Imran Khan speaking on TV:

“When I used to play cricket, teams had their own umpires at home. Mostly, teams would blame umpires when they would lose away. I was the first captain in the history of cricket to advocate for neutral umpires. I was the first captain who played in his own country against the world’s strongest team WI with neutral umpires.

“When we used to play against India, no one would beat the either away because when they would be losing, their umpires would save them, and many times our umpires also used to help us. Yet, I was the first captain to defeat India in India with Indian umpires.

“When India came to Pakistan, we played them with neutral umpires. And now because of us, world cricket has neutral umpires . Whoever loses accepts his loss. Today I promise my country that my govt. will be the first in Pakistan to have elections that we will all accept.”

Credit where it's due, Imran pushed for neutral umpires despite many being against it.

I recall there were 2 English umpires for that series against West Indies and it was so refreshing to see.

Why Imran gives so many statements on India?

Indian captains used to be scared going out for toss with me. I was the first captain to beat India in India.

Lots of 'I', 'me', 'mere samay me' on his statements.

Still remember 2016 T20 WC match in Eden Gardens when Bengal CM was felicitating India and Pak ex players before the start of the match. Sachin, Waqar, Wasim everyone made sporting speech of gratitude and how they want to see the best team win. Imran was like, in my time how we used to beat India...I want the same result today :))

I mean we get it he was a great cricketer but looks like he want to validate it every now and then.

India india india. Its good to know we are such a benchmark. Even when we were a really weak team compared to Pakistan

Lol he was talking with respect to having 'neutral umpires' in elections and introducing election reforms so that the loser doesn't always cry dhandli dhandli. That is where the topic of umpires came up.

I think there was a stigma of Pakistan ball tampering and Pakistani umpiring that put a lot of questions on Imran’s team which at that point was building nicely with some fantastic match winners. Imran wanted to prove the world that Pakistan can destroy teams anywhere without any external help. I am not saying he was arrogant but the right word is confidence.

Funny thing is thanks to neutral umpiring an Indian team with a 16 year old Sachin and some over the hill batsmen and a declining Kapil with some trundlers managed to draw a series with Pakistan on some spicy tracks with a bowling line up of Imran, 2 W’s, Aquib and Qadir.

Would have won a odi too if not for crowd rioting from what I heard.

Memories of Prabhakar, he had Pakistan 3 down when the crowd rioted.

Only player in history to open both batting and bowling I think.

There is a limit to narcissism.
Nope.

It would be good if you get off of the high horse. He is a politician; the chairman and face of his party who has to counter the narrative of his adversaries. If he doesnt speak about his strengths, the opposition's narrative will prevail.

And there is no point in reading quotes without understanding their context. As a poster above mentioned, this was in response to allegations of rigging that the opposition cry hoarse about; that too without any basis.

Hahha ignore them.

Nothing wrong with stating one’s achievements from time to time, especially if he’s just using them to make a point like he is here. If anything, given the breadth of his achievements in cricket, it’s surprising he doesn’t talk about them more often.

By judging from the burn from some of the replies in this post, IK is saying what he's supposed to! Carry on Khan saab! :P

He is talking about moments he is proud of in his career. Sorry if it upset some Indian fans. :))

Obviously regardless of the era India would have and will always be considered a rival to measure from, despite most contests between India and Pak being anything but in Imran's time.

He is absolutely right, he is the one to make neutral umpires a reality.

Give me a break, why are we still talking about something that happened 40 years ago?

It's just nauseating to hear one person talk about their past achievements... it's like every high school kid who reminisces about his time 'when I was in high school I did this, I did that, I was larger than life, I'm so special omg....'

Imran still is Achilles hill for many Indians...something never change.....I don't know how most will react if tomorrow Miandad says...I have hit that last ball 6xer to win the match

Achilles hill? You cant be more wrong. Most Indians on this forum are of avg age of 25-30 and have not even seen Imran/Javed play. We still have that memory of Bhajji hitting last ball six off Amir though ;-)

We all have memories , some have few and some have more , some from the distant past and some from the more recent past.

Imran remembers the great moments of his career and beating India in India with Indian umpires is no small achievement.

Talking of the younger generation of fans, I’m sure fans from both countries will have fond memories of the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy final. 😉

What a cameo knock by Hafeez.

Looks like khan sb k knows the psyche of the people across the border. Welldone Khan sb.

Imran knows the language of cricket and always answers citing his past achievements. Also the fact that he doesn't have as many political achievements helps.

Or Lala hitting 4 or 5 sixes to Bhajji.....that too in tests...:sa:sa..... I know there was a time Bhajji was seeing someone in nightnares:yk3

Oh is it.......honey there is a thing called Youtube...

Khan sahab has clearly knows how to mentally rattle the opposition

I am pretty sure Hafeez has done that as well.

Hafeez is a spinner, right? Maybe he did a rare appearance as a opening bowler.

Prabhakar was Kapil Dev's opening bowling partner for a while.

The swagger, the charm and just the aura. Imran was Optimus Prime of the Great Pakistani Cricketing team of the 80s and early 90s.

The difference is so stark when you compare with today's team. Basically Men vs Boys.

Since, Imran's departure from Pakistan Cricket, it was only downfall. Taking more than 350 wickets in tests and scoring more than 3800 runs with some 37 average is not everyone's cup of tea.
