I think the fundamental mistake made by Inzi and co was not taking into the variation in conditions you can get over almost two months in the UK. After our bilateral series an assumption was made that conditions and pitches would be similar. This was a mistake for two reasons. First weather conditions in England can change drastically from day to day and secondly pitch preparation was under ICC not ECB purview. In this situation the selectors should have chosen as versatile a squad as possible. Atleast two proper new ball bowlers should have been included. You had Aamir but either Junaid or even Abbas should have been considered in the 15. Haris was kept as an option as an extra batsmen in difficult conditions but the same wasnt done on the bowling side. Just as it was a mistake to include 2 38 year olds. It was also a mistake to include 2 19 year old pace bowlers one of whom had played less than 10 List A or ODI matches. Just imagine if you had the option of choosing Abbas or Junaid for the Aus or India matches. Sure against England at Nottingham you may have preferred more pace and reverse swing but when you have to select 15 its all about leaving yourself different options.

Ideally only one of Hasnain/Shaheen should have been selected.

Only one of Hafeez/Malik should have been selected

Asif Ali was a useless selection

That's 3 spots that are taken up.
