"I am heartbroken at missing out on PSL4" : Zeeshan Malik

poor guy :( from my city --- once again :(

Hopefully he can leave his mark in national one day cup post PSL. Disappointing for him but shouldn't be end of the world.

Did Rashid Latif select Jaahid Ali based on pure talent or nepotism last year? The guy along with that dr nauman talk big so i am just wondering.

Sucks that he won't be in PSL 5. It's only a matter of time before he's selected for the national team, and I really hope he absolutely smashes it.

Nepotism. But Jaahid seems well connected because LQ has selected him this year.

His inclusion in PSL was necessary so that he could get selected for WT20 in Australia next year considering his strong back foot game. His non-selection in PSL is not only hurting him but Pakistan cricket as well.

The guy has a shot a ball, and that is his problem. He is like Imran Nazir.

You can’t write off a player just based on one game. Zeeshan has performed in List A cricket, so if he is given a decent run, I think he will deliver.

PSL = Mates and Buddies League.

Expect more youngsters to be heartbroken over the coming years.

The selectors are making a monkeys of franchise owners. They trust these losers, those losers are picking their friends to repay favours

Zeeshan Malik 12 off 14 in the T20 game today vs MCC

Northern Head Coach Mohammad Wasim is backing top-order batsman Zeeshan Malik to leave a mark in the six-team tournament. The 23-year-old Zeeshan has graduated from the Northern Second XI side and he possesses all the skills and shots to thrive at this level.

Zeeshan hit a blazing 216 for Northern in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy first-class event last season and Wasim believes the stroke maker can turn it on in T20 cricket as well.

Mohammad Wasim: “Zeeshan is a very impressive batsman; he is one of those players who are a treat to watch when in full flow. His strength is his cut shot. Last year, he was unfortunate to miss out on representing us in the National T20 Cup but this year he has the opportunity to impress when he takes the field. Since the tournament is being played on a double-league format, Zeeshan should get the opportunities to express his talent and make a name in the shortest format of the game. I really hope he can make them count and further develop as a player with a bright future ahead of him.”

Zeeshan made 77 (46 balls, 8x4s, 3x6s)

Great to see him take his chance well, hopefully he scores more runs in the tournament.

I think he will make it into PSL and eventually Pakistan team. Bound to happen.

In the next edition of PSL, Lahore Qalandars should pick him instead of the duds like Salman Butt & Jahid Ali.

I can't make sense of his not selection. He is readymade product. At 20 he can deliver as a top order bat. You don't even have to invest time in him.

And its not like PSL has many Local top order superstars.

How do you know of him? Even Pakistanis barely know about him.

Watched some highlights. Scanned some scorecards. In t20s top order you don't need to check defense or temperament that much. Made my judgement.

Still can't understand why he didn't have PSL contract long time ago. Are franchises that foolish or something more sinister?

You need to be more than a decent cricketer to be picked for the PSL. A lot of the time franchises are forced to pick certain players.

The potential is there. Let’s see what the guy does.

Pakistan’s upcoming batting talent is very promising and I believe all the youngsters can be groomed properly.

Exciting times ahead for Pakistani fans!

Very exciting but he needs to perform consistently but very good start the 6 off shaheen thou wow

So a step closer to a Pakistan slot, as he has been selected for tour of New Zealand

Most likely he will feature for the Shaheens when he should be replacing Fakhar Zaman who struggled against Zimbabwe.

I'd like to see two aggressive openers in Zeeshan Malik and Haider Ali in LOIs where they're given license to attack the Powerplay overs.

I think it's a good move to play him in the shaheens if he performs he can okay in the next pak series if he doesnt then he cant moon about not getting a chance

Don’t quite think he’s international level. He forces his shots a bit much and doesn’t seem to have the natural talent to score quickly in international cricket.

Yeah I feel the same way. Domestic performances should at least get a call up to the Shaheens however so I'd be happy to be proven wrong. His current form in the QeA trophy isn't great though.

Rapid rise for him.

Big chance after many disappointments over the years.

Pleased for him.

Hopefully he takes this opportunity with both hands. With Abid Ali likely to have a difficult tour Zeeshan must make sure he's the successor.

I don’t think Zeeshan Malik is the answer. But I hope he does well.

Zeeshan's been called up to the Shaheens to have a go at the 'dynamic t20 opener' role that Fakhar is currently having trouble in. Other options tried by Misbah include Ahmed Shehzad (Not in the conversation) and Ahsan Ali (Not in the conversation). Remaining alternatives that could be feasible, are Sharjeel and Zeeshan Ashraf. However, they have fitness issues and will have to get fit to be on contention, as confirmed by Misbah in the Zim squad announcement presser.

The irony is that the ideal scenario would be for Zeeshan Ashraf to open with Babs, as with his keeping it kills two birds with one stone. You can then have a genuine hitter like Sohaib Maqsood come in at 3. However, fitness again is an issue here.

So, in closing I agree that Zeeshan Malik isn't a sure thing, but unfortunately the cupboard otherwise is a bit bare

Also, not exactly on subject, but they really should consider Fakhar at 5, especially in ODIs and maybe in t20s as well. He's great against spin and can provide some ballast in the middle/final overs

Very interesting choice, though not sure how long Fakhar can survive if there are more than 2 fielders outside the inner circle. Even with just two, he always manages to find one of them.

Mohammad Wasim on Zeeshan Malik:

PakPassion.net: Zeeshan Malik is a player who you have given opportunities to. How far do you think can he go in his career?

Mohammad Wasim: I had been following Zeeshan’s progress during the time I was commentating but was surprised to see that he was nowhere to be seen when I first joined the PCB recently. He had been playing in domestic cricket but did not get consistent chances in First-class cricket which he deserved. I gave him an opportunity to shine in our First XI and he never looked back and grabbed that opportunity with both hands.

To me he is one of those batsmen who look to take the attack to the bowlers in red-ball cricket. He is very good on his backfoot and this is one important quality that coaches are always looking for in batsmen. Quite a few batsmen are very comfortable on the front foot and get many runs on pitches such as in the UAE but they struggle the moment they are in England, Australia or South Africa where there are bouncier wickets. This is why I have always believed that as a top-order batsman you need to be very good on the back foot. Zeeshan has all those qualities and not only is he good in the longer format of the game, he has also showed some real intent in T20s as well. He has all the strokes and can cut and pull with ease. I am really looking forward to seeing him perform for the Shaheens on the tour of New Zealand and I am sure he is the kind of batsman that Pakistan needs in all formats of the game where he can play with a very good strike rate.

Let's hope he gets some game time and isn't just there as a drinks boy.

Bad luck for him
Sharjeel and Babar are karachi openers should have gone to Islamabad united or Peshawar Zalmi.

Playing in the silver category so may not get a chance to play much unless babar plays at 3

Salman Butt
Shan Masood
Awais Zia
Azam Khan
Jaahid Ali
Khurram Manzoor

How can anyone with an iota of cricket knowledge pick the above players ahead of Zeeshan

Khurram and Awais Zia are useless, Shan is in because he can speak English, Azam is in because of his Father, Cricket is becoming like Pakistani Siasak.

Whatever I have seen of him, he is not a exciting talent. Very limited in his approach

Instead of recycling Hafeez malik maxoods invest in this guy, he could easily become paks David Miller type of player !

Can’t believe someone like Umar Akmal and Sarfraz who are done and dusted in internationals for the most part keep getting selected meanwhile the young blood is kept out.

Compare this to IPL where the big teams have no hesitation in offering big contracts to budding new talent.

Btw, this is coming from a previous fan of Umar Akmal. If he comes to form, great. But he’s been languishing in 2nd XIs over the past year and is a shoe in.

It’s only on reputation.
