Babar Azam speaking to the press:

"Early morning the wicket seemed to be OK but after a little bit of rain, the wicket started to help the spinners because of which we lost wickets earlier on"

"There were no real problems with the pitch but we couldn't build partnerships like we should have; Also when wickets fall back to back, then pressure comes on the team"

"Credit must be given to P Jayasuria in the outstanding way he bowled today and he bowled with patience which is the same for batters too in a Test match; I feel that we didn't show patience which is why even our lower order did not do well"

"P Jayasuriya is a consistent bowler and bowls with the same consistency in same areas which is his key reason for success"

"Even when he gets hit for boundary, he still continues to bowl in the right areas and he has a lot of patience"

"When you have chased well in the past, then you have a lot of confidence in you and this is the kind of confidence that we brought into this game and believed that we could chase the target but we need to understand that we have to have patience and also remember that the other side came in after re-planning their strategy, and they bowled with a new plan"

"As a batting unit we have been a little unlucky as we had some soft dismissals and when wickets fall like that, pressure increases on you"

"Day by day we are improving as a team and is performing well and when you do well under different conditions then it increases your confidence; The conditions here were not that easy and we have learnt well although we also made some mistakes which we will discuss; So these are positives for us"

"We have Nauman Ali who is an experienced bowler and is able to bowl with consistency in the same areas and we also have other young spinners in Pakistan; These are new faces and talent that you will see soon"

"We now have to focus on the ODI series vs Netherlands so we have some time to prepare for the T20 games ahead (Asia Cup)"

"There is a lot of cricket being played so you have to switch between formats quickly and change your mindset accordingly"

"Everyone has a different mindset and you should enjoy whatever cricket you play, we as a team are enjoying our cricket and just need to play with good planning"

"T20 World Cup is too far away now so we are going series by series"

"We have Nauman Ali who is an experienced bowler and is able to bowl with consistency in the same areas

He took 2-118 in the 2nd Test.

"As a batting unit we have been a little unlucky as we had some soft dismissals

Not soft, rather pathetic and careless dismissals.

"Day by day we are improving as a team and is performing well

Are they? I don't think the Test side is settled and there are some obvious weak links.

most of these responses shows how clueless Babar is as skipper and things will only get worse under him.

Babar isn't much of a talker and most times his responses are just battered stock phrases, but one thing that is completely right is about patience.
Barring Babar, none of them seemed to have that 'man on a mission' mindset which was actually needed here. They probably thought we just have to be out there, rain will do the rest.

BA doesn't have any vision for the team , he just captaining for the sake of it and the going through it
He need to have a vision / plan for his team just like Virat ,When he took over he openly stated he want india to win in overseas and proceeds with a plan by developing a battery of fast bowlers
In the overseas tour he led in front and took on all the pressure from opposition in way that more than 11 man opposition facing the opposition feel that facing Virat is most important .this reduced the pressure on other players. He not only lead from front but also scored runs
I think Virat legacy is creating a atmosphere in India fir developing fast bowlers ,gone are the days where ganguly will open bowling along with spinner to now Current condition

Statements like "We are improving day by day" only comes from Pakistan captains regularly, irrespective of who is leading them. Pakistan have botched up a great pathway to WTC finals by drawing series in West Indies & Sri Lanka and losing to Australia at home. They surely are not improving. Dropping a Test in WI & SL isn't sign of improvement. Australia losing in SL is expected due to their struggles against spin but Pakistan should not be losing to this SL side.

Well I hope so as its the need of the hour in test format for Pak.

Please note that PCB on this tour did not have open pressers - No searching questions were asked, thus the answers are pretty lame.

Losing nine wickets in one day is always incredibly disappointing. At the very least we should have got a draw in the 2nd Test. Babar is great where as the rest need to have a good look at themselves.

As I said in another thread today they will make these inane comments in press conferences and do the same thing again, only double down on the mistakes, and expect that because of the long gap between test series we'll forget all about the last disaster. They'll start the next series as if none of this ever happened. And give happy statements. What, exactly, did they learn between the Australia and SL series? Anything?

The best way to ensure no accountability. PCB a shambles as usual.

That's what's really upsetting - Pakistan couldn't have asked for a better set of WTC fixtures.

The two Test defeats this year to Australia and Sri Lanka stem primarily from two causes - 1) Lack of quality spinners in Pakistan and 2) Horribly imbalanced team compositions. God bless Mohammad Rizwan but your WK shouldn't be batting at 4.

Although Babar cannot control the former, he's directly responsible for the latter as the most powerful Pakistan captain in decades with Ramiz basically giving him free rein.

Like a poster said hes showing no vision Theres no actual plan where he wants the team to be
Does he want the test team to be the best in the world? That should be the ultimate aim shouldnt it

Series like these and Aus at home are ones pakistan should be winning but here we have the captain saying hes happy with the way the tour went but in reality sri lanka shouldve won 2-0 Pakistan got lucky in the 1st test and wont chase scores like that very often

He just doesnt seem to be a strong leader who can push the players out of their comfort or make strong decisions These performances arent good enough and he needs to start saying it Or is living in an alternate reality where hes happy with mediocrity

Pakistani tail was slogging during the final innings of 2nd Test. There were possibilities of bad light and rain. So, that slogging didn't make any sense.

Pakistan lost 9 wickets in less than 2 sessions.

The lower order isn't doing much other then hit out. They showed no interest in hanging around in the second innings at all.

.

Continuously ever since Wasim taken over as Selector, the team tail starts from no.4 due to his love for bits and pieces..

Shan Masood who came back from an excellent county season, wasnt given a chance even when Azhar ali was dropped is baffling..

Fawad is done , his technique is not reliable anymore.. Had a late surge in Tests with a 100 in NZL but in the last two series against Aus was shown he is not with pace , and in this test match his forte with spin also of no use, time to be dropped forever

Saud Shakeel been selected for so many series now , not given proper chance + he doesnt look too promising like Shafique with the limted chances he got , and now it becomes a question how long this can continue + if discarded becomes he is not given proper run

This. Would the tail had batted that way if Imran, Javed, Dhoni, Ponting, Steve Waugh or Kholi was captain? That shows a lack of respect for Babar as he is too soft with the team. Pakistan had to bat a couple of more hours to try to save the game but the tail didn't even try.

I think just the pass the captaincy to Rizwan now as he is captaincy material & will improve his test batting with the added responsibility.

Babar will continue to score runs even if he is not captain as he is one of the best batsman in the world now.

Babar is still Pakistan‘s best batter and kaptaan currently
