How would 2nd XI Pak team look like and would it be any better or worse than the current team?

[MENTION=6603]muqarrab[/MENTION] asked a question in "Pak cricket requires a clean up thread" that what could be our 2nd XI rightly mentioning that talent possibly coming out is not upto the top team level.

It was a pretty interesting question and when I thought about it we have quite a few same level of cricketers which can easily make another team as well without showing much difference in the class of main team vs the 2nd team. I am pretty sure other than 2-4 guys we wont even be able to argue a lot about the quality and the performances of both the teams.

This just proves we dont have much players we can say are world class and can win us matches against top 3-4 teams consistently but, we have quite a few mid tier players which also is manifested in our rankings as well across the formats.

Below is my attempt at 2nd string 20 man ODI squad and I believe can give tough time to the main team and cant do much better or worse than the main team did recently at international level as well.

Pakistan team have a special talent when it comes to embarrassing themselves playing cricket - I would go as far as saying Pakistan senior team could even be embarrassed and outclassed when playing against Pakistan U15 team.

Have to agree with this, Pak team tries extra hard to match the level of its opposition and now a days they are finding it easier to match teams supposedly worse than them.

Good thread, I agree. The main team would get beat by your proposed team handily.

Whether it is the first, second or third team, they are all equally mediocre which clearly shows that there is a serious talent crisis in Pakistan.

When you look at the potential replacements of all the poor players in the first team, you realize that they are not going to be upgrades, and this is why there is no light at the end of the tunnel.

Pakistan is incapable of producing top cricketers. We haven’t figured out a system so far and we will not do it in the future.

The only way Pakistan can come out of this rut is if a 5-6 extraordinary talented cricketers emerge at the same time.

However, the possibility of that happening is virtually zero, which means that Pakistan is basically condemned to perpetual mediocrity.

As I have said multiple times, the onus is on the fans to lower their expectations. Throughout the world, sports fans celebrate mediocre teams and they find happiness and joy in that mediocrity.

Norwich City fans know that they will never win the PL, but it does not stop them from supporting their team and it does not stop them from getting excited.

They don’t call for wholesale changes and for their managers to be sacked because they didn’t win the PL or quality for the UCL.

They know their level and they expect performances and results based on that level.

Pakistani fans should be like them. This massive gap between the expectations of the fans and the actual capability and capacity of Pakistan cricket needs to be bridged.

Accept the fact that we are a mediocre cricket nation that belongs in roughly the same category as sides like Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and West Indies etc.

We might be slightly better but we are in no way a top team from any angle and as a result, we need to stop coming up with fantasy teams that would propel us to elite status and we need to stop bashing the coaches and selectors for not winning a series that they were not supposed to win in the first place.

We cannot have the status of teams like India, Australia, England and now New Zealand. As long as fans don’t accept the reality and remain in denial, the disappointment will be huge.

We saw the 2nd string play ODI's against Australia in 2019.

While it wasn't quite a total humiliation it was still a 5-0 outcome.

He had an excellent Sri Lanka ODI series where he picked up 4 wickets in the first ODI and then wickets again in the subsequent ODI's. Next thing you know he is not playing for Pakistan in their next ODI assignment against Zimbabwe and has been out of the picture since. This is what happens when players are picked and dropped on the basis of likes and dis likes.

Pakistan unfortunately has regressed too much. First step is the accept the fact Pakistan does lack talent , unless you accept it , you can never solve the problem.

True. How Shinwari has been dropped from ODIs is just mind boggling. Yes in T20s he deserved to be dropped but, the way Pak management and selectors mix the formats is pretty odd.

If it requires a clean up then malik shouldn't be in the any squad same with Amir and Wahab
