Asad Shafiq at a media interaction:

"The camps are good for us all to train together and helps to build teamwork, the facilities here are top class. If we miss anything during our individual training then we can complete it here"

"In the first week we're just focusing on fitness, there's one session in the morning at 7am and then one at 3pm. There's no nets in the first week, just gym and ground training. I think after that we'll start batting and bowling in the nets"

"We're fortunate to have Misbah bhai with us, he has done a lot for Pakistan so for all the guys as batsmen, it's a good opportunity to learn from him. I have played with him, but it's a good chance for those who haven't to learn from him"

"If we lose series, it's not because of bowling or batting specifically, we play badly as a team so we lose. In Dubai, batsmen have performed very well. I admit that outside UAE, the batsmen haven't been up to the mark"

"It's difficult when there's a large gap between series, I was trying to practice at my club and I work on my fitness. If you don't have match practice, it becomes difficult. Now the domestic season is coming up so that will be good preparation for the upcoming series"

"Responsibility has increased on us after Misbah and Younis' departure. We should have performed better than we have after they left. Myself and Azhar bhai haven't played many big innings but we have this in our minds, that we need to take responsibility. We haven't been able to convert innings into big innings like they used to"

"In the last 3 years, I have been playing domestic One Dayers also and have been performing well. Whatever's in my hands, I do that. Selection is in the selectors' hands. I just want to keep improving as a batsman"

"I never felt that Misbah bhai is too strict. It's true that he doesn't compromise on things like fitness. He works a lot with juniors, he sits with them and talks to them and also explains. He's very co-operative but you have to work hard"

"I have batted a lot at number 6 in my first 5-6 years, it's a big disadvantage because you can't score big runs as you often have to bat with the tail. Now I am batting higher up the order so I will try to improve"

"Players who are coming in the team are very good and they have the capability of doing well for Pakistan and helping us win series"

Even in UAE you've failed. Where were you in those two close Abu Dhabi runchases vs SL and NZ ?

You're all talk and no action.

He is the personification of TTF.

I think it is the opposite.

Under Mickey we were batting really well outside UAE.

Outside UAE? Against Srl and NZ most of the batsmen failed in UAE as well.

He should be called most luckiest player to play more than 50 test .He is extremely lucky that Pakistan test matches schedule is messed up the huge gap in test matches have save him otherwise he would have been long gone .

Shafiq is 34 is January and has been pretty average now over the last 2-3 years. He's not going to suddenly get better in his mid 30s so what's the point in continuing to select him?

What do Pakistani selectors see in him?

Listening to him talk, he still seems to have the mentality of a junior player. Very uninspiring.

Proper mental midget this guy. He will never take responsibility and stand up when required. The sooner we move on from him and Azhar, who is now finished, the better.

MISBAH made his debut at 33 so asad has a decade left in his career, that is what Pak selectors see in him....

The problem is if they lose one or two matches when these 2 are dropped they will comeback without improving anything and the cycle continues...

I understand that the test batsmen who dont play other formats have it tougher because of big breaks in schedule, but you can compensate by trying to play first class cricket in the UK etc. But for that you need to average more that 40 and your away tour scores shouldn't three ducks followed by a useless half century.

This guy is absolutely trash!

To have an average in the high 30's, batting at no. 6 and playing mostly is Asia is simply unacceptable.

He should have stood up, when Pak lost the home series' against SL and NZ, but he couldn't because he is mediocre.

He needs to be out of the the team asap!!

True. He only maintains his own average by playing inconsequential innings, Almost never wins a match for the team.

For cricketing reasons alone, playing in UAE has hardly helped in the development of Pakistan’s players and the slow and lifeless pitches have not produced any interesting cricket , and mostly played in front of empty stands anyway - might as well play home games in Sri Lanka, South Africa or even stop playing home games altogether unless teams agree to play in Pakistan and in the interim just play ‘home’ test series between Pakistan XI v Rest of Pakistan XI with an aim to build a strong pool of talent to represent Pakistan on overseas tours and increase the frequency of overseas tours ideally to Eng, Aus, NZ and SA to give players maximum exposure to those conditions.

The golden boy

Protected by Misbah
The fact he hides at 6 still is shocking

Should be at 3/4

Poor batsman
Poor mentality

If misbah becomes the head coach though
Don't be shocked if they bring him back to the odi side

Im sure he will be back in odis for experience if Misbah is the chief selector, might even be the vice captain.

Hid behind Younis Khan and Misbah for years.

When it was his time to step up, he has disappeared and been found wanting.

cannot remember a 100 or a significant score where he wasnt given atleast 1 life line... almost all his 100z have had him getting dropped once or twice .... Misbah n Younas took almost all the pressure and he managed some scores... one of the most useless batsmen to play for pak (min criteria 50 tests)

He also just got older and moved past his peak...

His FC track record is pretty identical to what he's produced in Tests so I'm not sure how much more people expected. An above average piece in the batting lineup but not the KEY guy and his FC track record never suggested it either.

Even all the 100's he's scored have been useless he's never won us a match.

Pakistan haven't found replacements for Misbah/YK yet. Test performance hasn't been great ever since the two greats retired.

Can Babar fill the void left by YK?

Speaking to media today

"The reason for the low strike rates in our previous game was the pitch, the pitch for the next game seems to have some grass on it and we hope it will be a little better for the fast-bowlers"

"In the past we have seen pitches where 4 day games have ended in 2 days and some where even 2 innings have not completed in 4 days, so we need pitches which help the batsmen and the bowlers too, this is the only way we can improve our cricket"

"There will be a difference in our cricket due to Misbah being appointed as coach; He as a calm and cool personality, he does not panic; I have experience of playing under his captaincy and there have been situations where I have been wondering how we will handle this but Misbah stayed calm and controlled the situation"

"He has experience and also won many games for Pakistan and I have learnt a lot from Misbah and its also a good opportunity for the new players to improve themselves; Misbah has played around the world and knows conditions well and can prepare the side well"

"As far as Mohammad Hasnain is concerned, I think PCB have called him back from CPL, I dont know the date on which he will join us, I will let you know when I find out"

"Spectators are waiting for the SL Series as our my family members who are asking for tickets"

Talk nah
Your batting even in UAE is just a garbage, u are the luckiest bat to play so many tests for Pakistan

How has Hasanain not returned yet?

Looks like he's at the NCA.

I'm sure under Sarfaraz's captaincy he will be given more chances, but I really don't see him as a leader with the bat, someone who can win his team matches.
