Azhar Ali speaking at press conference ahead of 2nd Test

"Of course we are disappointed but these things do happen in cricket"

"Its not easy to bat on the last day of a Test match but having said that, it was a chase-able target"

"Usually if a few players score big in 1st innings then such situation dont arise in the 2nd innings"

"This is a big lesson for us; We should have utilized the 1st innings better"

"Target on the last day is never easy whatever it is; we had said at Lunch that we will play positively and not take on too much pressure on ourselves"

"The momentum was with SL on the last day and we could not build a partnership which made the difference"

"SL had the advantage that they won the toss and played 3 spinners"

"Rangana Herath is a great bowler and there is a good reason why he has taken 400 wickets"

"We had a plan to counter Herath just like we did in 2015 but he simply performed better against us this time"

"I play at any batting position according to requirements of the team"

"I am proud of my achievement to have scored 5k runs in my 61st Test and I would like to continue with good performances"

"I hope to help the youngsters in my team and to lead the batting line-up"

Theres a massive burden on him to carry this batting lineup forward with Shafiq not turning up to the party. Going to be a tough ask.

I don't know why but its looking like Shafiq doesn't want to bat.

Too many excuses about the same thing. It was a very chaseable target if they had decided to bat at 4 an over and not trying to block every delivery. Shafiq and Babar are getting close to being dropped. Sami Aslam hasn't learned anything since being dropped. Inzi said he told him to be a bit more positive while he is still playing for himself. Shan did better than my expectations but he is also a passenger. Desperately need a free flowing no 6. Amir Yamin has been doing well in FC, he couldn't be worse than what our batters are doing right now and will be able to provide some overs of seam as well. Asad appears to fail as a role model for newer players with no substance and same old problems. Apparently his friendship with Sarfraz is going to make a so called dressing room leader along with Azhar. Wish Younis was still here for a couple more series.

surely one of Babar or Shafiq needs to be dropped now

Im not sure who though

Babar obviously has a long term future so it may make more sense to give him a breather and figure out things to get out of this rut

For me whenever Shafiq is dropped it should be permanent drop. So maybe put him in last chance saloon and give rest of the series and if he doesnt get his act straight say 'Goodbye and Good luck! We wish you well and will remember you with good words!'

Aamir Yamin is not an international class batsman. He is as good as Shadab probably at best.

To put your hopes on him is a folly. Also he is a pop gun bowler

Shouldn't disregard him even before he has even played a Test. We need to move away from the 4 bowlers strategy now. It's too much of a gamble. Whether you get a no 6 as a spinning allrounder or a seaming allrounder, doesn't matter. At the moment, I would even back Hafeez to return. Things are looking that grim right now.
