"I pray that Trump bans Pakistani visas so that we can focus on fixing our country" : Imran Khan

Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Sunday, while condemning the plight of Muslims prevented from entering the United States (US) under US President Donald Trump's immigration ban, expressed hope that the ban is extended to Pakistanis.

"I want to tell all Pakistanis today, I pray that Trump bans Pakistani visas so that we can focus on fixing our country," Khan told a rally in Sahiwal.

Trump's sweeping executive order, signed Friday, suspends the arrival of refugees in the US for at least 120 days and bars visas for travellers from seven Muslim majority countries ─ including Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen ─ for the next three months.

The PTI chief said most educated Pakistanis want to leave this country because they think they can only acquire gainful employment if they have a "powerful source", and said he believes that things in Pakistan can only improve if people work for progress.

"The day we bring back the merit system back to Pakistan, all our best citizens will return and work for the betterment of this country," Khan said.

"We will have to fix Pakistan and stand on our own two feet. And the day that we decide this is our home and we have to fix it, we won't beg for loans from the US and the International Monetary Fund (IMF)."

Khan said the day there is a government that decides it has to live and die in Pakistan, it will fix this country.

"The biggest issue here," he said, "is the corruption of bigwigs who... become ministers and loot this country, taking the money abroad."

"They may have elected Trump, but we have elected Nawaz Sharif."

Lambasting Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Khan alleged, the PM taken money from Pakistan and spent it abroad. "His businesses are abroad, his children are abroad, but he is the prime minister of Pakistan. He even goes abroad for checkups," he said.

Khan lauded Iran's ***-for-tat move in response to Trump's immigration ban, which restricted US nationals travelling to Iran until the ban was lifted.

"Iran is an independent nation and we need to become like them," Khan asserted.

The PTI chief, directly addressing Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urged the premier not to tamper with Pakistan's water supplies.

Recounting Modi's speech in poll-bound Indian Punjab Friday in which he promised to abrogate the Indus Waters Treaty, Khan said, "If you shut our water, what will our people do?"

"I know that the people in India don't want war. They want peace," Khan said. "The people want both countries to cooperate and end poverty across the subcontinent."

The press has twisted his words a bit and taken it out of context. I listened to the entire speech and Imran's exact words were something like:

"Yahan peenay ko saaf pani nahi, khana nahi hai, school, hospital nahi hain. Ameer aur honar-mand Pakistani yahan se Amerika chalay jatay hain apni zindagi sonwaarne. Mein dua karta hon Trump Pakistani ka bhi visa bund karde takkay hum apna mulk behtar karne ki koshish karien, na ke yahan se bhaag jain"

and whats the difference in the headline?

Pakistan needs to create conditions where the educated elite want to stay rather than rely on Trump blocking the brain drain. Not that it's Khan's fault, the established political parties have been self serving mafias for decades.

Brain drain will happen in all developing countries, but it's always going to be worse in countries where there is restriction and absence of meritocracy.

The cream of our country goes overseas because of better opportunities and better system that doesn't exist in Pakistan. We really need to fix our system and country.

His own sons live in England and are British citizens , why doesnt he first get them back into Pak before preaching others?

Their mother is British and she got the custody of her sons after the divorce their marriage was registered in UK it's not like Imran sent them to study there.

Well tbf Imran himself was also educated in the UK.

So I don't think he is against people studying abroad. More so that once they are educated they should come back to Pakistan to make it better.

Its hard though, there is a lot wrong in Pakistan that people living there have become desensitized to.

When people like me who "ran away" from Pakistan in search for a better life point these things out, we are demonized and made to feel like traitors.

Truly a visionary leader Imran Khan Sahib. Saute to him if only we could all see what we are doing to Pakistan. Oh how I wait for the day he will become PM. InshaAllah yeh waqt anay wala hai .

Agree with that you that's why i said earlier in my post we need to fix the system and country otherwise the cream of our country will continue to go overseas for better opportunities but how are going to fix the system when all smart brains are leaving the country on every available opportunity? (not blaming them everyone deserve a better life and job)

He wasn't educated in the UK, he came here as a university graduate and that probably was connected to his cricketing prowess rather than his intellect.

There's nothing wrong with moving abroad to better your career either. Everyone from every single nation on earth does it. I don't recall anyone demonising you for it.

Well his sons are 20 and 17 yrs age which I believe is beyond the parental custodial age in UK. That means that he can get them in Pakistan and let them work for the betterment of Pak, non??

I think what IK means is that Pakistanis need not despair if the USA bans us as well. There is no need to lose hope at all, I agree with him. I have never loved America neither do I have any ambitions related to that country. Many places Pakistanis can still visit and be respected. At the rate Trump is going no one will be wanting to visit America in the near future. Would never give up my love for Pakistan or Islam to visit America, never!

This is the biggest problem with Imran he never use diplomatic approach like his opponents in politics and he just says whatever comes in his mind without thinking about consequences that resultes in hurting some some powerful people including establishment in past. This single statement if taken outside context can really hurt his party's overseas support and he also need to realize American Pakistanis are one of the biggest donors of Shaukat Khanum. They contribute massively every year to run the hospital.

I can already see our very own liberals on media and social media bashing Imran for this statement but they were silent on Trump ban.

Imran bhai kuch cheazon per khamosh rehna he behter hota he beshak ap dusron ko manfiq he kyun na nazer aao.

Try and read what he said, next try and understand it.

He said Pakistanis leave the country because it is such a dump, if Pakistanis did not have an option of leaving they will stay here and focusing on fixing the country. What is wrong in what he said?

I know the whope context bhai i listened whole speech i am just saying this headline statement if taken without conext this can cause trouble i have seen it happening in past with him opponents using out of context statement in their campaigns against him. He should use a diplomatic approach i know that's munafqat but politics main careful hona perta he shouldn't be giving them enough material to target and use against him in their campaigns.

How much Pakistani economy relies on remittances ? Is it a wise statement in that context ?

What a stupid comment. If Trump bans Pakistani from the USA. Who is stopping them to going to Canada, UK, Dubai?
