Haider Ali speaking in PCB video after win in the Tri-series final:

"The required rate had gone up to about 11 so Nawaz told me that we would hit with the wind and not against it"

"I was not performing that well in the previous games, but thanks to the Almighty, but I have got a big morale boost because of this innings"

"I would like to thank the team management and players who kept my morale up in every game, I would also like to thank my family as they have really supported me well and because of that I have been able to achieve something for my team today"

"I am looking forward to the World Cup, I am fully prepared for that and will do my best to support the middle-order in that tournament"

Loved the way he approached his innings - just one issue is that when we were down to almost a run a ball, he should have taken stock and done the singles thing.

Proper batsman. Proper stroke maker. Crisp hitter.

Not tullaybaaz like Asif or Khushdil. It's a travesty that he hasn't been able to translate his ability into performances but he has only himself to blame.

Hope today's innings will be a turning point for him. All he needs to do is play proper shots and show good temperament. He has the power and talent for the rest to take care of itself.

Seriously if Haider Ali can play impactful innings like the one that we witnessed in a consistent manner, he will be the X factor and can take Pakistan deep into WC. He showed how to play real T20 cricket. The way he was finding gaps against pace showcased his talent. He is a hard hitter by nature and expecting him to build innings is not his game. Quick fire of 20-35 runs can change the landscape of the game.

Part of the blame definitely goes to PCB for dropping him when he was performing 3 games on the trot.

After being selected again after being dropped it became apparent this lad was worried about his place in the team and getting dropped again- and so became stuck in his own head.

Only way to play for this pathetic cricket board is to throw caution to the wind. They’ll drop you based on their mood swing, so why not always put your best foot forward. I think he realized that yesterday.

Breath of fresh air to finally see a proper stroke maker and someone who can hit it hard. Full range of shots, backing away, cutting and lofting were quite crisp. Honestly seems like a gem when others who may be effective but just don't seem to be top class with their shots: Shaan, Ifthikar, Nawaz, Asif etc

We definitely need to hold on to him and support him. Lad got really good potential if he applies himself.

In Pakistan, all you need is 1 innings and you can play without accountability for a good 30 games. There's nothing to suggest that Haider is a good T20 batsman or that he will make consistent 30 runs in 20 balls. He is a tailender when it comes to playing decent pace. Mark Wood made him look like a rabbit caught in the headlights. Great innings in the final. However, fed off Sodhi's harmless spin. Good for him he didn't have to face Milne or Lockie.

Pakistan has no standards and this minnow mentality has crept into the players as well. It takes the bare minimum for a player to become a hero in this country.

Haider Ali is puffing his chest today and his getting showered with praises as if he has performed a miracle.

All he did was score a rapid 31 after literally failing for a dozen matches, and even today he got out without finishing the job.

Apparently that is all it takes to become a hero among the fans.

I keep hoping that after every decent knock it's the launchpad for his career, but then he flops in the next few innings.

Let's hope he has a great World Cup and becomes an integral player fir Pakistan.

So for how long would you like to run through the mill to keep running the cycle of testing players out after a number of failures? People like you will find an excuse to criticize regardless because that's all you are good for and that's what you are known for here.

If anything this is good for a change that we are not seeing the old mentality of fail a few-get dropped forever. If a player shows potential he should be backed, this is the mentality that sets apart sporting nations or in cricket England/Australia with
South Asian teams.

To be fully prepared to play in the world cup he will have to learn to deal with the short ball. NZ don't really have genuine pace bowlers any more, at least none of them looked up to mcuh on this tour. Boult looks like he has lost some zip, and Southee is a medium pace swing bowler these days, albeit a fine one.

Haider played a match winning knock today, but we already knew he could hit big against slower bowlers. Although to be fair, he's been failing against all types recently so fair play for this one.

too much is made of pakistani batsmen against extreme pace. I think its over rated. In T 20 they all go for runs and extreme pace without swing is worthless. Also there are only certain number of short balls they can bowl due to the rule and being called for wides. I think the biggest hindrance is their head. Our guys simply need to play fearlessly and do not need to worry about failure.

Haider was trying to play the short balls from the quicks off his front foot. It can be done, but you need to be a seriously good player to pull that off.

He needs to work on his strike rotation. But wit that being said, he played a solid knock and seems to have discovered some form.

A certain Inzamam Ul Haq came to age in windy conditions at New Zealand all those years ago. Let's hope Haider can do something similar in the T20 world cup!

He plays a good knock and then goes missing for the next many games. The timing hasn't deserted him but he just doesn't have the brain to align his shots well. I'd say he is someone who makes bad decisions on the pitch. Not expecting much from him for wt20 but the only way for him to play is to go for the kill from the word go. It might come off at times. But I'm usually disappointed by him to not being able to put his fast bat speed and power to good use. Very similar to Imran Nazir but at the moment Imran Nazir looks a superior version of Haider.

I do hope he comes of age quickly and become a good batter.

One inning of 31(15) and he is a proper batsman. Until yesterdays match, Pak fans were asking for his head and how he is absolute garbage.

A guy scored 31 runs after scoring single digit score in more than 10 games and already earned a thread on this forum, amazing .

As a young batsman he shouldn’t be written off because he was trying in the other matches he just couldn’t get going the worst thing would be if he made a slow 50 he’s done the right thing either get out early or score some quick runs that’s the sign of a team player not statpadding making match losing scores.

He should make tests his main priority he has potential to succeed there and in ODIs as an opening batsman he should aim for that role.

Good work from him but really needs to think before these wild slogs

He seems confident.

To be fair to him, he played a blinder in the last T20 (tri-series final). He seems to be in good form.

I can see his footwork and positioning is better with the short ball.

He is slowly looking better. Could potentially peak at the right time.

all he needs to do is slog off side balls over the off side, that is it, change nothing else about his game, and he will do a job for pakistan.

I am more concerned about his fitness and fielding. Dropped a catch and misfielded twice to concede boundaries on the boundary. This guy is 22 years old and is already carrying a paunch. It is clear the PCB have given him plenty of leeway.

Need to work on his offside game.

But his fitness looks appalling as well as his fielding.

Please never make such comparisons ever again. Like, actually never.

We are all fully prepared and looking at the quick exit from the WC bro 😅

idk y our players have the audacity to think so highly after scoring a measly score as if he hit a 100...

Back to old habits? Can he not see the current match situation?

Same shots at all venues, against every opposition irrespective of the match situation.

It rarely works.

Haider Ali is that typical tullebaaz Afridi-type batsman Pakistan seem to possess in every street corner. Useless.

No idea what the plan was here.

Look at the boundaries, look at the field placings, size up the weak bowlers, look at your hitting areas.

Think man !

Wrong format. He should be in the longer format of the game. Look at his strike rate during U19s World Cup; it’s clear he is suited more to test cricket or ODI.

Having said that, he lacks intelligence and awareness. Silly shot to get out to when you had Ashwin coming in next. In such situations 10-15 quick fire runs can be crucial as Shaheen showed.

Can't stand this parchi. Only in Pakistan players like Asif, Khusdil, Haider can play matches after matches without scoring a decent 50.

If I have to choose between Khusdil and Haider. I will choose Khusdil at least he can score around 15-20 runs. Where Haider scores 5-10 runs.

This idiot should never play for Pakistan. Doesn't have any talent to start with.

Race to the bottom between him and Asif.

Even HARDIK was laughing at his pathetic dismissal :)

He has zero temparament. His innings against NZ was a farce as he took a liking to Sodhi. Not every team will offer dollies like Sodhi. with Haider, kushdil and Asif as the middle order its difficult to see Pakistan in the semis. All three have no match awareness whatsoever.

Which is why I want Pakistan to take a bold gamble and attack with 5 pacers on these Australian wickets. Asif, Haider cannot be relied upon with the bat but if Pakistan ruthlessly attacks with the ball and strives to pick up twenty wickets in the tournament, they will provide themselves the best chance of being remotely competitive

It was like taking candy from a little child.

That dismissal was so predictable, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

Haha I know. Even the Indian players were surprised at how easily they got that wicket.

He has no idea how to score runs anymore. From a career that promised so much, he has become a shockingly poor player. Back to domestic and hard work

I saw him getting out in the PSL in some match in Karachi and realised that this guy makes UA look like Einstein. One of the dangers of picking overaged players for u19 is shown by the decline of this guy

Pakistan basically gifted 2 wickets to Hardik. Haider especially was horrible. Melbourne has long square boundaries and it is hard to clear them. I was more surprised with the mindless hit from Shadab. He has played in BBL and for sure understands the Australian grounds better than the young players. His shot was more perplexing considering Pakistan needed a partnership at that time after losing Iftikhar.

Typical batting from Haider still hasn't learnt on how to give him self a few balls to get settled.

Very harsh. Pakistan have given him no time to develop due to their desperation to find hard hitters.

He obviously has raw talent but needed a few solid years in domestics like any other batter would. Maybe he would have been ready by now.

With Haider it also isn't a matter of talent, but rather a matter of brains. Sadly he has none.

He did this throughout the England series and it made no difference. 11 (11) is a waste of Haider's natural game.

We need to stop shunting him into the middle order like we did with Umar Akmal. Haider needs to be at the top and told to go for it. This approach suits his game and stops him needing to use his brain too much.

I feel sorry for the guy because he does have loads of raw ability. Even Mamoon was impressed by him in the beginning until he faded.

The problem is he's been poorly coached and not been given enough exposure to domestic cricket.

Why pick a mindless slogger in the first place ??

watched him live on 23/10, he is easily the 2nd worst fielder ( Asif tops)

He cant play short ball so no thanks, i would rather have an injured FK

2 runs in 2 innings.

Surely he is a better batter than what we have seen, or will he continue with this mediocrity.

Ofcourse he is a better player than this but this is a classic example of what happens when you routinely persist with out of form, short of runs, devoid of confidence players for such a long time period, you do them a dis-service.

Khusdil apparently broke down in Karachi after another failure and since then the team management has dropped him because that shows he does not have the mental toughness needed for international cricket.

This was a recipe for disaster taking so many out of form, short of confidence players to such a big WC tournament in Australia.

He has been given enough chances. I'm starting to wonder if we have already seen the real Haider Ali.

This guy has now worked with Inzamam, Mathew Hayden, Hashim Amla, Younis Khan, Mohd Yousaf. Zero improvement in his batting, he has already gone the Umar Akmal route.

Judging by his horrendous fitness levels, doesn't strike me as a hard working lad.

Not much to show for on this trip - consistent failure and not hope for him.

Is he ready for the ODI World Cup too?

He’s had a few good last couple of games but he needs time to develop domestically and Mickey seems like a good mentor. He’s still ‘young’, according to his stated official age.

My opinion, he has too many shots in his arsenal and a lack of weighing out cost benefit of each shot which results in poor shot selection.

Think he needs at least a year in domestic otherwise if he plays internationally and doesn’t perform his confidence will take a huge hit.

If he can have a good One Day Cup and Mickey is still around for the World Cup, then I am expecting him to make the cut for the squad.

The One Day Cup that he's playing in at the moment is mostly fringe players, youngsters and players not picked in The Hundred.

Not a great standard to be honest.
