 in these 21 innings (combined, not in one innings) & PAK loses 4 or 5 of these 6 series haplessly, he'll stay there? I watched last 3 hours of Dubai Test last morning - PAK is still in full command, but Sarfraz's facial expression was like a local goon in remand in-front of OC of Local Thana; it's not by chance.

I think Sarfraz will be age like wine (for lack of a better analogy). He will peak in performance as he gets closer to retirement. He will be in his 40s and people will be calling for him to stay. I think he will end up with 13000+ career runs across all formats.

The next few months will determine exactly which path his career will take. If he manages to get his act together and bring back the Sarfraz of old ('14-'15) then he will perform decently in the WC19 and will play till at least WC23 if he can repeat the purple patch he had a few years back. Currently, I think today will also be important for him as we are in a decent position to attack once we cross 300. This platform is great for someone like Sarfraz to take advantage of and to find some form. If he is able to have a few good series' in the next few months then he will retire after 4-5 years with around 4-5K runs in ODI's.

On the other hand, if this downward fall continues, he won't be part of the national team after 2020, I think. In that case, he won't cross 3K ODI runs.
