"I want to make up for lost time" : Haris Sohail

Overrated here . Player is class when he can absorb pressure not when he strikes beautifuly

A rich man’s Umar Amin. He does for 50-60 balls what Amin did for 15-20.

Play delightful shots and before going back to the hut. There is nothing one can do if you have a jelly spine.

You cannot become a top batsman if you are mentally weak. For all the talent Haris Sohail has, his 30-40s in Odis and soft dismissals in tests indicate he will remain a mediocre batsman.

Has terrific first class average, scored 4-5 centuries in one domestic season. Never looks troubled when batting but can’t score big or when needed at intl. level. If this is not lack of mental strength like Umar Amin, not sure what it is.

The guy is average. So called ‘future of Pak batting’ LOL LOL

Haris Sohail, Umar Amin, Saud Shakeel same types goes missing when the going gets tough

Another chance to go all the way and score big for Pakistan

Haris Sohail's batting has been exposed

For so called new batting hope he has been an utter disaster.

More often then not throws it away with soft dismissals. He is poor under pressure as shown in previous test.Seldom converts his starts and when he bats he ends up sucking any momentum out of the innings as he has done here.

He is almost 30 has a poor fitness record and I believe he should be the first to be binned after Hafeez

I swear this guy is ugly to watch. Most unelegant batsman going.

Good player who’s starting to get some consistent runs, however needs to start hitting some centuries now

And looks better than Hafeez, Shafiq, Sarfaraz and Imam put together.

And a plethora don't even get to the point to throw it away. They're just useless. He's played 8 tests. So much patience for others and yet he's 30 so it's over? Azhar was made ODI captain after hitting his 30s and having a break for what 5 years?

30 is younger than it used to be. Harris if he's a good player could be one for 2 WCs if he keeps himself fit and plays well.

I rate him and love watching him bat. But hitting 81 off 240 balls isn't going make up for lost time I'm afraid
:ik2

It’s not an odi bro, plenty of time left in the test, maybe yes he should have made more scoring opportunities but it’s not terrible what he’s done, he just needs to go big here and ensure we have a total of 350 plus

He doesn't want to become like Azhar averaging over 40 with a strike rate of 40 those innings have a negative impact on the results mostly due to time wasted and lack of runs scored.

Haris is doing fine and he is doing his role in the team very well.

Test average now 42.68 and 2 Test hundreds out of his last 6 innings.

Keep it going!

What a bazatee, a guy who was averaging in his 20’s prior to the series looks more fluent than this guy. He’s 60 runs behind where he should be.

Another prescient prediction.

While I don't mind you following me around in every thread, you should perhaps at least have the courtesy to take my comments in context which you not always do. For example, your fixation with the "Abbas is unlikely to run through lineups" whilst ignoring the various posts where I have defended him from criticism since he had barely put in a bad performance.

Similarly, you have ignored the years of posts of me insisting that Haris is one of the best batsmen in the country who has been robbed off perhaps a 20 ton Test career because of injuries and negligence. However, and there is always a however, there are considerable issues with his game that should not be ignored.

He has a documented history of throwing his wicket away cheaply after looking good almost every time. The number of times he has been dismissed for 30s and 40s in ODIs, after having all the time in the world to score big should ring a bell. Similarly, hiss soft dismissals in Test cricket are also concerned.

This innings was not great, but it was a very important one in the context of his career. He showed temperament and the ability to bat long periods of time, and that is what everyone wants to see from a batsman who is perceived to be one of the best in the country.

I understand that you may feel aggrieved, if I don't take your other commentary into consideration, but do consider that I may not in fact have read it, perchance because I don't quite follow you as assiduously as i no doubt should. But you would have to concede that if it is regrettable when context of a post is overlooked, it is even more so when the post itself is. All I did was to reflect on the regularity with which you make withering assessments of players only for those assessments to be proven wrong, in the case of abbas, and of course yasir. haris i know you have supported from the beginning, but the readiness with which you launched into him now made that early position all the more poignant. the fact hat you also defend players who you have denigrated before is of course admirable, but my point is not about you harboring any ill will as such. It is about your readiness to make massively wrong predictions without ever developing a sense of humility, a knowing that there are some things you cannot yet know.

Haris has the spine of a jelly and I will stick to it for as long as I see contrary evidence, and I am afraid time is running out for him to do so.

A good player for our standards who should have had a longer career, but ultimately he suffers from the same mental demons as the others, but since he has more ability, he tends to capitalise more often when the sun is shining. If people expect him to become a pressure player, I doubt they will live to see their expectations turn into reality.

Very average batsman. Severely overrated. Where are he’s fans now? Next best thing in Pak cricket my foot.

He can’t play under pressure that has been seen
Massively over rated. . Some called him Lara
Can we try Saad Ali please . Harris Sohail bating at number 4 in this line up will never win us games

You are special and a class above others when in a difficult FC season there is a daylight between your Average & Tons per match ratio compared to your peers including Younis Khan, Misbah ul Haq, Azhar Ali, Fawad Alam, Umar Amin, Sohaib Maqsood, Abid Ali etc etc.

This was 2012.

Pakistan has suffered immensely due to Haris Sohail being injury prone. He has been one exceptional talent but fitness has ruined him uptil now.

Haris won Pakistan the warm up match with a fluent One day esque knock of 73* (87) and got unfit when we needed him the most.

Saj how serious is his current knee issue ? Is it the old knee issue which has flared up ? (I hope not) Or it's a new injury ? Will he be taking any part in the series ?

Made some enquiries, he is hoping to be fit for the 2nd Test match against South Africa.

Thank you for the information. I think he will do good in South Africa, he can replace Shafiq/Zaman

He should carry on his good form with babar and take pakistan to semis. Good luck to him. Such a good naturally talented batsman he is. He lost his peak years of about 6 7 years since his debut way back in 2013 due to many reasons like fitness and other team selections like umer amin was preferred over him . Hopefully he will cover those 6 7 years and play for pakistan for next 6 7 years atleast IN SHAA ALLAH and become a backbone of pakistan batting along with babar. Both are fine talents among the best in our country in terms of batting.

Goodness me some proper humble pie on this thread is needed.
You guys deserve hafeez, Malik's, haqsood and hakmal, odi shafiqs as your mainstays

Mediocre batsman. They are all taking us granted. We have become laughing stock.

Good player, but I’m afraid another mental midget.

Cannot take these posters seriously anymore. terrible readers of the game and terrible knowledge of the game it seems

Mamoon 2 match winning knocks by a mental midget not bad. I wonder what he would have been if he wasn't a mental midget.

considering the fact that Mamoon is the staunch Malik defender, it seems that he was always Malik's biggest threat. now we know

My fears were misplaced. As I say, I am wrong more times than I am right, but I don’t take half measures to please the crowd.

Has been selected for the T20Is too. He is not a T20 player.

I reckon Haris can be a good number 3 in T20Is, he played a good knock against ENgland in the one iff t20i and against SA in the world cup. He can hit spin well and can also score well of pace and hit the gaps. I would prefer him over Asif Ali. Even though Asif is supposed to be a power hitter, he's played quite slow at number 3. Haris will also bring consistency.

When did he play vs England?

I don't know for how long he can keep a place in the team just because he is 'talented'. Doesn't seem focused.

He has the numbers against SENA in limited overs. And he has often exhibited the focus too. But there has been a fair bit of pressure on him to play quicker in limited overs. I don't know if that is messing up with this thought process in all formats but maybe he should be given a role only for ODIs and tests.

Poor dismissals so far on the tour of Australia. Should be doing better than what he has in Australia.

Aussies are going to ruthlessly pepper him with short pitched stuff.

The innings against SA in the WC was his peak. Don't think he'll reach those heights again. Performs in dead rubbers like Shafiq.

Haris is breaking my heart right now but I have hopes for Asad at the Gabba. He has that 137 there and is looking in good touch right now.

Haris Sohail being picked in T 20 has damaged his confidence and at the moment should not be anywhere near the playing XI. I guess team should try Abid Ali and Shan as opener with Azhar dropping to 3 in the next practice game.

Haris has always had fitness issues and with his knee issues he should be much slimmer than he is now.

He does not look to be fully able to run well between the wickets either, now in Australia he has been peppered with short stuff and struggled big time and does not look comfortable at all.

Liability, he's unfit, mediocre fielder, very vulnerable batmen in these conditions.......

Not many positives to be part of the playing 11 in the first test.
