"I decided that if I leave captaincy then I can contribute better to the Pakistan team" : Azhar Ali

Azhar Ali speaking on TV:

"When we played against Zimbabwe at home, the support of the home crowd made us realise what a great setback it was with intl cricket not being played in Pakistan"

"Its a matter of great joy that cricket, whether ODI or T20I, is taking place in Pakistan"

"The moment of scoring 300 is special and when I scored that in Dubai, I had just about raised my bat to the part of the ground where a few people were sitting when the applause stopped as there was hardly anyone there"

"It would have been a different matter if this match would have been played on Pakistani soil"

"I was given a role to play in the CT and as a senior player I played that role"

"My ODI batting has started to improve (after losing captaincy) as being captain of Pakistan team is not that easy due to the extra criticism he gets"

"I decided that if I leave this (Captaincy) then I can contribute better to the Pakistan team"

"If I get a ticket then I will go and watch the World XI games"

One of few players who deserved to play in Pak vs World XI local games. He has played his whole career in deserts and other countries while winning so many tests for Pakistan. I hated him for sticking with ODI captaincy but lets not forget the fact that he performed real good in tests over the years, and unlike Younis Khan, Misbah. He doesnt even know the feelings of Playing international game in home grounds (Minus Zim series).

Agree, these T20s are like exhibition matches. I won't mind if even Younis and Misbah play them.

I think a lot of pressure was put on Azhar in ODIs, especially by the press brigade.

But then, this is what Intl cricket is about.

an example to whiners like shehzad and UA... TEMPERAMENT is the word which not all players have...he has and survives in int'l cricket..

Completely the wrong attitude. These are IT20s and should be treated as such- ie. pick the best players for the format.

Azhar is a great servant of Pakistan Cricket, but he is rightly not part of the t20 squad. His chance to play in Pakistan will come soon.

With all dues respect. His services to Pakistani cricket notwithstanding. Etc etc. We know it wasn't his decision. He was first asked politely to leave but stubbornly refused, even as it was obvious to everyone but peter Rose that he should leave.
