Ahmed Shehzad speaking to the press today

"The team has been announced already... I think there's an ongoing tournament with the crunch games remaining. As a youngster, it was a motivating factor, wanting to make a spot in the team so then a person gives extra, he gives his 100% energy and tries to do even more. That would have been good for PSL also because the more a player gives, the better PSL will be and the better the matches will be. So my opinion is that the squad was announced a little early but of course we have to back all the players who have been selected"

"When I came to this tournament (PSL), I was thinking that whatever is in the past is not in my control. My aim is to make a spot for myself with my performances, I know this tournament is very important for me. I will try to make the most of the remaining chances. Pakistan Cup is also coming up and my eyes are on that also. I will give my 100% during any cricket I get the chance to play"

"My wish is to do something for Pakistan in the World Cup which is always remembered. At the end of the day, that's why we play cricket. Fine, there's money involved and there's a lot of other things, positive and negative but at the end of the day, I want to do something for my people and my country. I want to build love in people's hearts for me. The World Cup is a very big opportunity for anyone, not only me. If you do well in the World Cup, it's always remembered so I am hopeful"

"I had a meeting with Moin bhai when I was out of the team and I focused on remaining positive. He has always been very supportive. I have had great sessions with Viv Richards. It was mainly about the mental aspect, about how to be strong"

"At the end of the day, there's a lot of people who are ready to give advice but it depends on whether you're ready to listen or not. I took their advice positively and tried to implement it and so far it's working. I am unhappy to have lost the match, also sad about getting out on 99, who doesn't want to make a century? Until the last over, we had the match in our hands"

"On the first ball Anwar hit a ball to the deep, we could have taken 2 but I didn't take it because I was the senior member playing, I wanted to take strike and finish it because the ball was reversing and Shinwari is a good bowler. I was trying to take more of the strike, I got that message from the dugout as well while Bravo was batting. That was the right thing because I had played the full overs. In the last over, I backed myself but unfortunately I got out. We still had key batsmen remaining but it's a part of the game. We were really disappointed. It was a good match but we were very hurt because we thought we gave it away at the end"

"Mickey Arthur is a seasoned campaigner, he should know that a good batsman comes out of 4-day cricket and consistent performances in ODI cricket. Putting a player in the team after performances in one season is very sudden, it's also unfair on the player himself and it's unfair on the player who has been performing consistently in domestic cricket. We should back players who are performing consistently in domestic cricket and we should strengthen the domestic criteria so that we know that after a certain number of years he has the ability to become a Javed Miandad, a Wasim Akram, a Shahid Afridi, a Younis Khan, a Saqlain Mushtaq, a Shoaib Akhtar. This happens when you have a competitive FC structure. We can see that the naya PCB is doing their bit and we should support it and trust it. We have been using the same methods for a long time. We have been demanding change and now that it's coming, we should own it and support it. It's not about personal milestones and goals, it's about the country, the bigger picture. We should support whatever PCB decides and we need to give it some time as well. Many people will be sitting ready to criticise but we should trust PCB"

"I still believe PSL is a big platform for everybody and so far I'm doing well but I still don't think this should be the criteria for selection for the Pakistan team. If we want big players who can be legendary and who can improve our Test team and the ranking, then we should put more emphasis on 4 day cricket and players who are performing in that. I am not a fan of short term things. Of course if you've found a good fast bowler or an exceptional spinner then it's a different story but otherwise players should play 60-70 matches. That teaches them how to handle pressure. We should back the team that has been selected and wait for our turns"

Like you did at the WT20 in 2009 or at the CT 2017. Only after you got benched PAK started winning.

Hope he never gets picked again.

Yes you can do the same as i would do, watch the World Cup at home and cheer the team up!

the best thing selfie can do is make Dua for Pakistan team while watching the WC - his efforts will be much appreciated by the entire nation

Our openers and number 3 slots in the batting lineup is fixed, we'll be seeing Fakhar, Imam and Babar batting for us in the world cup so I don't see anyone else taking their spots unless someone gets injured.

Pakistani fans and specially Shehzad lovers should never forget that it was Shehzad who was dropped after the first match and Fakhar debuted that lead to Pakistan winning the CT.

he failed in the 2011 & 2015 World Cups and the Champions Trophy in 2017...

he can be on standby

After Fakhar and Imam, Shan is stand by...so no chance I'm afraid.

He did play, as someone pointed out, in 2009 T20 and 2017 CT.

Both times he was dropped after first game...so may be take him as a mascot?

Play in the first game, you know what to do after that.

Keep him out. Fakhar and Imam as openers and hopefully Shan cements his place as backup opener.

The Pakistani Gautam Gambhir minus the hatred for India and the performances.

Ahmed, the best thing you can do for us this World Cup is just sit in front of your TV and support us.

is this the interview for which Shoaib A told him to keep his mouth shut and let the bat talk.... then i agree...

Ahmed bhai at this point the best thing you can do for Pakistan is pray for our success

Shehzad isn't half the batsmen Gambhir was. He is equally stupid thou
Gauti maybe stupid as a patriot, but he was a great tactician for KKR for years, so no comparison there as well.

As a cricketer, Shehzad can only dream to be as good as Gambhir.

And the funny thing is he STILL considers himself to be a youngster.

Good God! You’ve been an international for over a decade now

That explains why he shaved his beared off,

Javed Miandad, a Wasim Akram, a Shahid Afridi, a Younis Khan, a Saqlain Mushtaq, a Shoaib Akhtar.

Didi he forget to mention Inzi Misbah Waqar ,but remembered Afridi
Takes a dig at Mickey

Me me me
At least he didn't remind everyone of his past international 100s

Seems to celebrate with a lot of enthusiasm....

Shehzad we will be indebted for life if you just hang up your boots.

Best thing he can do is quit international Cricket. He is another of our long list of failed but so called talented batsmen.

In current firm , he looks like the best opener in Pakistan , and the best fielder .

Spoke really well today.

Admitted I havent done justice to my talent, and want to do something for my country.

To me looks like a much more mature person.

He looks really really thin. Perhaps he has gone really over board with the fitness work. Something Umar Akmal should take note off

Knowing his recent past with regard to doping, one must question if there any dubious measures that Shezhad is undertaking to lose weight.

Agree, was surprised to see such significant change in attitude. He sounded pretty mature and grounded and was just yearning to do well for Pakistan.
Abdullah719 bhai if you could find the video, please post it on a thread for the PPers.

If he really performs well in the Pakistan cup here compared to Shan Masood then he might have an outside chance getting selected for the CWC as a backup opener

Last World Cup he was in I recall he was the official team (selfie) photographer and chief bag carrier for Chris Gayle as well as acting as Shahid Afridi's permanent shadow!!!

He's behind Abid Ali as well in the pecking order. So pretty tough if you ask me.

1 hundred doesn’t set everything right. He needs to perform consistently, had he got some runs in his 2nd match he would definitely be in the mix of probables to the CWC. Now he has this tournament to compete with other openers.

Plus Abid Ali has failed the fitness test and mickey arthur is adamant about it.

We are your people, the best thing you can do for us is to keep playing domestic cricket only, that’s about it, thank you.

Yeh good idea. The best thing you can do is to stay away from the playing Xl.

Miles better than Imam and should be Pakistan's number 3 with Babar as opener.

This is literally pyjama cricket.

No kidding but teams have shauqiya players

And I've seen many matches live at this 'ground'.... Literally a forward defense goes one bounce four.

It boggles the mind that somebody with those numbers played 100+ internationals for Pakistan

Imam ul Haq will get there eventually as well average of 35 with even worse SR than Shehzad against top 5 sides

Not sure if bringing statistics is the best way to defend nephew. He averages 36 at 71 SR against SENA-I.

If it really comes down to it, I see the only difference between Shezzy & Imam is that Imam wears a pair of glasses.........

he still has 5 centuries already in 55 few matches than Shehzad who has only 6 but get your point

3 of those against Zimbabwe B team on dead wickets.

I'd hate to have either, but if given a choice between these two, I'd select Shehzad for his ability to accelerate once he crosses 50.

Imam literally goes snail pace throughout his innings

Lol Syed1 please don’t compare him to Shezzy now

Abdullah719

One swallow does not make a summer.

His next best SR across all innings against top 8 teams has been 87.

Even yesterday, he struggled until ball showed signs of swing (3-4 overs), edging repeatedly. Swing elapsed thereupon, and lightening outfield and short boundaries meant scoring at around 110 SR was not that big of task.

And don't forget, he was still the main reason why we lost the T20I and 2nd ODI on similar belters, having strike rate in 70s each time

Shehzad:

Imam:

It's taken just 16 matches for Imam to blow away Shehzad against big teams.

If people complain about Imam not being as good as Bairstow in ODIs, they should try and be a little realistic with their expectations. I don't think Pakistan legends like Miandad would have any chance of making it into this England side. From our entire history as a cricketing nation, maybe one or two of our batsmen (perhaps Saeed Anwar and Zaheer Abbas) would make it into this England side.

So why blame Imam for not being as explosive as their best players when he is easily one of the best in our country? The fact is that England's batting lineup is by far the strongest and most destructive in the history of ODI cricket.

Absolutely. He should score 400 at SR of 400.He is the reason why we will lose in future also.
