Yasir Shah speaking to the press at end of Day 1:

"In the previous Test matches I played after my injury, my form wasnt there but I worked on that and thankfully I bowled well today"

"On Day 1, sometimes you get a wicket as there is moisture and the ball breaks when you bowl hard and with variation"

"Overall if you see, our fast-bowling was good and our spin bowling was also good so I believe our bowling was better [as opposed to bad batting by NZ]"

"I feel that it will become easier to bat in the next few days as the moisture will disappear and the ball will not break like it is doing so now"

"Against Australia the ball was 'breaking' until the 5th day so this is not the same type of pitch"

Very interesting pitch this time around, difficult on first day then it 'll be easy then again on 4th 5th day difficult?

The pitch will be hard to bat on when Pakistan go back out :hafeez :azhar

the pitch will flatten out tomorrow. If Pakistan stay at the crease I expect them to get a lead. The best day to bat on this pitch will be the second day and part of the third.

Interesting. I think it will get more difficult to bat on.

2nd & 3rd day should be better for batting, and there will be less moisture to grip the ball, but still some pace for batsmen to play shots. Last 2 days, scoring might be difficult for the slowness of dry surface. Still better wicket than bone dry, dead slow wicket which doesn't offer anything to cricket.

This is exactly what I was thinking. Azhar dead batting shouldn't be an issue but won't make for entertaining cricket.

Probably.

Pitch won't deteriorate till end of day 4/beginning of day 5, so it will be better for batting until then. However, there is also a chance for the pitch to die out like we saw in the last test against Aus and 2015 Dubai test against England (although we won) but that is less likely as we're in November now.
