VARANASI: The Vanara Sena organisation has lodged a complaint accusing filmmaker SS Rajamouli of allegedly hurting Hindu sentiments with his remarks against Lord Hanuman, police said on Tuesday, news agency ANI reported.

The complaint relates to comments made by Rajamouli during a promotional event in Hyderabad for his upcoming film Varanasi.

The filmmaker had participated on 15 November at the 'Globe Trotter' event, where he reportedly made the remarks while facing technical glitches.

A police official said, "Yesterday we received a complaint from Vanarasena alleging that filmmaker SS Rajamouli hurt Hindu feelings by saying, 'I don't believe in God Hanuman,' at the Varanasi movie teaser launch in Ramoji Film City.
So far, we have not registered a case."

The official added that the police are currently investigating the matter.

The Globe Trotter event was attended by thousands of fans, including visitors from different countries. It marked the release of the teaser, the first look of actor Mahesh Babu, and the title reveal of Varanasi.

The lead cast present at the event included Mahesh Babu, Prithviraj Sukumaran, and Priyanka Chopra. In the film, Priyanka Chopra will play the role of Mandakini, while Prithviraj Sukumaran will portray Kumbha.

Varanasi is scheduled for release during Sankranti 2027.

Do you agree with what he said? @Champ_Pal :inti
What is there to agree? It is his opinion. If he does not believe in Hanuman, then it is his choice.
People making a police complaint are stupid. These Vanara Sena folks do not believe in Allah or Jesus or Yahweh. It will be silly to make a complaint on them.

Basically people have too much time and doing stupid things to show their presence. I have never heard of this vanara sena before. Just getting their 5 mins of fame. Police should laugh it off and disperse them quickly.

If you don't believe in Hanuman, then why to speak publicly about it.... if you speak such things publicly then you are inviting criticism and trouble for yourself.

He has a 1000 crore budget movie coming up. Banning it would make him remember all the Hindu Gods. He can now make movies on sand villagers in another country and let Hindu mythologies and culture alone for commercial benefit if he doesn’t believe in our cultural beliefs.

That's very intolerant of you.. if you think this is justified.

For anyone who watched the speech, what he said was his wife (costume designer) and his father (story writer) of the movie worship Hanuman a lot and prayed to him when their plan went awry. He didnt say anything bad actually, being an atheist, he said why God hasnt solved this issue?? This is a response anyone will say in tough times. He didnt blame anyone but his words implied some hope on God’s assistance.

Those organizations file cases on anything. And its a democracy. As long as its legal, they have the right to ask legal intervention. We know its waste of time but its what democracy is. People get threaten when questioner about Islam too in India.

And it also shows how secular India is. Can anyone openly say something against Allah (PBUH) in a public speech and get unscathed in Pakistan??

What religious sentiments are hurt by making these comments?

If you dislike his comments so much, don't watch the movie and boycott it.

No need to file police complaints or get the government to ban it.

So he is wrong, but the trouble makers are understandable?

India is a secular country, Pakistan is not so why bring it into this discussion? Are you trying to derail this thread as well? :inti

India is now the most extremist country in the world.

This is what happens when you elect an illiterate and extremist chaiwala as the leader. :inti

By your logic, even atheists like Rajamouli and @Champ_Pal could say: If you believe in gods, why do you display it openly or celebrate festivals publicly? And why do politicians use it to influence votes? :rabada2

Wouldn't that hurt the sentiments of atheists as well? :inti

Salman Rashdie written Satanic Verses, that was also his view about Islam, why Muslim around go on banning his book and issued Fatwa to kill him?

A guy in Denmark openly burning Kuran in public places, it is also his own belief... then why Muslims gathered at his burning site, shouting and criticising him?

From where did Salman Rushdie come into discussion? The thread is about Hindu gods and Rajamouli. Don't derail it just because you have run out of counter-arguments. :inti

Someone celebrating their festivals openly do not hurt my sentiments. I enjoy the festive atmosphere and the food. I certainly do not appreciate if they block traffic or try to convert me or impose their views on me.

You are running as usual bcos u don't have any explanation for the same.
Running from what? I simply asked a question, and since you had no answer, you pulled your usual tactic of derailing the thread with unrelated nonsense. If you can't respond, just walk away. No need to ruin yet another thread with your gibberish. :inti

Aside from Kerala, in India where someone can consume beef without facing the threat of violence or being lynched?

It is not a competition, both countries has idiots in majority.
