The recent euphoria over a possible European League got me thinking over how the Old Firm would perform in a British League. Both have a large fan base around the world and would have much more money available. Would they win it, be relegated or finish mid table? I say they will finish mid table. With Steven Gerrard at the helm I have a soft spot for Rangers:asad1

They've got decent financial pull and massive support but the tables have turned drastically in Glasgow. Top 6 contenders, with increased revenue, they'd be vying for titles

Rangers mid-table.

Celtic relegation zone.

I don't really rate Scottish football. One just has to see ow both teams do in Europe.

Both would be relegation candidates.

However, once in the PL, Celtic & Rangers will then spend more, have better players and eventually Celtic would be title condentors, not sure about Rangers as they have less support.

As a Celtic supporter, I’d love to see our team compete in the premier league, no one wants to watch Celtic playing against 17 year old school drop outs.

People are not taking into account that by being in premier league they will earn more money and sponsors which will automatically mean strong recruitment

Currently, they are mid table candidates with Rangers doing a bit better than Celtic. But I agree, both have high upsides and are way too big for the Scottish Premiership.

After a few years, they potentially could be competing for top four. The Celtic team that got to the UEFA Final in 2003 would certainly fall in that category and they also knocked out English teams, Blackburn and Liverpool if my memory serves me correctly.

The same could be said about the UEFA Final reaching Rangers team of 2008 although they were a bit weaker. The fan base and size of the clubs would inform us that competing for the top honours would be a real possibility.

As the financial gain of the top five European leagues has allowed them to pull away from the rest of the clubs in Europe, the Old Firm are no longer able to attract the top players like they once used such as Henrik Larsson (rated no.2 in Celtic's all time best players) and Gazza at Rangers. You may get the odd anomaly here and there at best.

Its more about picking young potential and selling on for profit, see Virgil van Dyke, Kieran Tierney etc. nowadays. This has been more the case with Celtic as Rangers have had to rebuild and start again from rock bottom since 2012 when they were liquidated.

However, this is all moot point as its been talked about for years but its not going to happen in its current state. There have been rumours that the 'big six' would invite the Old Firm to join a British Super League but we all know how well the idea of a European Super League went down with fans.

Nice to see my team Rangers being discussed in the forum. Im a lifelong rangers fan.

The old firm are along with Manchester United and Liverpool the biggest football clubs in Britain. Rangers back in the 1990s was one of the best teams in Britain with the likes of gazza and laudrup in the team. We had other really good players like gattuso, giovani van bronkorst, the de boer brothers.

However, ever since then massive broadcasting companies like Sky started investing heavily into the English game which left the old firm unable to compete.

Now, how would the current old firm teams get on in England? I would say celtic would be near the relegation zone and rangers would be midtable but just a couple of seasons of the old firm getting the big money in England would see them improve rapidly and they would eventually be top 4 sides and in contention for the title.
