"I have been given permission by Sarfaraz to talk to the youngsters on the field" : Mohammad Hafeez

Mohammad Hafeez speaking after winning the Man of the Match award in the first T20I against NZ:

"First of all I am happy that I helped in Pakistan's win today and my contribution as an allrounder was a good one"

"This was missing from before so I am very happy to do that job for Pakistan"

"There are a lot of problems [with new action] as all your momentum and body muscles have to be used in a different way"

"I am very happy and want to thank everyone who helped me through this"

"Even now, I do a lot of analysis about my action"

"What I am doing is trying to do is to make sure whatever situation I get, I help my team gain the momentum"

"This way we can get to a par score, although today it seems that we were 10-15 runs short but our bowlers did well to restrict the opposition and that is more important"

"All the people I have shared the dressing room with have always wanted to win the match for Pakistan"

"This team is young, they have energy and they love to take the pressure and handle it amongst themselves"

"They dont run away from pressure, they want pressure on themselves and want to perform in such conditions"

"I think the team still needs to improve and the more close encounters these guys win, the more confidence they will gain to play for Pakistan and win games too"

"I have always wanted to play for Pakistan and contribute as much as I can"

"In this comeback for Pakistan, my goal is to play each game as it was my last game for Pakistan"

"and to try and perform as best as I can in any kind of situation"

"I am happy that all this is working for the Pakistan team"

"We have a young team and the idea is to give them a message of conviction"

"Whenever, I am standing next to a youngster, I always tell him that do what your heart tells you do to"

"I have been given permission by Sarfaraz to talk to the youngsters on the field"

"For example, when I was talking to Shaheen Shah Afridi, I was saying to him, do what your heart is saying [ do what you are convinced is the right thing to do]"

"The idea is to share experience and the all the guys are responding well"

"NZ are a great side and they always bring something new to you"

"New Zealand took some excellent catches"

"We are on a winning streak and that will help us as that kind of momentum is useful"

"It will be a tough series for us as we need to work very hard to hit all the areas to win against New Zealand"

"When I was batting, my plan alongside Asif Ali was that we would get 160+ today"

"As 160+ looked like par for the pitch today"

"But with contributions towards the end we got to near-to-par score and then the credit goes to the fast-bowlers in the way they bowled so well, Hasan Ali and Shaheen Shah bowled well and Faheem also started well"

"This pitch was different and the ball did not grip that much for spinners but when we go to Dubai, there will definitely be more help there [for spinners"

"As a team and a bowling unit our confidence is very high"

"I am really happy that my all round performance has helped Pakistan"

Brilliant read, Hafeez and Malik will be crucial for the world cup next year. Their batting ability but most importantly experience could be the key for us.

That's a facet he's actually blessed in. He's got a sound mind and he's been a calming influence. Hafeez guiding Hasan and Shaheen from long off is really good for their development and if that's the only reason he's in the team, I would not mind. They need to learn the batsman's thought process, game situation, method of operation and then the freedom to make their own choice. They won't find a better teacher than The Professor in that regard.

He shouldn't need Sarfraz permission to help. His performances in these meangliness bilaterals will haunt us long term as Hafeez is well past his best.

I think there is a PCB policy that only captain can decide such things out on the field. Read it somewhere a few years ago. That’s why you never see Malik run up to the bowlers and talk to them, he is the most experienced guy out there.

Sangakarra and Jaywardene used to help Mathews out in the field so this isn't a big issue

Of course when you have a brain like Hafeez in the team it's a crime not to use it! :genius

How else would the youngsta beauties get their cricketing PHD's if they don't get lectures from The Professor :moha

I’d be honest. Hafeez is actually a calming figure. I still think he was a good captain during the 2012 T20 World Cup.

Happy he asked and didn’t assume he has the right to guide players.

Seems as if the team culture and aura is positive and I hope nothing external destroys it.

Nothing wrong with it but I don't like this senior/junior culture which is probably present only in Pakistan cricket. On a couple of occasions Hafeez called for a run and was sent back quite rightly by Asif. After that Hafeez would have a go at the youngster if there was a definite run and how on earth could he say no to him. Asif despite being not at fault had to nod and kind of apologize

So many "Pakistan"s in his responses. Is he trying to prove he is very committed to national cricket?

Although, I haven't been his biggest supporter, but I have to admit there has been a conscious change from Hafeez to change his game a bit. He is batting assertively and trying to be proactive, something we never saw from Hafeez before. He used to start slowly and get into his own after a long time. These days he's been trying to be more positive and showing a lot more intent to score runs.
Plus his attitude has been evidently improved as witnessed by him granting permission to fans to take selfies and stuff. I think he has been getting PR lessons something Shoaib Malik probably did after his marriage and before his 2015 comeback.

Don't believe Hafeez ever had an attitude problem. He has always come to the cricket field in shape and has made the most out of his limited abilities. He was a decent on field captain. Unfortunately, inconsistency in his individual performances hurt his captaincy claims.

Out of all Pak batsman, I dare say Hafeez actually had some credibility. Others came with a boom and then disappeared. He is always there. People will way he has connections and hence he is staying but to be honest, he isn't as undeserving as people make him out to be honest.

Think you would be mistaken if you believe he didn't play selfishly at times. 2nd ODI vs NZ 2018, 1st ODI vs WI 2017 are some recent examples.

next captain? obviously some players have stopped listening to Sarfraz

Permission. This made me laugh when he said that.

Almost as if he was granted permission reluctantly.

I have never really liked Hafeez giving over the top advices.

It's excessive in his case, maybe curbed down.

He didnt bowl much vs australia, but was very much needed vs New Zealand.
I pray and hope that he doesnt get banned before the World Cup.
